Personal:

When I was young, I ran local fun runs with my family, but nothing more. I watched my dad, mom, and 2 older brothers begin running and decided to try it out. During the spring of 6th grade, I ran 3 miles a couple times a week with my dad and have loved running ever since. I ran local 5ks and even a half marathon. In 7th grade I watched Conner, my older brother, run cross country and decided that I wanted to try it.

High School: Really enjoyed it all so much, grateful for all of the friendships I made while doing it. There were ups and downs, but it was a wonderful experience!

I enjoy running, playing piano, painting, skiing, and hiking. Life is totally worth living. Running my favorite meditation. I ran for Sky View High School. I served a mission in the Adriatic North Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Not yet sure what my plans are with running these next few month, but I am looking forward to an exciting future!

We were in Monticello and had been driving all afternoon. Got going around 5. I felt the elevation the first, uphill mile, but after that it wasn't too bad. I went to the lake and hopped onto that trail the first possible entrance. Saw plenty of animals. Took the first trail off and went up a road that was covered in snow over the winter. Turned a corner, and it was all uphill. After crossing the 5th cattle guard, I took a break, then finished to 4 miles out. Turned around and flew down the hill. Followed back around the lake where I had come. Dropped my pace way down the last mile  (all downhill). Saw my uncle riding his bike. Almost took a wrong turn to my grandpa's. 8:05 average pace.

Still in Monticello. 9 in the morning. It was 10:00, but not too hot. Went up to the lake. Entered onto the trail the last possible entrance. Went around counterclockwise, which had me at 4.5, so I turned around. It was easier running around clockwise. Followed the road back. My pace wavered right around 8:40 the entire time, but dropped down to 8:29 the final, downhill mile. Way nice getting that many miles in the mmorning.

3.5 in the evening with Ruby. We went up to the lake (1.5ish out) and over the dam and back. On our way back, Ruby had gone off the trail, stepping in cactus. A small piece stuck to her back paw. I picked her up to pull it out getting a few pricks in my finger and a nice yelp from her. She was able to run home after, so Ruby is a trooper. 8:30 average pace, I think.

Bumbed I couldn't run the freedom run 15k, but there was a local 5k in Blanding, so we did that, instead. Warmed up a mile which was the start and finish of the course with Ruby. Didn't know where I was because I hadn't raced since state, and had only done one tempo run. I knew Skye was running, and hoped to stay with her. When we started, she was with a pack of san juan boys and I was a ways behind. 2 guys were way ahead. There was quite a bit of uphill, but it seemed to be where I got closer. The pack spread out, and I picked off a few guys catching skye at 1.5. Stuck with her until 2.5. I hope I wasn't intimidating, but ended up speeding up the last half mile, catching the guy in 3rd. Finishing was painful, and I surprisingly didn't get passed. I was mentally not up to race and struggled at the start. Don't know how, but just pushed through. My foot was only a little achy, but no sharp pains, yay! Talked to skye, and we did a mile cool down together. Glad to fingure out where I am right now. The race was really fun and well organized. Happy to do something this fourth of july.

Garrett was down to run, so I ran a quick mile (7:38) while he got ready. We drove up dry to the wilderness trailhead and started up. He had me lead, and we saw plenty of animals. At one point, we were chasing a bunch of turkeys down the trail. Right after, a cotton tail rabbit was running in front if us. I didn't see it, almost stepping on it. We had a ton of fun on the trail jumping over rocks and logs. It got really overgrown half a mile up, and being in front, I was covered in spider webs. The cliffs up there are super pretty. If Garrett had his climbing gear, he'd be up them. We took a couple walking breaks because Garrett hadn't ran in a while. The trail is uphill, but we didn't get far enough to flat-top steep. We got 1.5 up, and relaxed for a minute. Some bigger animal was up the trail, but neither of us saw it. He had me lead going back down. We sped way up, but I stumbled more. I almost stepped on a water snake which made me jump. As we were going down, there was something moving in the grass. In the corner of my eye, I saw a fat diamond back. I yelled, "Big snake! Big snake! Big snake!" We heard a rattle, and Garrett yelled, "Go, go, go!" Haha, it was an adrenaline rush. Garrett saw more of the snake, and I guess it had a huge rattle. We continued booking it for a while. It was a way fun adventure, and I'm glad Garrett's a bro whose down to run trails. Our average pace was over 10 minute miles, but running took plenty of effort.

When it had started to get dark, I did 3 quick miles with Ruby. They felt really good. Somehow, they stayed at 7:30 pace, but the mile splits were 7:29, 7:43, and 7:16. Had a fun evening after.

For practice, we did sunnyside and met up at mack park after to play games. Everybody was tired, so it was nice! Our first mile was 8:29, and the next 3 miles were in 22:30. Not many people showed up, but we had a good pack up front. To make sure the pack behind us knew where to go, a few of us stopped and went with them. Then, we played partner tag, getting soaked and muddy. We ran back as a team, kind of. I didn't get that mile timed, but it was slow. It was a good, relaxing practice.

In the afternoon, I did 5 miles easy up Smithfield canyon. It wasn't super hot, but still warm. The mile splits were 7:08, 7:47, 7:41, 7:20, 7:50. They vary due to hills, but overall it was under 38 minutes.  The last mile, I focused on keeping pace and never slowing up the hill. It felt good, and somehow kept it under 8 minute miles.

Slept in and took forever to get running. Finally got myself going. 2 miles up the canyon,  I was at a decent pace and thought maybe I'll do a tempo run! 200m in, my achilles popped. Stopped to stretch it, then jogged another mile slow. Turned around and went really easy. My stomach started hurting, so I was glad I turned around early. My body was tired, and I haven't gotten a ton of sleep the last few days, so it felt good to slow down. 8:30 average pace for 6 in the morning.

At 9, I was feeling really good (napping helped), so I ran. Went on downstream upper canal. Hit 2 clouds of gnats within 50 meters of each other. The first didn't seem to end. The second got plenty in my eyes. Went to 6th and came back on hillside, where there were less gnats/bugs. I was averaging a 7:49 pace, but my watch ran outta batteries the last mile. This loop was 3.5 miles. When I got home, Garrett wanted to run, so I went with him once I grabbed my stopwatch. It was dark by now, so we were running in total darkness down hillside. Went to 6th, then looped back around the block on our way back. He was only planning to run 2, but wanted to add extra, so we did 3. We did it in 22 minutes, so 7:20 pace. Lol, it was crazy how much he sped up at the end, I couldn't catch him. It was a fun evening to run, and even saw some fireworks. Didn't plan to go this far today, but it caught me up on mileage.

Everybody was pretty tired, so we did warm up extended, but it wasn't where I thought we were going, haha. Me, Arianna, and Clara just followed the lead pack of boys. We went above the canal, then dropped to go to Mack Park, then went up beauty, half way down beast, down a road, then back on church run. Really random, but short and fun. We were at a 7:45 average pace at 3 miles, but then my watch ran outta batteries. Then, some of us did core while others played soccer. Really chill. I was going to run in the evening, but my body was not physically feeling it at all. Today kinda threw off my mileage, but that's okay. Ended up going on a night hike.

Ran with Amber today, which was way fun! We went onto a trail that hops into birch. Continued up Birch. At 2 miles, neither of our watches were working, but we kept going. We turned around at one of the crossings which was actually just short of 4 miles up. Came back down the canyon back to my house. On our way down (we had sped up) there was a black and yellow spotted snake across the dirt road. It was about 3 feet long. Without much thought, we kept running. It was on my side of the road, so I jumped over it. As I jumped, it coiled up. Lol, I screamed, and we both hauled down the canyon. It was pretty great. Glad we didn't get bit. It was way fun talking to Amber and just going for a chill trail run. Our pace was definitely over 10 minute miles, but it was all on trails.

I was hoping to run more, but my family went boating. As soon as we got home, I had to leave for work, so this week's mileage wasn't where I wanted it to be.

None of the coaches were at practice, although moratorium was last week. We waited almost 10 minutes, then decided to do cedaridge backwards. The whole time Arianna, Clara, and I stuck together which makes me way pumped for this season. We probably were running an 8 minute average pace. We caught a pack of boys the last 1.5 and passed them. The three of us sped up towards the end, which felt really good. At the stop-sign, we turned around, but only got out about 200m before turning back around to sv. Way fun practice.

Really pumped about today. Didn't notice any pain in my foot which was wonderful! Warmed up a mile trying to get my watch to link, but it never did. Grabbed my stopwatch, and then did the good ol' 3 mile tempo on hillside. It was really good. My mile splits werer 6:15, 6:25, 6:19 which added up to 19:00.55. My first mile was faster than anticipated, but it felt comfortable. The second mile, I really focused on keeping my stride, but was 10 seconds slow at the half mile. Coming down the hill, I pushed it more. The last mile was decent. A quarter mile into it, I did slow down a bit, which is where I need to work on pushing it. Coming up the slight hill, my thighs were burning a bit. Really pushed it the last half and quarter mile. Sadly, I didn't break 19, but this was the fastest I'd done all summer. If it hadn't hurt, I would have ran another mile or two. Next time. Cooled down a mile.

In the evening, I ran 3 miles with Ruby at about 8 minute average pace. It had cooled down, but was still a warm summer night. When I got home, I got a text to run the USU course. Drove to it, and the guys were already almost done. Ran the last half mile with them. Then, we ran on campus to the graveyard and walked around for a while, which is totally normal, lol. Ran back getting me to 2.77, but I was too tired to run another quarter mile. It was way fun running that late at night.

At practice we went up dry canoyon. Our goal was to make it to the water tank. That uphill gets to you. It seemed to never end, but my mindset was once we got up, we had all downhill. Arianna and Clara were pushing it, which was awesome. Clara dropped, but kept going. Arianna was struggling, so we slowed down. We went up another .15 from the water tank to get to 2.5 which got us to 5 miles. Because it was all downhill, our pace dropped down to an 8:15. Super fun going up that canyon. Core after was hard and short which was nice.

Around 3, I did a nice 4 mile heat run. While my watch loaded, I did a quarter of a mile to round out from yesterday. Then, I went up birch. Sadly, that canyon doesn't have a ton of shade. I pushed it up trying to keep my pace under 8, but the last mile, it went up to an 8:30. Took a break at the second gate, then came back down. Dropped my pace to an 8:02 average. It's really fun running up birch.

I was way tired from work, so I slept in and didn't start running til 10:30. I just took the course that Amber and I ran last Saturday, but backwards. My pace was pretty great on the dirt road up birch, then I hit the trail. It's pretty uphill but so much fun. Went to the same river crossing. Coming down was really nice. I hit a lot of steep downhills fast which is daring for me, lol. Normally, I don't go downhill so fast, but I was able to keep my momentum pretty well. I took a wrong turn at a fork, but cut through to the main trail when I started going up the mountain, haha. When I passed the second gate on my way down, I turned onto the trail. There wasn't much shade as it got later in the day. Crossed the fields on a little road and made it back. It had gotten pretty hot. Ice-cold cache valley water tasted amazing after today's run. 9:44 average pace due to the hills and trails. I love running up birch, and it has helped me discover how much fun trail running really is.

We did sunnyside at practice. Me, Arianna, and Clara started together, again. We weren't too far behind the lead pack of boys. When we went down the hill, Clara shot ahead catching the lead boys. We started going up the canyon, and I tried to catch them, too. Dropping Arianna and Ryan who was also with us. They turned around at 3 miles up, so I did too.  The pack sped up, and I knew I wouldn't catch them. Knowing that Arianna wasn't too far behind me, I stopped and went with both her and Ryan. We chatted the rest of the way down, which was fun. We slowed way down the last mile, but still averaged a 7:40 pace. Because we turned around earlier, we weren't at 6 miles, so we ran around the parking lot until the mileage rounded to 6.

Early in the morning, I met up with Amber at sv. Unbeknown to her, the track was being resurfaced. We still weren't allowed on, so we warmed up to Mack Park. We did 6 400s at racepace (or whatever pace we could hit them) with a 200 recovery.  It was more of a fun workout. The sprinklers were on on the north end of the park, so we avoided them, messing around with the course. They averaged from 1:30 to 1:42. The faster ones were on the correct part of the course, while the slower ones consisted of more obstacles (including sprinklers, haha). After, we took advantage of the downhill 200 and did 3 200s with a 200 recovery. They were 34, 35, 38. The last one we had to avoid a truck and an old couple crossing the bridge. It was a really fun workout and nice to try something fast. On our way back, we extended our cool down on the lower canal behind sunrise, on the course, and to the tree of life. We got in 6 miles which was way nice.

A little later in the morning, Brayden and I went up Birch. He was in town, and nobody else was, so it was just the two of us. It was way fun. We got past the 3rd gate, and there were a ton of people up there. Sometimes, I never see a person. Today, the canyon was filled. It was way fun crossing the rivers. On our way back, we took a left on the trail that leads to crossing the fields which was fun. We averaged a 9:00 pace for 7 miles, which was good for a trail run.

Not the best day. I felt super good at the start. We did upper canal for the first time all year. The uphill kind of killed me, but I was able to stick with Jackson and Ethan. When we got to the canal trail, we did 3x1:00 with a 2:00 recovery. It was different, and I didn't know what pace, so we went maybe ipace. We got about .18 miles for each set, which is close to a 6 minute mile. The third one, I got really tired. I tried to stay with the guys, but felt a little nauseous, so I stopped. After standing there for a minute, I felt like puking. I've never puked from running, but have been waiting for the day to come. Today wasn't that day. I dry heaved quite a bit, then stood there. After a minute, I began to walk back, but felt a bit dizzy. Sat on a cement thing. Luckily, nobody had stopped to talk. Then, Trevor came along. He began talking to me. At first, I wasn't up for it, but I'm grateful he stayed there. When I was feeling up for it, we began jogging back. Trevor got my mind off of how I physically felt, which was wonderful. We were some of the last people back, averaging an 8:44 pace for 6.62 miles. I was too lazy to round the mileage out. Luckily, Jaci led core. I may have felt sick from not drinking or eating that morning, but I usually don't eat mornings before my run. Hopefully it doesn't happen again, because getting sick while running is rough. Didn't run at all later, but did go on a small hike. My body was a little tired during the bouldering, but it was still fun.

Didn't think today was going to go down the way it did. I was gonna do church run tempo. During my warmup to sv, there was a headwind while going south.  I didn't wanna finish with a headwind, so I decided to do cedaridge. The warmup was 2 miles, so I started next to the track. My first mile was a 6:31, with a headwind. Took a minute break, then started on the second mile. Halfway through the second mile, I was on one of the few turns at 6:40ish pace. There was a little mud in the rain gutter, which I don't think too much about. As I turned, my foot slid from under me. First thing I said (after a grunt) was "crap". I hopped up, hoping it didn't mess up my tempo too much, but stopped. This isn't my first time falling/sliding on a tempo, but gladly this time, there wasn't gravel. (The last time was in January of 2015) I feel like an idiot falling for the second time. Nobody saw, which was wonderful. While I was looking at the damage, a truck drove by. It wasn't nearly as bad as last time, but all of the scrapes are in the exact same spots, just opposite sides of my body, so now I have matching scars, yay! My knee and elbow had dirt embed and burned the most. My hands and hip were very slight. Somehow, my ipod didn't break, but my thumb and pointer finger started bleeding, first, from saving it. I was covered in mud this time, not dust. After thinking about it, I just ran home. Took plenty of stops. The wind made the cuts burn. Passing the track, I ran head-on into a sprinkler, which washed a ton of the mud/dirt off. Ran on the course, passed sunrise, then up golf course hill to avoid the uphill and main roads. Stopped and walked a bunch. Averaged an 8:54 pace for 6.5 miles. Since I'd done this before, cleaning up wasn't too bad, just painful. I'm not in nearly as much shock as last time, so I'll probably be up for an afternoon run.

At practice, we did golf course extended. I started slow to push the other girls, but slowly pulled away catching Clara at the top of the hill. Clara and I extended up the canyon. My whole body was pretty bruised up from yesterday, and my shin and hip both hurt to run. Felt good going a nice and easy 8:06 average pace.

Ran two miles after work with Ruby. It was dark, and I was tired. Not super fast. I should have gone more, but didn't wanna stay out too late.

For practice, we met up green canyon and began at the Bonneville Shoreline trail. Hadn't ever ran it before, so it was nice to switch things up. Clara and I pushed each other, but had fun talking. It had some nice views, but I could understand that it could get boring. We continued past the graffiti towers to 2.5, then turned around. Coach wanted our pack to go down some switchbacks, which were killer coming back up. We came back pretty slow, getting 5.25 at around an 8:10 average pace.

In the hot afternoon, I decided to run. I brought a frozen waterbottle with me, which was completely liquid by the end. It was over 90 degrees outside. Went up the canyon and kept pushing my pace. Went up 3.5, but on my way down, I wasn't feeling too great. Ran through the park, where a wedding was going on. Coming back, I attempted to push the pace. Stopped a bunch to drink from my waterbottle. 8:09 average pace for 7.13 miles.

Went up Birch. It was really nice. Started through the fields, then followed the trail. Made it past the third gate and kept going. Trail running seems to be getting easier, although my pace is slower. Coming down the canyon was fun. 9:13 average pace. Should have ran 4 more miles, but at the same time, I needed to taper for monday.

I was super happy to do a race this summer! It was an early morning, but not too early. Warmed up maybe a half mile, maybe more. Had no idea what time I would hit, I was just hoping for maybe a sub-40. I hadn't ran a ton of tempo, either, this summer. I did wear my flats, though. There were a ton of people I recognized at the start. Talked to quite a few people. The start was fun, there were a lot of people. Turned the corner, and took advantage of the first hill. Of course, 200m in, my left shoe untied. I was next to Sarah Feeny and 2 other girls. I almost wanted to ask outloud if I should stop or keep going to tie my shoe. Just kept running. The four of us pushed each other for the next 3 miles. It felt good. I PRed in my 2 mile up. At about 3.5 miles, a girl came up from behind and passed us. Sarah went with her, and I tried to hold on, but got gapped pretty well. A girl in red was maybe 7 seconds ahead of me, but that gap grew. At mile 4, my legs began to feel the burn. My stride didn't feel as strong the last 2 miles, but I kept a decent pace. On the last turn, where the finish line was in view, I felt a pop on my right foot around the toes. A blister had popped. I was not mentally prepped for the final stretch to be as long as it was. Tried to get on my toes, but the blister burned a bit. Was still able to speed up at the end. After I finished, I looked down at my foot and some blood had soaked through my shoe from the blister. The mile splits were 5:26, 5:43, 5:59, 6:01, 6:13, 8:07 (last 1.2). My first 2 mile was a 11:10 and first 3 mile was a 17:09, so much faster than I'd ever ran either of those distances. It was way fun, though. I'm still pretty shocked about all of those times. Hopefully they can boost my confidence, lol. It was a blast talking to and catching up with a bunch of people after. I was sore, and was stupid enough not to cool down. Had a fun rest of the day with sore calves and thighs. I'm happy with the race, though.

Met up at the wilderness trailhead up Birch. It was Ethan's last chance to run up to flat top, so we did it today. More people were gonna show, but only Storrs, Spencer, Ethan, and I showed up at 6am. My calves and thighs were still really sore from yesterday. We started up nice and easy with Storrs in the front.  It was not completely a run, but I'm counting the whole thing. About half a mile out, my calves were burning, but I just kept going. For the second mile, my left foot went numb, which was weird. It hurt, but I couldn't say 'no' to my only chance to run flat top this year (for my first time ever as a matter of fact). My foot found feeling when we got further up and slowed down. As we went up, it slowly got steeper. By the third mile, we were averaging 20 minute miles. It was still way fun! The trail was really overgrown, but that didn't stop us, lol. The weeds and rocks did pull off my scabs from tripping last week, which didn't feel too good. When the trail ended, I was feeling physically really good, and could've gone a bit faster. The view was amazing! Because Ethan had to get home, soon, we didn't spend too much time at the top. It was 4.5 miles exactly, which was awesome. Came back down really slowly. I suck at going downhill, especially with gravel, so that was an adventure. Spencer and I usually got left in the dust, but Storrs and Ethan were nice enough to stop and wait. It was way fun running up there, and we did it in about 4 hours. At the bottom, we drank some weird juice stuff and said goodbye to Ethan.

The rest of the day, my body was super sore.

I was at girls camp, so I woke up around 6:30 to run. It was really cold, but felt amazing. We were at Cinnamon Creek, so I continued up the road. Found a trail that led to Rosy's Mine, so I ran up to that. My legs were still super sore, so I thought today was gonna be a recovery run, but it wasn't. There was a ton of uphill and downhill. Crossing the rivers on these log bridges was cool. The min was 1.5 up, and there were 2 boyscouts up there. The trail kept going, so I followed it, but it was straight up the mountain! I kept following it, thinking it would level out, but it never did. I turned around becuase I didn't want to climb 2 mountains in 2 days. My average pace was over 14, and I took the downhills way slow. The trail was a bit uneven, but on the flattest part, I tripped on the tiniest rock, bruising my knees and palms. It was just in dirt, and no blood, so that was a plus. Got back after 4.8 miles at 13:40 average pace.

Took a quick break, and one of my leaders, Emily, was gonna run. We went down the road this time. It was fun chatting with her, and it felt good to do something flat to recover. We turned around at a fence, and walked up the hills. We did 2.87 miles (not including the walking) at about 10 minute average pace.

Still at camp, but I woke up at 6. It was super chilly, but felt wonderful. I went 2.5 down the canyon, then came back up. I should have gone further, but I was gonna meet our vistauns to run a few miles at 7. Coming back was harder, because it was uphill. 9:02 average pace. It was really fun. My calves were still a little sore, but they're feeling somewhat better. When I got back, I waited for 15 minutes, and nobody showed up/woke up. I turned my gps back on, but it didn't load. I was super tired, so instead of running more miles, I went back to bed. Had a fun day relaxing, though.

Got home in the afternoon. It was hot, and my time was limitted. Only did 4 up the canyon in 90 degree weather. 8:25 average pace. My body was exhausted, and calves were still feeling sore. Had a fun evening, though.

Made the decision to just make this weekend my time off before xc. It is super early, so I may take a mid-season break if I am tired. My body was just really tired this week, and I had no chance to run today. The last 2 days were short, so today and tomorrow will be off. I'll start my season training on Monday, so I'm pumped.
