Personal:

When I was young, I ran local fun runs with my family, but nothing more. I watched my dad, mom, and 2 older brothers begin running and decided to try it out. During the spring of 6th grade, I ran 3 miles a couple times a week with my dad and have loved running ever since. I ran local 5ks and even a half marathon. In 7th grade I watched Conner, my older brother, run cross country and decided that I wanted to try it.

High School: Really enjoyed it all so much, grateful for all of the friendships I made while doing it. There were ups and downs, but it was a wonderful experience!

I enjoy running, playing piano, painting, skiing, and hiking. Life is totally worth living. Running my favorite meditation. I ran for Sky View High School. I served a mission in the Adriatic North Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Not yet sure what my plans are with running these next few month, but I am looking forward to an exciting future!

I was too lazy to actually run in the morning, so I went in the middle of the afternoon when it is blistering hot.  I felt amazing my first mile, actually too amazing. 1) 6:05 which is way too fast. My second mile I didn't feel the heat until halfway where I pretty much died.  I kept going though and it was actually pretty decent. 2) 7:23  I took a minute and a half break because I went over to the side a dry-heaved a bit (let me tell you, it was hot!).  Then, I kept going.  I tried for a sub-seven which ended up being a 7:05.  I was so tired and thirsty that I went to the graveyard and took a drink from the pump thing (which I don't know if the water was clean, but I was SO thirsty).  That break was about a minute and a half.  Then I cooled down home because I was too tired (which I regret) to keep going.  That mile was over 11 minutes.  The first three miles (including the break) took 22:04 minutes which was actually okay in the heat.  I was happy to be done, but it was one of those runs that I regretted cutting short.

We did golf-course.  Conner talked to me about pushing the pace at practice because that's what makes you get better, and last year the pace was always pushed, so I did. I tried pushing it up the hill.  Karlee, Lauren, and I stuck together along 10th east.  When we hit the trail, we slowed down a bit and a lot of the girls caught back up.  It was a ton of fun and felt good to actually go a little faster on an easy day.

I kinda-sorta-not really tapered for the Freedom Run because I had to get 6 miles in.  I wanted to get over with it, though, so I tried to keep them under an 8 minute pace.   I finished a little before 48 minutes.  On my last mile, though my knee popped really weird and hurt the last quarter mile (it's okay). It was fun and I was really pumped for the Freedom Run.

I woke up earlier than I should have, but I did get time to eat half of a bagel which was really good.  Karlee and I warmed up half a mile.  I was really excited, and not exactly in that race mode which was really wierd, though.  I did have a goal which was sub-7 average. When everybody wandered towards the starting line, I quickly did some leg swings and we walked up there.  When we started I didn't sprint as fast as I could, but I think that was a good thing.  Here are my mile splits: 1) 7:04, 2) 6:40, 3) 6:54, 4) 6:45, 5) 6:43, 6) 6:50, 7) 7:00, 8) 7:14, 9) 6:57, 9.3) 2:00.  My first mile I just stuck with Karlee.  There was a group of high-school girls near us and I think they were from Mountain Crest.  I felt amazing.   I was actually talking the first mile, too.  When we got to the first mile mark, I actually sped up.  I could see Megan and Holly Haguewood and was hoping that I could catch up to them.  Slowly, I kept passing people.  I felt amazing the first three and had caught up to Megan.  I talked to her for a minute, then kept going.  I found this set way to keep my pace by knowing I'd be around 3:30 minutes at the marathon marks and around 6:00 minutes at the half marathon marks.  That kept my pace pretty even until mile 7 where you go up that steep hill.  I started up it a little too fast, but nobody passed me going up it.  When I got to the top I wanted to give up, but I didn't.  I could still see Holly, but I just didn't want to speed up.  It felt too hard.  I kept checking my watch and doing the math to figure out the slowest miles I could hit and still get a sub-7.  I kept going, but wasn't able to go much faster.  The last mile, I just wanted to be done.  When I hit the 9 mile mark, though, I knew someone was behind me so right when I clicked my watch, I turned to see who is was and sprinted away.  My finish felt fast, but I didn't feel like I was moving fast.  I was happy to be done, though. My time really shocked me.  It was a nine minute PR from last year.  I wonder if the time was off, because my watch or the clock said 1:04, but I got a 1:03.  It was a great race to be sore afterwards.

I was again too lazy to go in the morning and very sore.  I waited until it was early in the evening and went 4 miles.  I knew I had to go 10 total, but I didn't want to.  I went home and had some dinner, then went three more miles.  It started to get dark and I really didn't want to go any further, so I said that was good enough.

For practice we went up Smithfield Canyon for 35 minutes.  I felt like we were going at a nice pace at first, but we kept slowing down.  Around 2 miles I kind of sped up and went ahead of the pack to push the pace, but only Lauren followed.  We went up to the nine mile mark from my house which was only probably 8.5 miles or more from SV.  We went at a slower pace down, but it felt nice and easy.  It was about 8:30 minute miles.  When we got back we did a bunch of striders, so I added those into my miles making them total 9.  It was really fun.

I didn't really want to go fast, but I did want to get some tempo in, so I tried to get 5 miles at 7 minute average.  It didn't work out as I had planned. My first 4 miles times were: 1) 7:01 2) 7:05 3) 7:16 4) 7:04.  I really wanted to give up, but for some reason I didn't stop. The fourth mile was all downhill, so I'd have to go uphill to get back and I thought "Why not try going uphill?" That wasn't my favorite idea.  The hill wasn't super fast (about .3 miles in 2:44). When I got to the top I took a 45 second break because I was dying.  The last .7 was around 5:03 which made that mile 7:47.  Tge total time (including the break) was 37 minutes which is decent.  My cool down mile was barely under 10 minutes because I didn't want to go very far, but it was a good run.  I hopefully can get 5 miles under 7 minutes for tempo one day.

BEAST!!! Yeah, that's what we did at practice.  We had a mile warm up.  The hill is about 300 meters and not a fun one.  My times were: 1) 1:09 (fast!) 2) 1:16 3) 1:17 4) 1:20 5) 1:19 6) 1:22 (slow!)  7) 1:17 8) 1:17.  Our recoveries went from 2 and a half minutes to almost 4.  The two that were with me the entire time were Katelyn and Lauren.  Our first one we did with all the fast people (boys).  Then, we actually went our own pace.  After the fourth or fifth we went in some sprinklers which felt amazing.  I forgot until half way to start out slow and speed up which is why I died every time.  Us and MaraLee were the only girls to do 8 total and we finished last, but that's okay! :) We went back to SV super slow because we were so dead.  It was worth it and I hope I can do it again this summer because hills suck. When we got back to SV we did some striders (which sucked) and stretched (which felt good).

I was so tired from yesterday so I planned on doing 6 miles around 8 minute pace.  I was so dead it took me 48 minutes to do 5 miles.  It felt good to go slow and easy, though.  I was happy I didn't have to do anything exhausting.

At practice we ran 2 miles (slow).  I wanted to catch up with the lead girls because I started out slow, but there wasn't much distance to catch up.  After that we played Ultimate Frisbee which was fun.

Afterwards, I ran 4 more slow miles.  My last bit, I was sprinting really hard which felt good.  At the end I was going race pace because I wanted to go fast.

Best tempo run this summer! I felt really good this morning, but I knew I had to do 9 miles.  I decided I'd do 3 tempo and see how I'd feel.  1) 6:37 2) 6:37 3) 6:39 which added up to 19:55.  The weird thing was that I kept myself going.  I knew I could do it and my miles were 5 seconds slower than they needed to be.  After a 5 minute break I did 2 more fast miles (trying to get 7 minutes)  4) 7:00 5) 7:12  For a cool down I did an 11 minute mile becaus I was exhausted!  Then I did 3 easy miles with Ruby (my dog) 7) 9:06 8) 9:27 9) 9:38.  I was tired, but happy to get my miles in and to get sub-20.

At practice we ran golf course.  I went up the hill at a pushing pace with some of the girls.  On 10th west we slowed down and chatted with other teammates. Then, we hit the trail and I tried to keep up with Kyler who went out on a full sprint.  I was a little confused, so I slowed down.  Down the canyon Megan started to speed up so I caught up with her.  Our last mile was really fast and we ended up doing it under 40 minutes. Afterwards Coach talked to us about camp.  There was a moment where I may have blacked out and almost puked, but I think I was  discrete about it and only told a few people.

I was supposed to get 10 miles each day for Mon-Wed, but yesterday I had only gotten 5. This morning I tried to go tempo, but I think I was tired. 1) 6:44 (okay) 2) 6:58 (little too slow) 3) 8:15 (way to slow).  It was under 22 mintes (barely), but that's okay.  In the evening I went 7 very slow miles.  My last two I did with Ruby and it was getting dark.

I had girls camp and I had to be there at 8, so I woke up at 5:00am to get my run in with my dad.  We went 12 up the canyon and I was really tired from last night, so we were going up at 9 minute miles.  When we got to the top we stopped shortly, then kept going.  The first mile down the canyon my heel kept popping!  It hurt really bad and I tried to loosen it up while running which didn't work.  At the mile mark we stopped and I stretched it out.  I think it was because I did too many miles too fast.  The next 5 were perfectly fine and I sped up a ton because going downhill.  We passed Mac Park and I saw the XC team doing 400 repeats.  It was a really good run that helped me get some more miles in.  Our average pace was 8:36 which is good.

I was in Moab at Girl's Camp and one of my leaders, Becca Louviere, ran with me.  She was so awesome to do that, because I didn't want to and couldn't go alone.  At 6:00 am we went up the canyon we were camping at for 18 minutes to estimate it would take us 2 miles to run.  It was so beautiful.  There was a trail for a while, then we had to get on the road.  We found a biking trail called the enchilada or something like that and went up it a little ways.  Once we turned around it felt better because we had an idea of where to go.  The sun came up as we ran back which was really pretty.  We had a blast chatting the entire way about running and biking (because she's big into biking).

Becca and I ran again together.  There was this trail that was 3 miles that we decided to try out.  Because we had extra time we started at 6:30am.  It was really pretty.  There were some parts we had to hike and the trail was sometimes hard to find, but we had a blast chatting and exploring.

In the morning Becca and I ran again.  We thought there was a trail, but we couldn't find it.  That took us maybe 3/4 of a mile.  Then we went up the road for 15 minutes.  Halfway through, her hamstring was hurting (which is why she doesn't run so much) so I went ahead.  I went up a small hill and then turned around at 15 minutes.  When I met up with her she ran with me and we talked quite a bit which is really fun.  Apparently our campground was where the Moab 1/2 starts, but I couldn't find any mile markers. I think I went around 4. I was really glad Becca could run with me and she was saying that she normally couldn't go so many days, but luckily she could! :)

That night when we got home I threw on my shoes and ran with my dad as he road the bike.  It was getting dark, but I needed 4 more miles.  My times were 1) 8:12 2) 8:24 3) 9:19 4) 9:09. The last mile I had to go to the bathroom, but made it to the end.  This week was a blast and I got in my 42 miles! :)

We ran sattleback and I went ahead of all the girls for some reason. (I think I wanted to push the pace.)  I was planning on maybe going 6 miles to start out my week well.  The boys turned early, and I had no idea where they were going.  Kyle Peterson didn't either, so we kept going.  I was going to turn around, but ended up following the road because I never had.  I think I was going slow for Kyle, but he was nice enough to stay with me.  When we saw the road turned there was a 4 mile mark meaning we were going the right way.  We followed that which led back to sv.  It was a fun run to follow the road.  I was slightly nervous we would end up getting lost, but we didn't.  When we got back, everybody was all done and leaving.  I was really tired afterwards.

I did 3 miles tempo.  It was one of those really good tempo days.  It was weird because when I didn't want to go any faster, I would speed up knowing I had to hit the right times.  My times were 1)6:32, 2)6:33, 3)6:46.  I then took a break because I was dead.  The total time was 19:52 which is awesome!!! I was SO happy to get sub-20. I then went another mile trying to get under seven.  It ended up being 7:15.  I took another break to get my dog and ran an 8:30 cool down mile with Ruby.  It was a ton of fun and I was SO happy!

We did beauty today.  After warming up Coach talked to us about hills.  I really didn't want to run it, but I knew it would hopefully get me faster.  Beauty is about 150 meters and realluy steep, but fast. He told us to do it 10-12 times, and under 40 seconds.  My times were 1) 34, 2) 36, 3) 36, 4) 38, 5) 38, 6) 38, 7) 39, 8) 38, 9) 39, 10) 38, 11) 38, 12) I have no idea because my watch didn't start.  It took me 33 minutes to do the entire thing.  I was the only girl to do 12, and I wanted to throw up at the end.  I may not have been the fastest (because I can't sprint or do hills), but I figured out how to turn over well and I could also keep myself going all the way.  It was hard.  We then cooled down a mile back to sv.  It was really fun and I was happy to be done.

I was stupid and didn't run in the morning.  Instead I did golf course run in the middle of the afternoon when it was scortching hot (for Cache Valley).  I brought a water bottle which was smart. It took me 54:25 which isn't bad.  I did stop a few times to grab a drink, but it was well needed.  It was also kind of fun to run in the heat.

I ran 3 miles in the morning with Ruby.  I wasn't feeling the greatest.

In the evening at around 9 my dad and I went on a run in St. George.  We went 6.6 miles, but it was super slow.  It was really fun, but my legs were beat.

My family was in Lake Powell this week and I thought "Why not try to hit 45 miles this week?" Bad idea.  It's really hard to run without any trail whatsoever.  I wanted to run around this bend thing near the water, which ended up being a mile both ways.  It took me 14 minutes to run the first mile.  I was dying.  It took me another 16 minutes to run the second mile.  It felt as if I had run a 10k.  I was too lazy to keep going.

Still at Lake Powell: My dad and I ran together.  We were following no trail on sand.  I was struggling so much.  I couldn't keep up with him because I was stressed about how difficult it was to run on the sand.  After 2 miles I broke down because I was worried I'd be burned out due to it being so hard.  My dad wanted me to keep going and we found a little area that was flat.  He told me we should try some sprints: which was the best idea EVER! Instead I did striders.  I think we did six which boosted my confidence SO much.  I felt happier and knew I could still go fast. We decided to follow this cool wash, which led to a horse trail.  I told my dad we should do it tomorrow and we went back.  It was fun when we discovered that area to do striders.

At Lake Powell: we went later in the morning (around 10) up that horse trail/wash.  I thought we could go up 45 minutes, then come back down.  We continued following the horse trail.  It was a beautiful run, but we were going super slow.  It didn't really matter because my breathing was still really deep which meant I was working hard.  We went up for over 30 minutes, and my dad had forgotten to turn on his Garmin!  It didn't really matter, though, because I felt good.  We turned around after we got to a really pretty canyon.  We went back to the area to do striders and did 4 shorter ones.  Then, we jogged/walked back to the houseboat.  It was really fun and we estimated the distance was about 6 miles (maybe more).
