Personal:

When I was young, I ran local fun runs with my family, but nothing more. I watched my dad, mom, and 2 older brothers begin running and decided to try it out. During the spring of 6th grade, I ran 3 miles a couple times a week with my dad and have loved running ever since. I ran local 5ks and even a half marathon. In 7th grade I watched Conner, my older brother, run cross country and decided that I wanted to try it.

High School: Really enjoyed it all so much, grateful for all of the friendships I made while doing it. There were ups and downs, but it was a wonderful experience!

I enjoy running, playing piano, painting, skiing, and hiking. Life is totally worth living. Running my favorite meditation. I ran for Sky View High School. I served a mission in the Adriatic North Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Not yet sure what my plans are with running these next few month, but I am looking forward to an exciting future!

We did the tree of life for a premeet really easy which was a lot of fun.  After that we did 6 striders.  I felt really crappy even though it was a premeet.

We warmed up doing part of the course so we wouldn't get lost which was a little under 2 miles.

I was pretty nervous because we were going against Ogden for the first time and I didn't know what to expect. Right before we were about to start, Coach was talking to Lauren and me about how Katelyn and Riley are going to go hard.  I was pretty pumped right after he told us that.  When we started, I felt really good, so I got all the way in the front.  I just didn't feel like I was going hard enough.  The first half mile I was in front of everybody which to me was CRAZY!  After two girls passed me I didn't feel as crazy which was good.  My first mile was around 6:11 which was dang fast.  I was in third for quite a while until an Ogden girl passed me and I hung on her almost the entire time.  Towards the very end she began to go the wrong way and I would have felt really bad if I beat her just because she was going the wrong way, so I was telling her "wrong way!" I feel like I pretty much let her pass me after that, then another Ogden girl passed me.  At the very end I was trying to sprint to possible pass them, but I didn't have the energy.  I wish I didn't let them pass me, but I wasn't thinking much.

We beat Ogden, still which was pretty good and I think our team has a pretty good chance for region.

At early morning practice, everybody had already started and I needed to catch up to the girls.  I was bundled up a ton because it was cold outside.  I finally caught up to them a little past a mile and a half and went pretty easy the rest of the way.  I ended up taking off one of my shirts because I was so hot.  I had a lot of fun and that was the funnest early morning practice I've had yet because I felt good, and had a lot of time to change afterwards.

We did a mile warm up to Mack Park.  I didn't really want to go there, but it turned out I felt really good durning my run so in the end I was happy we went there.  We did 2 1000s at I pace with a 3 minute recovery which for us were right on and felt really good.  Then we did 4 400s at R pace with a 400 recovery in between.  They were really nice and also right on.  Finally we did 4 200s at R pace.  A huge group of girls were doing them with us for the first one, so we split up because it was really tough with so many people to get the perfect time.  In between those we had a 200 recovery. Then we cooled down a mile.  I felt super good and had a really good day which was really nice.

I did five pretty slow miles at 8:30 pace.  I should have done more, but I did them earlier in the morning and it was cold.  At one point Conner came up behind me and I heard hime, but I didn't know he was so close, and he scared me pretty well.  I thought it was funny.  After 2 miles, my iPod ran out of battery, so I ran musicless, but it was still fun.

We warmed up 1 mile, I was really in the mood to do a tempo for some reason, but we ended up doing something way different and much easier.  Then, we ran 1 1000 at i pace.  It was much faster than it should have been because we have been so competative and somebody will speed up making everybody else go faster.  Our recovery was around 600m Then we did 3x400 at race pace.  The first one there was a huge group of people running with making it hard, so mine was a little slow.  The next two were right on because we split up into two groups. Between each 400 we did a 400 recovery.  After that we did 4x200 which were all a couple seconds fast.  Coach wanted us to keep it efficient and right on, but it was downhill which made it hard to keep it slower. In between each of those we also had a 200 recovery.  After that we cooled down around a mile.  I felt super good today.

I was expecting a little more difficult of a premeat, but we jogged to Mack Park, then played partner tag.  After that Coach talked to us a bit about tomorrow, then we jogged back to Sky View.

We weren't planning on going out hard, but it was still much faster than I had planned.  Right before we jogged the two different loops which added up to 1.5 miles.  Then we raced.  Because Bonneville didn't race their varsity, we were planning on doing tempo, but get slower by 10 seconds each mile. It was also boys with girls, so we could just get over with it. Right when we started, some Bonneville boys yelled, "for Narnia!"  It was pretty funny and we were just laughing.  The entire race we chatted and talked and didn't really try to push the pace, even though we were.  Our first mile was around 6:30 and we wanted 6:50.  Our next I think was around 6:50 because we kind of forced ourselves to slow down.  Our last one was fast, also.  Right at the end we talked about making it a dramatic, slow finish just for fun.  Instead, everybody caught me by surprise to sprint!  I didn't catch them and gladly it wasn't for region because I was 8th on the girls' team.  Then we did a 1.5 cool down and had a fun bus ride home.

We did a mile warmup, then TERRIBLE TRIANGLES.  I didn't know what they were, but now I do and they weren't very terrible.  We would do 300m at race pace 3 times for each triangle.   We did 2 triangles.  The thing that was hard was the race pace because there was nobody your speed to push you, they were mainly really fast guys.  I felt like throwing up after the first triangle, but it could have been from eating a bigger than usual lunch.  I felt much better when we did this weird cool down where Coach led us around the football field and it added up to a mile, I think.

3 simple miles.  8:05-8:35 pace.  I tried on my last 400m to stay on my toes to get a good mentality for a sprint.  I don't know if it worked, but I remember when I was first running and I'd always sprint at the end of any workout, before I knew what cool downs were.  I wonder if that possibly helped out with my sprinting when I did races when I was younger.  I don't know, just a thought.   I felt really good and had a lot of fun.

Coach gave the girls a pep talk about region and how good we have done so far, then we ran 2 very easy, slow miles.  After that we did 6 striders and the first one was a little short.  I wasn't feeling amazing, but I was super pumped for region.

All day I was pretty pumped for region.  When we got there, the nerves finally kicked in.  We jogged around the course adding up to about two miles and I was really ready.  I feel like I warmed up early, but it helped me mentally quite a bit.  I really wanted to get over with it.  When we did a couple striders I wasn't going as fast as I'd liked, but it turned out okay.

When we started I kept my eye on the hill that we were going to run past which really helped me have a good start.  Once we reached a street I noticed Vickie and I hoped to stay with her, but I slowly got further behind her.  I then kept up with Jessie, a Logan girl, and my teammate Lauren.  I was feeling really good, but when we passed the one mile mark I got nervous, because our first mile was a little slower than 6 which I thought was way too fast.  We completed the first loop and continued to stick together.  After the second mile I was still feeling good.  We got toward the last 800m and there were these two bumps that took lots of my energy out of me and I slowed a bit.  I caught back up  with the two and then Jessie sprinted off.  I tried to sprint, but I couldn't stay with her.  The last 200 meteres was hard because you thought the finish was right there, but it seemed so far away.  I tried to sprint from Lauren knowing there was also a MC girl behind us, but the last 50m they both sprinted past me. Our times are so close. I'm really mad about it, but I learned that you don't pull back until the very end.

I felt tired afterwards, but when I saw my time I got super happy and pumped because my goal was sub-twenty and I got sub-nineteen!  We cooled down about a mile while watching the boys race.  I had a really good day.

We met up again in the morning and did a slow one mile warmup to Mack Park.  We did one 600 I pace and it was WAY too fast, but oh well. Then we did 200 recovery.  Next, we ran three 200s R pace which we all about 40 seconds which was also fast, with 200 recovery.  Then we ran back about 1.3 miles cool down.

We warmed up about 3/4 a mile.  Then, we did 30 seconds at I pace with 30 seconds recovery twice.  After that we did 15 seconds at R pace with 15 second recovery five times.  The entire time we kept pushing eachother instead of actually going the correct pace.  I felt really great and the last one I went all out just for fun.  Then we jogged a half mile recovery.

We jogged around about 1.5 miles and part way through we did 2 long striders and at the end we did 2 shorter striders.  I wasn't feeling super great during the striders for some reason (I think I was nervous).  Then Coach talked to us about state.

State!  All day I was freaking out because I was so nervous which is a bad thing.  When we got there we relaxed which was the only thing I couldn't do.  Finally we began warming up.  I brought my iPod to help me mentally get in the right phase.  As we warmed up I was so tense!  I should have relaxed more.  We warmed up about 2 miles.  While doing my leg swings I was still not in the right phase and trying to get into it.  I may have been psyced out a bit because it was state.  Then we got to the starting line.  I thought it was a race where you start, but NO, they have a minute of silence which freaked me out!  I wanted to start NOW!  I feel as if I do better at the races where they just say "go!" and you go.

When they shot the gun I put my eyes on the end of the funnel and sprinted.  I did get boxed in a little, but it didn't affect badly.  After a couple meters past the funnel I felt somebody trip on the back of my shoe  which untied it.  Later on I found out it was Miranda and I felt so bad.  I just kept going up the hill.  I was still feeling nervous which was weird.  I think I was in the top 20 to 30.  As we went on that flat spot quite a few girls passed me, then going down the steep hill I couldn't catch my breath.  I was breathing VERY hard.  Then, before the hill I just didn't feel good (probably from nerves).  I tried to go up the hill fast, but I couldn't.  When I got to the top I tried to speed up again and I crossed the one mile mark.  A bunch of people had passed me by now and I wanted to give up.  It was all mental.  The race continued and I feel as if I didn't do very well.  I felt so sick, also, at one point I told myself I'd just go to the side and throw up.  The last 800meters I started to actually feel a bit better and I sped up knowing this was my last chance to get a better time.  My last 200 meters I felt much more amazing and passed a couple of girls which I am happy about because my sprint was actually good.

Afterwards, while watching Conner's amazing race, I did a two mile cool down where I began to feel better.  I wish I ran my race feeling how I did at the time.

Overall I had a good start, terrible middle, and pretty descent end.  My goal was sub-twenty which I didn't get by 13 seconds!  I was mainly really mad at myself because my time was just a bit slower than tempo.  Now that I think about it, it was my freshman year and I three more years.  I was pretty hard on myself about that. Our team did pretty well, we got 7th which is much better than last year.

I'm pretty sad the season's over, but I'm excited for next year and now I'm going to train for Foot Locker Regionals.

So, this entire run all I thought about was State and I kept pushing myself to go harder because I wasn't very happy about it. I also wasn't hurting at all, which also I wasn't happy about.  My first mile was faster than tempo; my second was around 8 minutes because I forced myself to slow down; my third was again faster than tempo; then, my fourth and fifth were eight and nine minutes.

I did a tempo run while my dad rode his bike beside me to help get my times.  I was planning 3, 2, 1 with a 3 minute recovery, but it changed. My time was supposed to be 7:44. My first one I felt great (6:19).  My second mile, though I began to feel a little sick half way through (7:29).  After that I stopped for three minutes and decided to do 2, 2, 1.  My next one I felt good again (6:19).  The next one was a little difficult, but I felt pretty good (6:40).  I had a 3 minute recovery, then one last mile that I went all out for (6:33).  After that I did a mile recovery (13:05) which was VERY slow and felt VERY good.

I atempted a tempo and it was pouring rain very badly.  It was similar to the Ogden, just cold.  I tried pretty hard, but it wasn't very fast and I was soaked.  I think three felt fast, but weren't actually times for fast.  The other two I was struggling to move because I was very cold.  I was excited to get home and warm up.
