Personal:

When I was young, I ran local fun runs with my family, but nothing more. I watched my dad, mom, and 2 older brothers begin running and decided to try it out. During the spring of 6th grade, I ran 3 miles a couple times a week with my dad and have loved running ever since. I ran local 5ks and even a half marathon. In 7th grade I watched Conner, my older brother, run cross country and decided that I wanted to try it.

High School: Really enjoyed it all so much, grateful for all of the friendships I made while doing it. There were ups and downs, but it was a wonderful experience!

I enjoy running, playing piano, painting, skiing, and hiking. Life is totally worth living. Running my favorite meditation. I ran for Sky View High School. I served a mission in the Adriatic North Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Not yet sure what my plans are with running these next few month, but I am looking forward to an exciting future!

Did my first indoor running since last year because it had been below freezing all day.  I hadn't ran on a treadmill in a long time and I went really fast on it (to me).  It was a lot of speed work, I guess.  Treadmills aren't my favorite thing to run on mentally and it was really dry in the room.  After four miles I went into the gym to do a bunch of laps.  I kept having to stop to go get a drink because it was really dry and hard to breathe.  I didn't count my laps, so I estimated on my mileage.  It's proboally more.

It was really cold and I didn't want to run because I'm starting to get a cold, but I thought I should get some more miles in. The run was mainly slippery and my feet would slip out from under me every single step.

Slow milesFast milesTotal Distance
3.003.006.00

Did six miles.  It was 19 degrees when I left, so it was warmer, but it was still cold.  I felt good, but my time was slower than what I wish it would be.

Three miles inside.  Two on the tredmill and one running laps.  It's so dry inside but it's so cold outside.  I can't wait for it to get warm outside.  I had a cold all last week so it was pretty tough to get myself to go running.

Slow milesFast milesTotal Distance
2.003.005.00

Went outside again.  It was really cold!  At some points I was jumping from dry road to dry road because I didn't want to slip on the snow.

4 miles.  I felt really good until the last mile.

I went skiing for the first time and I was hurting a lot when I came home.  I asked my dad if he wanted to go running with me in the fog and he wasn't planning to go that day, but I motivated him.  I was in a lot of pain when we started and it was really slushy, but it was totally worth it.

Slow milesFast milesTotal Distance
0.003.003.00

I had a really tight schedule, so I went a fast 3 to get some miles in. When I left, I checked the temperature which was 27 degrees. I felt really motivated to go fast because of the temperature, even though it was all snowy.  It was one of my fastest runs all winter season in the snow.

Slow milesFast milesTotal Distance
2.401.003.40

Mentally, I didn't want to go, but I did anyways.  It was supposedly 27 degrees outside, but the sun was going down, so I think it was lower.  My first mile was fast, but I kept slipping on all the ice and snow.  Gladly, I didn't fall, but I slowed down so I wouldn't.

Slow milesFast milesTotal Distance
4.000.004.00

4 very slow miles.  The entire time my feet were slipping from under me out in the slippery snow and slush. I wasn't feeling the greatest. I can't wait for summer weather!

Just did three.  My first mile was a bit faster, but it was pretty wet and my shoes were soaked from the puddles.

Slow milesFast milesTotal Distance

It was 37 degrees outside when I got home from school, so I got ready to run as fast as I could.  I was very excited because it was SUPER nice outside and I could never miss a day like this.  I had a blast during my run.  It was really wet because all the snow and slush was melting so the roads were puddles everywhere.  I was soaked most of the run, but I was so happy and so excited to run, I didn't care.  I kind of wish I went further because it was a perfect day outside.

Slow milesFast milesTotal Distance
1.007.008.00

I really hoped it would be as nice as yesterday, but it was in the high twenties when I went.  I ran with my dad who got me to go further.  We had a lot of fun and the roads were pretty nice.  It wasn't that cold outside as we ran and I started to get too hot.  It was a lot of fun and afterwards we did a mile cool down that was slow, but fun.

I really didn't want to go running today, but when my dad got home from work he convinced me to.  It was beginning to get dark when we left and I really love night running or early morning running and I haven't done it in a long time so I was really excited.  He said we were going to do a "slow" run, but we ended up going fast. It was warm and I kind of got a little hot closer to the end.  I felt really great, my time was 22:00 which is a minute longer than my PR so I was pretty happy.

Because I didn't get a chance to run very much last Saturday, I did my long run today.  It really messed up my mileage, but I'll try to keep it back up again.  I didn't feel so great because I did it alone, but atleast I got it done.

Felt pretty good, but because of yesterday I didn't want to go very far.  My shoes were giving me blisters and they have for the last couple months so I would use athletic tape which worked for a while.  It wasn't working so that evening my dad and I went to Al's and got some new shoes and my own running socks which I am very excited about.

I did four, then came home and brought my dog, Ruby, on a "cool down."  Ever since its been getting warmer I'll bring her for a mile.  She's a Jack Russell Chihuahua.  She used to be really slow, but she's getting much faster.  It's really funny because she'll go fast at certain areas and slow at others.  The first half a mile she does in about five minutes and the next thing I know she begins sprinting and we get under a six minute mile pace. Because the end is so fast its not really much of a cool down anymore.  I'm also really liking my new shoes.

Started getting ready for XC which I'm SO excited for.  We're starting this thing where we train in the mornings before school.  It was a lot of fun even though we didn't go very far.  I didn't push it too hard, but because I was so excited and so pumped I think I was going pretty fast.  I'm so excited for this fall when I actually get to run.  I'm just going to run in the mornings only for a couple weeks on these days, and then I'll run in the afternoons when I get used to it.

Did ten with my dad.  It was a really hot afternoon, but it was still a lot of fun.  I thought I had broken my new shoes in enough, but the bottom of my feet felt really weird going uphill which made our time slow down quite a bit.  When we began going downhill we sped up so much.  It was hot, but the heat is so much more better than the cold. I forgot to mention that I'm training for the Ogden Half Marathon which is in a couple of weeks.

Ran with my dad today instead of Saturday because I wouldn't have time then.  I was super pumped up before and we started with really two miles at first, but then my feet began to hurt.  I still don't think my shoes are broken in, but my dad says I need new shoes which I don't want to worry about because I really love my new shoes.  After about two miles my feet didn't hurt as bad and I tried to go faster.  It was really weird because I had all this energy as if I could go as fast as I wanted, but my feet hurt and it was hard to go.  When we began going downhill I got going faster.  I felt really good afterwards.  It was a lot of fun!

Did the Little Ugly at school.  It was a lot of fun.  I just kept at a pretty constant pace  with short steps.  I was one of the few who didn't walk up at all.  We stopped about a third the way up and waited for everybody else to get up.  After a while, we began going down and because it's gravel, I didn't want to slip so I went slowly.  When we got to the end of the gravel road and onto the street, I began sprinting down the hill because I wasn't worried about slipping. I didn't really feel any burn the rest of the day because I'm used to going up hills already.  I can't wait to do the big ugly.

Woke up and ran the Health Days 5K.  I really wanted to get first overall in womens because last year I got second and the year before I got fourth.  Conner offered to pace me which is why he is one of the best older brothers ever.  I was pretty nervous because I wanted to PR and place first.  When it started I was planning to go slow, but I went faster than I had expected.  We were going up the canyon and around mile 1 my calves started hurting, but I kept pushing it.  When I got to the turn around point, my calves were burning, but I wanted to keep up with Conner.  Down the hill felt pretty good, except for my calves.  I didn't get a PR, but I still did win fisrt girl which made me really happy.

After awards and everybody began leaving, I ran home slowly because I needed to get my long run in.  I took some detours to make it three more miles.  When I got home I asked my dad if I could run with him to the parade.  We ran four miles down their and I kept up with him pretty well because he wanted a certain average pace which was faster than I expected.  I had a really fun running day because I just ran wherever I needed to go which was different, but a lot of fun.

It was very wet.  It rained the entire time.  Before it started, I didn't get much of a warm-up in because I didn't want to get very wet and it was pretty crowded. I wore plastic bags on my shoes, a sweatshirt and pajama pants until we had to drop our bags.  After I dropped my bag, I put on a garbage bag to keep from getting too wet before the start.  The start was a little unsure, but luckily it was chip time.  Right before I crossed the start line I took off my garbage bag.

I passed so many people at the beginning and for a while I thought I might have been going a little too fast, but I felt like I was going at a good pace.  Whenever we came up to a longer downhill (and there were a lot of those) I would let my stride get really long which would make me go super fast down the hill and pass so many people.  Whenever I came to a longer uphill I would shorten my stride and make my feet closer to the ground which also made me pass a lot of people.  That was my main strategy to go fast on up and downhills and go at a good pace when it was flat.

Around mile 3 I saw this kid and I thought I should just hang by him because that usually motivates me.  I just kept running and getting wet.  It wasn't too cold while I was running, it was just wet.  The canyon was really pretty, though.  I had fun watching the scenery (sort of).  Around mile 10 the kid went faster and I couldn't keep up with him because I was tired and there were a lot of bumps which I am not used to at all.  When I turned the street which I knew was the finish line I started to sprint because I knew it was right there, I was excited to finish, and I always enjoy sprinting to pass a bunch of people.  The weird thing was that the finish wasn't as big as it usually was (probably because of the rain).  I couldn't read the banner over head until I was much closer.  Before I crossed the line I look over at the finish which said 1:09 and I realized I looked at the marathon time.  I hurried and caught a glimpse of the half which was 1:38 and I was psyched.  I crossed the finish!

I was soaking wet and cold! I got my medal and got a chocolate milk.  Once I found  my family I grabbed my drop bag and we hurried to the car to drive down to BYU where Conner was going to run at state which I really wanted to watch.  I was super happy with my time finding out I really got 1:37:34 and getting first in my age group which was 13-18!  I was so happy.

Accidentally, we ran the entire way up.  There truly is nothing little or pretty about the Big Ugly. It was fun because the entire way up I just kept a good slow pace which made me go faster because it is so long and steep.  On the way down we just relaxed and went super fast which was kind of scary because it's a dirt road. Afterwards, my calves kind of hurt, but it was good pain so I was glad.

I was really excited to run the Big Ugly (again).  There were more kids from Sky View which made me even more excited.  We started out at a good pace until we got to the hill where everybody of course slows down.  As I went up the hill I felt pretty good although I was alone most of the time. I kept at a good short stride, but I pumped my arms quickly.  The only person who passed me up the hill was Coach Wright which also made me happy.  When I got to the top, there was water, but it was placed differently which made me have to stop to get it.  I probably shouldn't have stopped, but you can't say no to water.  When I turned around I just relaxed and sped up.  When  I turned the corner and could see the finish I just sprinted as fast as I could for fun because there was nobody to pass.  It was a lot of fun and I got first girl because most of the girls were doing it for a work out.  I don't know what my time was, but that's okay because it was probably slow which means I don't want to know it.

Today was my first actual day running with the cross country team and I was so excited!  I woke Conner up 15 minutes before we had to leave which I don't think he was too happy with.  When we got there everybody had already stretched.  I did some quick ones which was a mistake.  We didn't do any warming up, either.  We did some hills which I was excited for.  When we started up 6th South I was going at an easy pace trying to just stay back with the girls, but it felt as if they were going too slow, so I sped up.  When we got to about 2 miles my calves began to hurt because I didn't stretch.  I slowed down a bit.  Because my calves hurt and I didn't want them to hurt any more, I didn't go the long way which was only a mile longer.  When we started getting to the school, I saw this big group of girls running and I thought I had gone the wrong way, but I knew where I had gone was the right way.  Turns out they were the soccer girls.  Afterwards we did core, which didn't hurt because I do planks and other workouts, but the workouts were really different.  It was a lot of fun and I'm SO excited for cross country this fall!!!

Did the Utah Valley Half Marathon.  Woke up around 2:30 and got ready.  At 3:00 my cousins picked me up because two of them were doing the full and one was doing the half which meant I wouldn't be alone at the start.  It was perfect temperature outside before it started.  I was further in the back when it started because it was so crowded!  When I started off I felt as if I was going too fast, but I didn't want to slow down.  I just continued running pretty much the rest of the time.  I got water at almost every station because my throat kept getting sort of dry.  Once when I went to get water, I accidentally tipped it all over a lady because she was holding it wrong and I felt really bad.  The water people (volunteers) need to learn to hold the rim, not just place it on top of your hand which is why I tipped it.  I did the same thing to a lady at the Ogden Half with Gatorade, too.  Towards the end (maybe mile 9 or 10), I was going and so many people were passing me!  I was trying to go as fast as possible, but people were still passing me!  Usually that mentally messes me up and it really did.  When I got to the road where you can see the finish for two miles many more people began passing me!  Later on I found out they were part of the 10K.  I tried to sprint, but it didn't feel as if I was going any faster.

My time was 1:39:41 whiched didn't surprise me because I didn't think I'd beat my Ogden Half time.  It was only two minutes slower, though.  I had a lot of fun!  I got first in my age group and pretty much slaughtered my record by about eight minutes.  Last year I did by about ten minutes, so I hope I keep the record for 14 and under for quite a while.

Did a mile warm up, then we did a mile as fast as we could to get a VDOT number.  I haven't been going for speed much this year because of the half marathons, so my time wasn't as fast as I wished I'd gotten.  My time was 6:26.  Afterwards some of the girls and I did a mile cool down.  It was fun, but it wasn't as fast as I would like.

Because I had gotten my VDOT number I wanted to try a TEMPO run.  My watch broke during Spring Break, so I had to use an iPod.  I really enjoy using the iPod nanos that aren't touch screen.  The only problem was the iPod didn't have enough battery.  I ignored it and thought the battery might last.  Right before I finished my last mile my music turned off! I wasn't very happy that I didn't  even get one mile timed.  Because I couldn't time myself, my entire run got thrown off and I just went slow.  It was nice to go slow, even though I wasn't supposed to, but oh well.

For cross country we started out doing a warm up.  Then we did a TEMPO run.  At first I felt really good.  I was going to stay with Ralee Eck who was going a 7:30 pace.  Then Kaitlin and Riley were going faster so I went up with them.  Our first mile was 6:18! That was my fastest mile all year!  I was so surprised because I was only supposed to go a 7:25 pace.  They went ahead of me at the turn around.  I mentally can't go on long straight roads well and this street that we went on was like that.  I just kept running and tried to wave to everybody going the opposite way because I love waving to people even though it does slow you down.  When I finished Conner told me my pace was 7:23 and I was super happy because I thought it was supposed to be 7:35, but it really was supposed to be 7:25.  I still kept the correct pace which was good. After that Kaitlin, Riley, Ralee, and I went on a longer cool down than everybody else. When we got back everybody was doing core workouts. We didn't get much core workouts in, but it was really fun.

Well, I was pretty pumped and excited for this race, but it didn't turn out the way I wanted or expected it to turn out.  I started out way fast, my first mile was 6:38, my second was 6:59, and then my third slowed down to 7:34.  I felt very good at the beginning, but after mile three I began struggling because I couldn't keep up with anybody and I was beginning to get a slight head ache.  I just kept running and at the couple of water stops I got water while running, but didn't drink very much.  At one point I felt like throwing up and it really mentally messed me up with this run.  The last mile I kept sprinting because I thought I saw the finish line, but then it would seem a little bit further which would repeat over and over to me.  That last mile was pretty tough and it didn't help that I couldn't do any final sprint and pass a couple of people the last second.  I did get third in my age group which is pretty good.  I really didn't feel so great the rest of the day, but everybody has their bad days.

Wednesday- XC camp

This morning we went on a trail run which was a lot of fun, but difficult because I normally don't do. I stayed with the girls the entire time and we took it easy. I had a small scab on my ankle that came off which didn't hurt, but it was really bloody so I was running with a very bloody ankle.  We ran through a lot of grass which made all of our legs itch, a LOT.  Afterwards, we went home and came back with all of our stuff.

That afternoon we went on another trail run with the Juab xc team in Nephi which was where we stayed.  It was kind of hot and we were very tired which wasn't helpful.  We went up the hill for twenty minutes only getting in two miles and then we were supposed to turn around.  We were going very slow.  Around the last half mile the downhill was super tempting to sprint down, so I did, leaving everybody.  It was a lot of fun, but I almost tripped at the very end.  It was a super fun trail run, only if we hadn't been so tired.

Thursday- XC camp

That morning we went on a ride and run where we ride bikes and run with a team. I started out on the bike and brought my water bottle with me.  We were worried we'd go the wrong way on the course, so at the beginning my team stayed together and I was going super slow and easy on the bike.  When I got off the bike and began running my teammate, Ethan, got on the bike.  After a while, we were unsure about our other teammate, Trevor, how far behind he was, so Ethan road back and gave Trevor the bike.  Ethan ran and caught up with me.  We continued running for a couple miles until Trevor passed us and I hopped on the bike.  Ethan said I should ride for about ten minutes, but I only road for eight because I went pretty fast and I had caught up with the coaches.  I ran with the coaches for quite a while and chatted with them.  They slowed down after a while and I tried to catch up with a pack of people.  When there was a mile left, I slow down, a TON.  I think my body just didn't want to run or something so I went easy then.  It was so much fun when we were over with it, though.  I actually am not sure on how far I went, but it was 10.9 total miles and I felt like I ran around 8.

After breakfast we went to a body building place and did a core workout. Audrey and I didn't wear our shoes because we didn't bring them which I don't think the instructor was very happy with.  It was fun and different.  There's nothing wrong with it that afternoon.  Later in the weekend my abs didn't hurt, but my thighs hurt a little and my shoulder's hurt a ton.

Friday-XC camp

This morning we went on another trail run.  We went through a canyon to a certain highway.  We were going pretty slow at first, but the fast people began speeding up and getting way in front of me.  I just kept jogging.  After a while Audrey and Riley stopped to walk and I caught up to them.  When we got to a really steep hill the two walked up and I continued jogging up.  I was alone for quite a while trying to catch up to Alex and Jesse, but they were going too fast for me.  I just kept going by following the hot pink ribbon and yellow spray paint the coaches put out for us to know the correct direction to run in.  I noticed Katelyn and tried to catch up to her.  She slowed down and I finally caught up to her.  We both went pretty easy.  There were some super steep hills that we had to go down, so we walked and slid on our butts down those and ran everywhere else.  Audrey and Riley caught up to us.  After a while we just were having fun and not making it much of a serious run.  We were ready to finish because we were sore from the core workout yesterday.  When we could hear the highway, we just began sprinting down the hill.  It turned out to be a fun run, except we didn't exactly know how far we had gone or how much we had left, so it was a little difficult because it turned out to be seven miles.

That night we went on an easy run around Nephi where Coach Wright showed us some of "the sights." We were loosening up for the race tomorrow. It was super easy and fun.  It was probably two miles and we did some stretches to loosen up.

Friday- XC camp

Today was the last day of camp which means we got to do a race! My goal was sub 24 minutes because I was so sore.  The entire run I stayed with Carly and Katelyn.  It was really nice because we were next to each other, but at some points one of us would speed up and we'd speed up to catch up with the other person.  When we got to the water station Carly wanted Coach Wright to throw water on us, and I'd never tried that so I wanted to see if it would help.  Right when he did that, a man in a truck drove by, probably thinking Coach was some random dude throwing water on a bunch of girls by the way he looked at us which was hilarious.  At the end I was starting to get tired, but I stayed with Carly and Katelyn, still.  At the very end Carly began sprinting and I couldn't keep up with her, so I stayed with Katelyn until the last couple feet and I leaned forward and barely beat her.  I felt good after, because I realized I hadn't felt any pain from this last weekend during the run.  I got first in my age group which was 13-14, I think.  I'm glad it was a fun run because it was fun.

Later we drove home from camp.  It was so much fun and I think I got to know the rest of the team much better. :)

Today we did sunnyside at xc.  Conner and I got there a little late so we were trying to catch up to everybody.  I thought it was a warm up when we did because everybody seemed to be going slow.  Turns out the girls wanted the boys to be behind them for a mile or something like that which was pretty funny.  After the boys passed us we seemed to be going much faster.  When we got to the part of the canyon where you could keep going up or go down, I wanted to go up.  Riley ran up with me while everybody else turned to go down.  We chatted as we went up.  At one point we passed the faster boys and they cheered for us which was pretty funny.  We kept going and we were a little behind the coaches, so we turned around where they did.  It was a super fun run and I felt way good for just getting back from camp.

Conner had promised me he was going to pace me for a sub-six minute mile for quite a while, and today I finally got him to do that.  My mom also bought me some really nice flats that were on sale for $20 this last spring and Conner helped her pick out the right pair.  I hadn't ever used them and he said it would help my time.  We drove down to the track and did a half mile warm up.  Then I put my flats on and stretched.

During the mile I was pushing it really hard and a little too hard at the beginning.  At some points I wanted to just give up and go slow, but Conner kept me going.  I got around a 6:02 which was a PR, but not what I exactly wanted.  I was still happy, though.

Afterwards, I went on a nice cool down/jog.  As I was going around the track, Conner was doing mile repeats or something like that.  About half a mile in, the football boys came onto the field and I knew some of them.  I thought I'd just do 3 or so, but then I got the idea to just run home.  After a mile and a half, I told Conner what I was going to do and did it.  On my run home, I went super slow because it was really muggy and I just wasn't feeling like going very fast.  I had fun, though, running with my older brother.

So today was a speed day at xc.  We did a small warm up and then went to the track.  Coach had us do 600's interval pace, then a 200 recovery 6 times.  I accidentally was looking at my rep pace on the cards and I made my time that I was supposed to get much faster.  The first time around wasn't that bad.  I tried to stay with Riley almost the entire time.  The second I wasn't feeling as if I was getting enought of a recovery.  The third is when it began to really hurt.  My times had gotten much slower.  The fourth time around I couldn't catch up to Riley and we passed the coach who told me to relax my upper body and make my breathing less deep.  I did that, but my form was a little wrong because I relaxed my arms instead of pumping them super hard.  The fifth time I felt not very great and the final time I went all out and felt like dieing.  At the very last sprint Amber started to pass me, so I began sprinting as fast as I could and barely beat her.  We did a cool down which felt amazing and then did some hip and core workouts.  I compared my times and my fastest was 20 seconds different from my slowest which I thought was well until Conner told me that wasn't very great.  I know I really need to work on my sprinting, and I'm trying pretty hard, but I don't want to peak early or mess my times up, so I try to do speed only once or twice week.  It was a hard, but fun run.

For xc we did golf course.  We started out nicely and just kept going at a nice pace.  We mainly just chatted during our run.  While we were going down the canyon the sun was at a perfect angle and all of us girls were lined up across the road as we ran.  Our shadow would have been such a cool picture.  As we were running Riley and I were on the ends and we both would speed up making everybody else go faster.  I didn't really notice this until Carly pointed it out.  At the very end we all went out in a sprint which was so much fun.

My dad and I went on a longer run.  We went up the canyon and my dad had already gone on a run with Conner, so he was pretty worn out.  I was a couple feet ahead of him until mile 3 which is where I tend to get tired up the canyon.  Mile 3 to 4 was pretty slow, but when we turned around I sped up.  I felt pretty good during that run and it was a lot of fun going with my dad.

Started out with a mile warm up, then did the hill called 'Beast'. We went up it as fast as we could, then slowly jogged down.  I did it around 6 times.  It was easy the first couple, then got really hard.  The fifth time was super hard.  We took a small break, then ran up it a sixth time just for fun.  I realized while doing this workout that if you start out easier, you'll have enough extra energy for the last part to sprint.  I'm not very fast at it, but I think if I'll work on hills, I can get faster.  Afterwards, we did a cool down another mile.

Right before I began running, I didn't really know what I was going to do.  I started out at a pretty good pace and felt really good.  After about half a mile, I thought I might as well do a tempo run which was a smart idea.  My first mile was 7:15 and I thought if I want to keep a good pace I would have to push it to keep myself.  My second mile was 7:06 which really surprized me because normally my second mile is super slow compared to my first.  I kept pushing it and my last mile was 7:13.  I was very happy with my time because my tempo pace is supposed to be 7:23 and I'm not a person who keeps a very even pace.  I then did a mile cool down.

For our work out we did a two mile loop up the Beast and a couple of other hills.  We were supposed to go up the hills as fast as possible and then go easy everywhere else.  I started way to fast.  I was trying to keep up with the lead pack, but I was so tired and I couldn't.  Coach Stores told me I should probably hold back and maybe just stop.  I really wanted to keep going, but I listened to Coach.  I sat on the curb and realized I did not feel good.  Once Coach Wright came past me he told me I should just take the next couple days off and cool down back to the school.  Another girl had a knot in her leg, so we both went easy back nice and easy.  I really regret not talking to Coach before we ran about taking a break, but I wasn't really thinking.

I was really excited to run today.  At xc we were supposed to do a tempo, but nobody else was except for people much faster than me, so I just went easy with a group of people who had also taken this last week off.  We mostly chatted while running.  It was a lot of fun, but I wish I had done a tempo instead.

Around 4:00 I felt like I should do an actual tempo, so I went on a run.  I was actually doing pretty well, even though it was pretty hot. My first mile was a second faster than was I had to do. My throat began feeling a little dry, but I didn't think much about it.  When I turned around a 1.5 miles, I just felt the heat rush through me.  I continued to go at the pace for only a couple meters and I had to slow down.  After a while I felt as if I really needed to stop which meant I felt horrible.  I began running again and cut half a mile out of my run by taking a short cut.  I regretted my run, but I got more miles in.

So because I felt so bad about my run yesterday, I decided to go for a long, but not too long of a run.  I felt really good the entire time.  My goal was to keep an 8 minute pace which is kind of slow, but I pushed to keep the correct pace which is really what I want to work on.  I went 5 miles at first and when I came home, I felt so good I got my little brother, Nathan, to go on a mile cool down with me.  I had to promise him I'd buy him two treats at dollar tree, but it got him to run.  Our mile was 9 minutes which he did awesome at.

So, I was really nervous for this race, even though it was only with the team, because it was my first race on a xc course and it decided whether you were on varsity or not.  Conner told me I should use my new flats, so I did. I warmed up with Carly because I had no clue on what to do.  When we started we went around the track and as we were almost to the gate to get off the track Coach Wright began running to open the gate which wasn't open.  That first part was mainly a sprint which was different.  I passed a couple of people and I could see the lead pack the entire time, but I wasn't up in it.  After the first time passing the canal, Carly began to slow down and I caught up with her.  I felt bad for her because she hadn't ran at all this past week. I passed her and just kept going.  It was really hard to catch up to the leaders, which I never did, but I just kept running.  This was my first time actually doing the course, so I was glad I wasn't in the front or I'd get lost.  The last time passing the canal, I couldn't hear Carly and I had heard her the entire time since I'd passed her and the first thing I though was 'Carly died' sadly because I wanted somebody who could help me sprint at the end.   When I got to the final sprint I got a little closer to Megan who was in the lead pack, but it wasn't very close.  I finished with a time of 21:31 which I was happy about.  I got fifth on varsity and afterwards all the girls were hugging each other which was new to me, so I just hugged along.

After yesterday, I decided to do a nice and easy four mile run.  I simply kept it under 8:30 minute miles.  It felt pretty good and I had a nice fun run.

So, today at practice was a speed work day.  We did a warm up to understand where we were supposed to go.  We were supposed to do a 1000 at a certain pace which I wasn't sure what it was because I just stuck with the fast girls.  After the 1000, we were supposed to slowly jog back to where we started for a 3 minute recovery.  The girls had to do that atleast six times.  The first two times were a little fast, so Coach told us to try to get that time that we were now getting.  The next two times were a little difficult and the fifth time was really tough.  I was still kind of feeling good enough to do one more, just not as fast, so we did one more, but I stayed behind. I felt really tired afterwards, but it was a nice workout.

So in the morning I went on a easy five mile run with a couple of the girls on the xc team up the canyon.  I stayed kind of further back with another girl and we just had fun talking.  When we got to the top, Amber's mom drove up with all our bikes (and helmets) and we rode down.  It was a lot of fun and felt really good.

That afternoon I really felt like doing another run, so when it got really hot I went on an easy three mile run.  The first mile was almost all downhill, so it was faster than what I expected, but I had fun.

So, we did a half mile warm up at practice.  After that we were told to do a tempo run to go 3, 2, then 1 mile.  We started out on our first three mile tempo going for about a seven minute mile pace. I stayed with Katelyn and Rilee and we were going a little bit faster.  At the very end I felt like sprinting, so I did.  Afterwards, we were super tired and we took a little longer break which was only supposed to be three minutes.  We weren't feeling much for another two miles, so we just did a one.  I felt pretty good until the end and I couldn't keep up and it was a little slow.  We took another break, then went one more mile which was right on.  After that, we went on a cool down back to the school.  It was fun, and hard at the same time.

So, this morning I did an activity where we walked 8.3 miles.  Because we were walking, I didn't feel like I had gotten much of  a workout in and Coach wanted us to do a long and easy run.  I was planning on doing an eight at first, but Conner told me I should do a five because of this morning.  I did a very easy five and it was fun and exhausting because I didn't really eat much that day and I kind of did a half marathon with a lot of breaks and walking if you added everything I did today.  I am not counting those miles, because I did walk them.

Because we have a meet tomorrow, we were supposed to go very easy at practice.  I stayed with Danella, and we did about ten minute miles.  After the first mile where we ran to Mack Park and did about six striders.  I don't think I did the striders correctly, but I attempted. We ran back to the school and got in another mile.  It was very easy and it was hot outside, too.

So, today was our first big meet of the season! I was so excited and nervous that entire day, but it didn't help much because it was the first day of school.  I didn't get much of a chance to hidrate that day, which I think wasn't smart.  We did all sorts of stretches and warm ups before we ran.  Fifteen minutes before it started, we did about a .8 mile warm up.  I was wearing my flats when we did the warm up.  I got really nervous when we were beginning to line up because I had no idea how to sprint at the beginning.  The girls were awesome by encouraging me and telling what to and not to do.  We started out after the gunshot and I felt as if I couldn't go very fast because there were so many people, but the gun went off a second time and I looked back and everybody behind me was stopping, but somebody yelled to keep going and I was so confused.  It was a false start because somebody fell and we walked back to the start line. That got my nerves out so much and I was very far back and I was kind of happy that it was a false start.

When we started out again, I think I was further up than last time.  Many girls were shoving and every time I touched somebody I said 'sorry' because I felt so bad and didn't want to shove anybody.  After that first sprint I couldn't pass anybody because it was so crowded, but they were going too slow! At one point it was half road and half grass and once I got on the road it was hard to get back onto the grass.  A little after that it was a straight run and I passed what felt like 25 people because I went further to the side on the path.  Then, we went down the hill and I just let my legs go which I was going a little too fast to turn, but I made it. I heard so many people yelling my name, but I didn't recognize them because there must have been another Claire running the race. There is a little hill that's really steep after that and I just booked it up because I felt so good.  After that was mile one which was a little under 6:30.  For me that was pretty fast.  The rest of it wasn't as specific, but my next mile I passed quite a few people and it was about 6:45, I think.  I could see a bunch of girls on my team were around me, but we were going back and forth with being next to eachother.  That last mile was really tough.  A little after I passed the two mile point, I tried to swallow, but I could'nt!  There was a little dry spot in the back of my throat that kind of burned.  That last time we went around the lake it was really tough and a bunch of people passed me.  When we crossed the bridge and went around that last bend, I could'nt sprint! I tried to, but it didn't work out very well, and the last stetch a couple people passed me.

While we were in line all the girls in our team were hugging eachother and that is one reason I love our team.  I was so tired.  There wasn't any water and I was freaking out because that was all I wanted was water. Finally, we all walked back to our hang out area where we had water and I was feeling much better.  I was really happy with my race, but Conner was telling me I needed to think about what I had done wrong and I think I really needed to highdrate.  I was still happy and I felt good about it.

So, today was our first practice after school.  Us freshman rode on the bus to Sky View and we changed as quick as we could.  We were told to meet outside where we normally did and we were kind of confused.  We found out that we were supposed to meet somewhere else and we did warmups with the team in one of the gyms.  The coaches gave us a little speech which got me a little overwhelmed about the season, but I'm still excited.  For today we went easy to a point to do a tempo run.  Coach wanted us to do a 2 three times tempo with a couple minute recovery.  Us girls decided to go for a 7 minute pace and we kept together very well the first one which was really fun and easy.  We did about a half mile jog to recover, then did another two miles.  The first mile was pretty easy, but the second mile was really tough and it seemed to never end.  A group of us sped up ahead of everybody else and we were still about a minute slow for that mile.  We weren't feeling so great and it was really hot, so we jogged a mile back towards the school.  We did a mile instead of a two mile which was really tough for me.  We ended up doing a 2,2,1 tempo. Afterwards, we cooled down back to the school.  It was really tough, but fun at the same time.

I planned on doing a long and easy run, but I wanted to have a certain time to keep up with.  My goal was 8:31 and my dad planned on riding his bike up with me while I ran.  My first mile felt really good and I was going faster than I planned, but I tried to slow down.  My next miles were pretty good, but usaully a little faster than 8:30.  Once I got to six miles, I just wasn't feeling very good.  I decided to just keep it easy and not go for a certain time after that.  I really began to not feel good at last mile and I had to stop.  I tried to jog home with a couple of breaks because I felt like crap.  When I got home I took a hot shower and relaxed.  My first six miles were great, but my last ones weren't fun.

So, today we did a home meet.  I was pretty nervous because I didn't highdrate as much as I should have.  I put on my racing flats a little too early, also, which wasn't very smart because I warmed up a lot in them.  One of the schools was running a little late, so I warmed up twice.

When we started out I was feeling really good and I really liked how it was't as stressful as the Highland Meet last week.  After going around the track once, I was in third with a Boneville girl and Riley in front of me.  I thought I was going too fast, but I felt good so I kept that pace.  I really wanted to catch up to Riley, but I never did until the las 300 meters.  A little before the first mile I noticed my shoe was untied, but I just kept running hoping it wouldn't come off.  When I got to mile 2 I was still feeling really good, even though it was super hot.  I actually kind of liked the heat, because when I first started running I always ran in the heat and it brought back memories or something like that which made me happy and feeling good.  I actually dry heaved a little, but just kept going.  When I did get to the last 300, I caught up to Riley and attempted to pass her, but I couldn't which is something I regret.  I got passed by a Boneville girl that had been in back of me for quite some time.  I attempted to sprint which didn't do anything because I was going the same speed.  I felt really good about my race because my goal was to just get a course record which I did.  I'm actually unsure about my time, but my watch was 21:02 and I probably started it late.

So today was our first early morning practice and I was super tired.  Conner and I got there a little late which everybody was leaving.  I finally caught up to the girls and we ran and chatted the entire time.  We did Sunnyside and I had gone about half a mile up the canyon when I realized I'd better turn around because the freshman have to catch the bus to get to North Cache.  For some reason I began sprinting down the canyon which felt good, even though it wasn't very smart.  I slowed down and ran with a few of the freshman boys until we got to Sky View.

So, today was a really hot day and we were going to do a tempo run to Cedaridge about four miles.  It was NO shade which really made the run suck.  The girls started out and we were supposed to get faster each mile so our first mile was the perfect speed because it wasn't too hard, but not too easy either.  The second mile was a little harder.  Right after mile 2 a couple of us slowed down because it was so hot.  My third mile was around eight minutes and my last mile was more than ten.  I really didn't feel very great.  Afterwards we went and got ice cream which was fun.

We had an morning practice for those who weren't on vacation. We did a mile warm up and it was super rainy.  I was still feeling my cold which didn't help. I kind of had a headache when I began running.  Coach wanted us to do 30m sprints three times with a minute recovery.  I didn't feel anything after doing those.  Then we did three 800m with three minute recoveries.  My first two felt okay, I don't think they were as fast as they were supposed to be.  My last one was pretty slow.  The next thing we did was four 1000m with a minute recovery.  Those don't sound possible in the first place and because I was sick, it didn't help much either. My first one sucked becuase my throat began to make it hard to breath and it was pretty slow.  My second was forty seconds slow, third was 35 seconds slow, fourth was 22 seconds slow.  I was feeling so sick, but the entire time I was trying as hard as possible.  The positive thing was I did improve each time by a certain amount of time.  Right when I finished my calves had knots in them.  I did a half mile cool down.  When I got home I rolled my calves which made them feel much better.  I wasn't super thrilled about how well I did, but I tried my hardest.

This run today was much better compared to yesterday's and I wasn't sick anymore, so I was happy.  We started out with a mile warm up to Mack Park.  The girls were supposed to do a 1000m with a 1 minute recovery twice, then a 1200m tempo three times with a three minute recovery, but the first and last 200 each time were race pace.  Then a 1000 at the end.  I was hitting my times the entire time pretty well and I kept up with all the girls as well as I could.  My 200s were a couple seconds slow, but it was because those parts that we were sprinting at were a little difficult.  The 1000 at the end was super nice because it wasn't as hard as the 1200s.  I had a lot of fun and afterwards we played in the water.  When everybody was done we cooled down very slowly back to Sky View.

Today it was really hot outside and we did an easy long run.  The girls were going super slow and after the first half mile Audrey and I sped up a little leaving them.  We were all just jogging easy.  Audrey and I turned around after we got to the end of the trail that we ran on which was upper canal.  I thought we had gone further than four miles, but we had only done a little more that 3.7.  When we passed the other girls on our way back they told us to wait for them at a tire swing.  They played in the canal, but I didn't want to take off my shoes and put them on while my feet were wet so I sat there and watched them.  We began running again back to the school and we were going very slow and having fun chatting the entire time.  I didn't realize how thirsty I was until I actually got to the school.  It took us around two hours to do all that, but it was very fun and easy.

So today was an early run and again Conner and I were a little late, so we had to catch up.  I didn't catch up to the lead girls, but I just went nice and easy.  When we had gone around a mile and a half Coach talked to us about getting some speed in the day before a race.  We did these wierd things where every 10 seconds we get a little bit faster until we are sprinting, then we slow down.  The second one Coach said sprint and I thought he said to slow down, so I slowed down, but realized I was supposed to be going as fast as I could which didn't work.  We did those three times.  When we got back to the school we did this visualizing thing in the dark where we were supposed to relax, but I got a tickle in my throat part way through and was coughing/trying not to cough half the time.  It was a really fun early morning practice.

So, we drove down to Murray Park on the bus.  I really hadn't had it mentally for the last couple days that this race was serious and that I had better do well, which wasn't very good.  We warmed up quite a bit.  We did a little bit of speed that I wasn't going very fast on, even though I was trying to.  I had to throw on my flats and do my static stretching quick because we had warmed up and lost track of when we were running.

I was really nervous because I had no idea what to expect.  There was one false start which I wasn't too happy about, but I didn't have a good start either, so it was okay.  When we actually started I was going as fast as I could, but I got boxed in.  I tried to pass as many people as possible because I could see the pack of the rest of the Sky View girls, I just couldn't catch up to them.  When we went through the baseball diamond I passed so many people because I got on the far side.  When we got to the point of the trees I was already super tired.  I didn't really expect what was coming up- tight corners, sand, wood chips.  Then, there was the "Murray Hill."  I had always thought it was one of the hills that was just going up the grass that wasn't much of a big deal.  Turns out it was really steep dirt with only a couple feet across and so many people are going up it at once.  A few people passed me there.  When we were out of the trees and onto some soccer fields there was a huge headwind.  We went around a post and a girl swung around it and hit me because I went around it really wierd.  I heard people on the sidelines telling other girls to get in those arrow dynamics with the wind.  I actually was playing around with my hands straight out and I made my arms pump really hard which made me go faster and pass a few other girls.  I don't really know why I did that, but it was kind of fun.  I could still see the SV girls and I was really close to them.  I just kept going and when we went around a statue, I caught up to Megan.  We were back and forth for a little while.  Then, a huge herd of Varsity boys were coming around the corner.  I was stuck in the pack.  It kind of helped, but mainly really messed me up because they were all sprinting.  They slowed down when I was supposed to begin sprinting. I hoped I wouldn't miss the turn to finish and run the race with the boys which luckily I didn't.  The final sprint I tried my hardest to catch this Orem girl and we were .2 seconds apart, I don't know who won.

I felt really good about my race.  (Wow I wrote a lot!) I wished my start had been a little better and I could have stayed with the girls.  I'm now sixth on varsity and I'm hoping I can get a little further up, but our first to our sixth girls' times were about 17 seconds difference!  We are doing so amazing by sticking together which I'm so happy about.  We did a little cool down around three fourths a mile which I did barefoot (not smart).

So, today I really wasn't in the mood to run in the morning.  Around 1 or 2 I realized I'd better get going.  I was planning on doing only 5, but Conner told me I'd better get a longer run in.  With long runs, I try to keep them at a consistant pace.  The entire time I tried to keep it around an 8:30ish.  Most of it was pretty on.  My last two miles I wasn't feeling up for it, but I pushed myself to keep that pace.  I had a lot of fun, but was really tired from yesterday.

Today I didn't highdrate at school which wasn't very smart.  We first warmed up the course we were supposed to go.  We did mile intervals at tempo pace with a minute long recovery.  Each time I did around a two minute recovery because I wasn't feeling very great and my throat was really dry.  My first time was a little slow- 6:58 and I was going for 6:50's. My next one I didn't feel very great around the half mile point and it was 7:43.  After that one Coach told me to start a little later with the girls and recover for a little longer.  The next one I tried so hard, but it was an 8:10.  My next one was 8:07 and my last part I was sprinting my guts out to go as hard as possible at the end.  I really regret my times now that I look at them because it doesn't look like I tried, but nobody seemed to have a good day because it was so hot and I feel a little tired from Friday, still.  We cooled down a little ways to the track after getting a drink.  Coach had us do 200's if we felt like it.  I was feeling much better after the cool down, so I decided to go all out.  It was 37 which was way good for me.  I wanted to do another one for fun because I was feeling even better.  It was 38.  I was really happy with those 200s atleast.

Before today's race I didn't feel mentally very prepared.  I was really tired because I felt like I didn't get enough sleep.  When we got thereI started to actually feel a little more pumped.  We warmed up quite a bit and everybody on our team were trying to explain the course all at once so I was a little confused and worried that I'd go the wrong way.

We finally started.  I ran down that first strip really fast, which helped a lot because I stayed up in that closer to the front pack almost the entire time.  We went on a really bumpy trail, then onto a dirt road which brought us into the trees.  I knew there were three MC girls in front of me and Riley and Kaitlin.  We went on a really narrow trail down a pretty steep hill right after we got into the trees.  Right before we turned onto another trail, I slightly twisted my ankle and it hurt a little, but I kept running.  While we were going up this little hill a MC girl was in front of me going slower than I'd like to, but I couldn't pass her and my ankle slowly stopped hurting as we went up that short hill.  Then we did some crazy twists and turns and I passed one of the MC girls up a hill.  At some points I was slightly confused on where to go next, but they had the trail marked pretty well and I never got totally lost.  I did twist my ankle another time, but it didn't hurt much.  When we finally got out of the trees I thought we were almost done and I passed the other MC girl.  I thought after you go up the hill you went into the finish, but actually you went around the same loop we started.  Before I got onto that trail, a BE girl passed me unexpectantly.  I caught up to Riley and drafted off of her because there was a slight headwind.  On that final sprint I tried to pass Riley, but she would sprint which is great for her.  I tried a couple times, then we sprinted to the end.

I felt super good at the end and neither of my ankles hurt which was really weird.  I don't know why, but I was talking really loudly and easily right after which makes me kind of feel like I didn't try hard enough, but I just felt so good.  I was happy about my time and our team is doing so well which I am so happy about.

For early morning practice, I got there a little late and everybody was already going up 6th south.  I caught up to the girls when I got to the top of the hill.  We did golf course extended, but the coaches were with us and made us go even more extended up the canyon which was actually really fun.  We were a little tired from yesterday and my calf was sore (I think from twisting my ankle, but it doesn't hurt anymore) so we were going slow, but sometimes the pace was pushed.  Because I'm a freshman, I have to catch the bus to NC and I only had 15 minutes to change, but I was happy I stuck with the girls.

We went to beast for a warm up and I thought it was going to be really hard, but it turned out to be super easy.  We went up it four times, and in between we did a longer recovery.  After that we did 30seconds at race pace which I felt amazing for.  Then, the team played 10 dot dot and that was really fun.  After that we jogged back for a mile.

Next we did 3 800s at i pace and I was a little slow on those, but our recovery times were super specific.  Next we did 10 200s at race and i pace back and forth, which for me were really slow.  We cooled down a mile at the very end.

Today was Aggie Ice Cream where we run to Aggie Ice Cream and buy ice cream, then ride the bus back to SV.  Because I'm a freshman, we get to SV a little late and I ended up running with the freshman.  We went VERY slow.  I had fun, but I didn't sweat much which means it felt like I was jogging at walking speed and I wasn't very happy with that. Our pace was probably ten to twelve minute miles. When we ran in everybody was cheering for us and I can't wait to be at SV so we don't get there so late becuase I wasn't happy with how slow we were going.

So, I was really pumped for today and really nervous.  We took a while to actually start warming up, but when we did I began to feel really good.  It felt like we did a mile warming up, which I'm not very sure about, but it was close enough to a mile.  Right before we started my throat began getting dry.  Storrs was giving out gum, so I decided to try it out.

When we did start, the first 100m I had already spit out my gum.  I was feeling super good, and I began following close behind Vicky Krull.  I knew she was much faster than me, and I was wondering if I could actually keep up with her for very long. I was in fourth place that entire first mile.  When we crossed the mile, I looked down at my watch and it said 6:15!  I probable shouldn't have looked at it because I knew I was going way to fast and I slowed down for some crazy reason.  I wish I could have tried to keep up with her.  I knew the girls behind me could catch up and I could try hanging on to them, which wasn't very smart, either.  They passed me pretty quickly and I wasn't very far behind them.  I could feel the mint in the back of my throat the entire time, which means the gum was not very smart to use for me.  My second mile was much slower, and at the very end I tried to sprint, but didn't have enough energy to.  I did get sprinted past, which I hope I can work on.

Afterwards, we found out that Sky View beat Mountain Crest which was our goal!  We were super happy and maybe a little too cocky about it, but we were very happy!  We were very pumped up and had a fun victory cool down which was around 1.3 miles.  I personally wished I could have stayed further up there in the lead, but I now have learned that is something I should work on.

We warmed up doing part of the course so we wouldn't get lost which was a little under 2 miles.

I was pretty nervous because we were going against Ogden for the first time and I didn't know what to expect. Right before we were about to start, Coach was talking to Lauren and me about how Katelyn and Riley are going to go hard.  I was pretty pumped right after he told us that.  When we started, I felt really good, so I got all the way in the front.  I just didn't feel like I was going hard enough.  The first half mile I was in front of everybody which to me was CRAZY!  After two girls passed me I didn't feel as crazy which was good.  My first mile was around 6:11 which was dang fast.  I was in third for quite a while until an Ogden girl passed me and I hung on her almost the entire time.  Towards the very end she began to go the wrong way and I would have felt really bad if I beat her just because she was going the wrong way, so I was telling her "wrong way!" I feel like I pretty much let her pass me after that, then another Ogden girl passed me.  At the very end I was trying to sprint to possible pass them, but I didn't have the energy.  I wish I didn't let them pass me, but I wasn't thinking much.

We beat Ogden, still which was pretty good and I think our team has a pretty good chance for region.

We warmed up 1 mile, I was really in the mood to do a tempo for some reason, but we ended up doing something way different and much easier.  Then, we ran 1 1000 at i pace.  It was much faster than it should have been because we have been so competative and somebody will speed up making everybody else go faster.  Our recovery was around 600m Then we did 3x400 at race pace.  The first one there was a huge group of people running with making it hard, so mine was a little slow.  The next two were right on because we split up into two groups. Between each 400 we did a 400 recovery.  After that we did 4x200 which were all a couple seconds fast.  Coach wanted us to keep it efficient and right on, but it was downhill which made it hard to keep it slower. In between each of those we also had a 200 recovery.  After that we cooled down around a mile.  I felt super good today.

It was also boys with girls, so we could just get over with it. Right when we started, some Bonneville boys yelled, "for Narnia!"  It was pretty funny and we were just laughing.  The entire race we chatted and talked and didn't really try to push the pace, even though we were.  Our first mile was around 6:30 and we wanted 6:50.  Our next I think was around 6:50 because we kind of forced ourselves to slow down.  Our last one was fast, also.  Right at the end we talked about making it a dramatic, slow finish just for fun.  Instead, everybody caught me by surprise to sprint!  I didn't catch them and gladly it wasn't for region because I was 8th on the girls' team.  Then we did a 1.5 cool down and had a fun bus ride home.

All day I was pretty pumped for region.  When we got there, the nerves finally kicked in.  We jogged around the course adding up to about two miles and I was really ready.  I feel like I warmed up early, but it helped me mentally quite a bit.  I really wanted to get over with it.  When we did a couple striders I wasn't going as fast as I'd liked, but it turned out okay.

When we started I kept my eye on the hill that we were going to run past which really helped me have a good start.  Once we reached a street I noticed Vickie and I hoped to stay with her, but I slowly got further behind her.  I then kept up with Jessie, a Logan girl, and my teammate Lauren.  I was feeling really good, but when we passed the one mile mark I got nervous, because our first mile was a little slower than 6 which I thought was way too fast.  We completed the first loop and continued to stick together.  After the second mile I was still feeling good.  We got toward the last 800m and there were these two bumps that took lots of my energy out of me and I slowed a bit.  I caught back up  with the two and then Jessie sprinted off.  I tried to sprint, but I couldn't stay with her.  The last 200 meteres was hard because you thought the finish was right there, but it seemed so far away.  I tried to sprint from Lauren knowing there was also a MC girl behind us, but the last 50m they both sprinted past me. Our times are so close. I'm really mad about it, but I learned that you don't pull back until the very end.

I felt tired afterwards, but when I saw my time I got super happy and pumped because my goal was sub-twenty and I got sub-nineteen!  We cooled down about a mile while watching the boys race.  I had a really good day.

State!  All day I was freaking out because I was so nervous which is a bad thing.  When we got there we relaxed which was the only thing I couldn't do.  Finally we began warming up.  I brought my iPod to help me mentally get in the right phase.  As we warmed up I was so tense!  I should have relaxed more.  We warmed up about 2 miles.  While doing my leg swings I was still not in the right phase and trying to get into it.  I may have been psyced out a bit because it was state.  Then we got to the starting line.  I thought it was a race where you start, but NO, they have a minute of silence which freaked me out!  I wanted to start NOW!  I feel as if I do better at the races where they just say "go!" and you go.

When they shot the gun I put my eyes on the end of the funnel and sprinted.  I did get boxed in a little, but it didn't affect badly.  After a couple meters past the funnel I felt somebody trip on the back of my shoe  which untied it.  Later on I found out it was Miranda and I felt so bad.  I just kept going up the hill.  I was still feeling nervous which was weird.  I think I was in the top 20 to 30.  As we went on that flat spot quite a few girls passed me, then going down the steep hill I couldn't catch my breath.  I was breathing VERY hard.  Then, before the hill I just didn't feel good (probably from nerves).  I tried to go up the hill fast, but I couldn't.  When I got to the top I tried to speed up again and I crossed the one mile mark.  A bunch of people had passed me by now and I wanted to give up.  It was all mental.  The race continued and I feel as if I didn't do very well.  I felt so sick, also, at one point I told myself I'd just go to the side and throw up.  The last 800meters I started to actually feel a bit better and I sped up knowing this was my last chance to get a better time.  My last 200 meters I felt much more amazing and passed a couple of girls which I am happy about because my sprint was actually good.

Afterwards, while watching Conner's amazing race, I did a two mile cool down where I began to feel better.  I wish I ran my race feeling how I did at the time.

Overall I had a good start, terrible middle, and pretty descent end.  My goal was sub-twenty which I didn't get by 13 seconds!  I was mainly really mad at myself because my time was just a bit slower than tempo.  Now that I think about it, it was my freshman year and I three more years.  I was pretty hard on myself about that. Our team did pretty well, we got 7th which is much better than last year.

I'm pretty sad the season's over, but I'm excited for next year and now I'm going to train for Foot Locker Regionals.

I was so confused, but it turned out to be the Ultimate Frisbee team and I was relieved.  When I got to the track, I saw Conner.   I did a 1200 I pace with a 2 minute recovery.  It was a second fast (4:32).  Then I did two 800s I  pace with a 2 minute recovery.  The first one was okay and one second fast (3:01), but the second one kind of sucked and was a second slow (3:03).  Then I did four 400s R pace with a 400 recovery.  My times were 41, 43, 42, 41 (it was supposed to be 42).  I didn't feel super great during those.  When I got home, I cooled down a mile with my dog which was fun.

At school for PE I ran the mile. It SUCKED because it was inside and 20 laps. My time was 7:03 and everybody thought I was going SO fast which was really funny because it wasn't. I think it was a little long because my time was long and I was trying to go faster, but it was super hot inside.

when I got home I did four easy.  My times kind of weren't great.  They ranged from 7:30 to 9:00 (my last mile).  I was happy that I ran, though.

I was supposed to do a tempo, but I wasn't feeling up to it, so my dad had me run six easy with him.  I didn't get much sleep the night before, so I wasn't very enthusiastic about the run or during. When we got home, I was happy I ran.  We averaged 7:56 which I don't know how that happened, because we ran at 9:00 pace at one point.

We were at a hotel in SLC and I ran on their treadmills that morning.  It was so hot I only did 1.5.  That night (after Thanksgiving) I needed to run more, so I ran 3.  My pace was around 7:15 during that run and it was also very hot.

My dad drove Conner and me to a track in SLC to do a workout.  We warmed up 1.5 miles.  This is how the workout was written down: 2(200r 400i 200r) with a 5 minute recovery each set.  It is supposed to help with racing mentality.  My first 200 was too fast (40), my 400 was two seconds slow (1:33), and my last 200 was one second slow (43).  It added up to 2:57 and it was hard!  After a 400 in five minutes recovery I did it again. 200 was one second fast (41), 400 was three seconds slow (1:34), 200 was one slow (43).  I was so tired after that! After the recovery which was 400m in five minutes, we did two 200s f pace.  They were both 38 seconds which was really good.  I was happy with my workout and Conner cooled down with more than a mile and a half cool down.

I did 4 miles at marathon pace which I estimated to be around 7:25 ish.  Right before I ran I ate a couple chocolate chips which I didn't think would affect my run, but they did.  I felt really good the first 1.5 miles. My first mile was 6:59 which was way to fast because I felt really good.  The next half a mile was about 3:42 which was right on.   Then I started to not feel good.  I slowly slowed down.  When I was almost to the next mile, I noticed Conner coming back and I tried to speed up.  I stopped at the 2 mile point and my time for that full mile was 8:28, so I had slowed down quite a bit.  After a couple seconds I started up again.  That next half mile was was 4:32 and I was beginning to feel much better.  I began to go for the correct pace the last portion of that mile getting 3:27.  My last mile I pushed quite a bit because it was a very uphill mile and I wanted to get the time and I got 7:24 which I was happy about.  I went inside and Conner offered to do 4 ups (where you speed up every 10 seconds leading up to a sprint for 60 seconds total) with me around the block. The first one I started way to fast and couldn't sprint at the end.  The second one I felt really good, but I couldn't sprint.  The next one felt really good, also.  The final one I had trouble sprinting, but overall it felt really good.

I saw supposed to do 4 easy/long.  I felt super good and it was very cold outside, so I was going faster than I should have.  My times were 1)7:34 2)7:40 3)8:11 4)7:43.  The main reason I think I was going fast is I wanted to be out of the cold.  After that, I did 6 striders that were about 100m.  They mainly felt good, a couple were to slow or too fast at the start.  Afterwards, Conner told me I should have gone slower.

I went down to the track to do some sprinting.  Right when I got there Conner was already leaving.  I warmed up a mile, but I was only wearing a long sleeved shirt and shorts in about 15 degree weather.  I was very cold!  The mile felt good.  Then, I did 2x400 I pace with a three minute recovery.  My times were 1) 1:29 2)1:27 which is way fast because I was supposed to get 1:32.  During the recovery I jogged 200meters to stay warm.  After that I did 2x200 R pace with a 200 recovery.  My times were 1)38 2)39.  They were very fast because it was supposed to be 42 seconds.  The last thing was a 200 F pace with a 200 recovery.  My time was 37 which is only a little faster than the previous 200s.  I went home and did a cool down mile in a sweatshirt to stay warm.  I was super happy about my workout even though it was so cold.  My times were all super fast.
