Personal:

When I was young, I ran local fun runs with my family, but nothing more. I watched my dad, mom, and 2 older brothers begin running and decided to try it out. During the spring of 6th grade, I ran 3 miles a couple times a week with my dad and have loved running ever since. I ran local 5ks and even a half marathon. In 7th grade I watched Conner, my older brother, run cross country and decided that I wanted to try it.

High School: Really enjoyed it all so much, grateful for all of the friendships I made while doing it. There were ups and downs, but it was a wonderful experience!

I enjoy running, playing piano, painting, skiing, and hiking. Life is totally worth living. Running my favorite meditation. I ran for Sky View High School. I served a mission in the Adriatic North Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Not yet sure what my plans are with running these next few month, but I am looking forward to an exciting future!

We warmed up about 3/4 a mile.  Then, we did 30 seconds at I pace with 30 seconds recovery twice.  After that we did 15 seconds at R pace with 15 second recovery five times.  The entire time we kept pushing eachother instead of actually going the correct pace.  I felt really great and the last one I went all out just for fun.  Then we jogged a half mile recovery.

We jogged around about 1.5 miles and part way through we did 2 long striders and at the end we did 2 shorter striders.  I wasn't feeling super great during the striders for some reason (I think I was nervous).  Then Coach talked to us about state.

State!  All day I was freaking out because I was so nervous which is a bad thing.  When we got there we relaxed which was the only thing I couldn't do.  Finally we began warming up.  I brought my iPod to help me mentally get in the right phase.  As we warmed up I was so tense!  I should have relaxed more.  We warmed up about 2 miles.  While doing my leg swings I was still not in the right phase and trying to get into it.  I may have been psyced out a bit because it was state.  Then we got to the starting line.  I thought it was a race where you start, but NO, they have a minute of silence which freaked me out!  I wanted to start NOW!  I feel as if I do better at the races where they just say "go!" and you go.

When they shot the gun I put my eyes on the end of the funnel and sprinted.  I did get boxed in a little, but it didn't affect badly.  After a couple meters past the funnel I felt somebody trip on the back of my shoe  which untied it.  Later on I found out it was Miranda and I felt so bad.  I just kept going up the hill.  I was still feeling nervous which was weird.  I think I was in the top 20 to 30.  As we went on that flat spot quite a few girls passed me, then going down the steep hill I couldn't catch my breath.  I was breathing VERY hard.  Then, before the hill I just didn't feel good (probably from nerves).  I tried to go up the hill fast, but I couldn't.  When I got to the top I tried to speed up again and I crossed the one mile mark.  A bunch of people had passed me by now and I wanted to give up.  It was all mental.  The race continued and I feel as if I didn't do very well.  I felt so sick, also, at one point I told myself I'd just go to the side and throw up.  The last 800meters I started to actually feel a bit better and I sped up knowing this was my last chance to get a better time.  My last 200 meters I felt much more amazing and passed a couple of girls which I am happy about because my sprint was actually good.

Afterwards, while watching Conner's amazing race, I did a two mile cool down where I began to feel better.  I wish I ran my race feeling how I did at the time.

Overall I had a good start, terrible middle, and pretty descent end.  My goal was sub-twenty which I didn't get by 13 seconds!  I was mainly really mad at myself because my time was just a bit slower than tempo.  Now that I think about it, it was my freshman year and I three more years.  I was pretty hard on myself about that. Our team did pretty well, we got 7th which is much better than last year.

I'm pretty sad the season's over, but I'm excited for next year and now I'm going to train for Foot Locker Regionals.

So, this entire run all I thought about was State and I kept pushing myself to go harder because I wasn't very happy about it. I also wasn't hurting at all, which also I wasn't happy about.  My first mile was faster than tempo; my second was around 8 minutes because I forced myself to slow down; my third was again faster than tempo; then, my fourth and fifth were eight and nine minutes.

I did 8 miles to get a long in.  My first seven were around eight minute pace.  The seventh mile I had to push to get the time.  My last mile was about 9 minutes.  I felt much better.

I did a tempo run while my dad rode his bike beside me to help get my times.  I was planning 3, 2, 1 with a 3 minute recovery, but it changed. My time was supposed to be 7:44. My first one I felt great (6:19).  My second mile, though I began to feel a little sick half way through (7:29).  After that I stopped for three minutes and decided to do 2, 2, 1.  My next one I felt good again (6:19).  The next one was a little difficult, but I felt pretty good (6:40).  I had a 3 minute recovery, then one last mile that I went all out for (6:33).  After that I did a mile recovery (13:05) which was VERY slow and felt VERY good.
