Personal:

When I was young, I ran local fun runs with my family, but nothing more. I watched my dad, mom, and 2 older brothers begin running and decided to try it out. During the spring of 6th grade, I ran 3 miles a couple times a week with my dad and have loved running ever since. I ran local 5ks and even a half marathon. In 7th grade I watched Conner, my older brother, run cross country and decided that I wanted to try it.

High School: Really enjoyed it all so much, grateful for all of the friendships I made while doing it. There were ups and downs, but it was a wonderful experience!

I enjoy running, playing piano, painting, skiing, and hiking. Life is totally worth living. Running my favorite meditation. I ran for Sky View High School. I served a mission in the Adriatic North Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Not yet sure what my plans are with running these next few month, but I am looking forward to an exciting future!

Today wasn't the best tempo run, but atleast I got some workout in. I still have a cold from last week.  I started out on my warmup, but decided my ears were cold, so I ran home to grab a headband. That added half of a mile to my warmup.  I warmed up down the hill to the Canyon, so my first tempo wasn't gonna be fast. My fist mile, I felt good.  I was super motivated and I thought I was on pace.  It was a gradual uphill, but I knew I could still hit the time.  I was wrong.  It ended up being a 6:59. I thought I would just have to make up for it this next mile, but a few seconds in my throat began acting up and I couldn't stop coughing. After a 30 second break I started up again.  Halfway, the headwimd got really bad going up.  I was pushing, but knew I wasn't going fast enough. Towards the end, I began coughing again. It sucks being sick. Well, after another break, I finished up the mile which turned out to be a 7:51 (not including breaks). Physically I felt like I was going tempo, but my times were showing it. After a 2 minute break of mentally recouping, I started to go down. The dpwnhill and tailwind really felt good.  I wasn't giving it my all, but I was putting in effort.  The two miles were 6:26 and 6:33 with a 30 second break in between. I then extended my cool down to a mile and a half which included the hill.  It was really slow. After I got warmer, I did a pretty hard core workout and another mile on the treadmill.  I was hoping to get in some more miles, but I need to let my body recover from being sick.  Hopefully I can make up those miles later in the week.  (Sorry for the long entry)

9 up Smithfield Canyon at 7:58 average pace.  I checked the weather app to see the temperature.  It said it was 14 degrees and snowing outside.  It was definitely cold, but there were blue skies the whole time. Smithfield Canyon is super pretty right now with the snow from Saturday.

Later I did 4 miles on the treadmill around 7:45 minute miles.  My cold has mostly gone away, but my throat is super dry which does not make running inside easy.

I was gonna do some hill repeats, but after charging my gps watch, it wasn't working. I noticed that the track had been plowed or something, so I decided to give it a go for some Russian Intervals.  As I was warming up 2 miles to Sky View, it got super warm. The sun was out and I was excited.  Then, the wind kicked in and it got cold again. When I got to the track, it was plowed, but not clear.  Running on it was doable, but sprinting was a whole other story.  There was still a layer of snow, but it was packed.  Sometimes my foot would fall through and I would stumble.  It was hard to sprint, but it was still okay.  I did 2.5 sets of Russians 4×300@rpace w/ 35 second 100 in between. I was hoping for 1:00 300s, but that didn't happen. My first set was 1) 1:06, 2) 1:12, 3) 1:12, 4) 1:13.  They were at about tempo pace, but it was hard running in the snow and at some points, I found it better to run in lane 3. After a 400 recovery, my second set was much better. 1) 1:08, 2) 1:09, 3) 1:10, 4) 1:11.  I did another 400 recovery, but wasn't in the mood to do another full set, so I just did 2. 1) 1:09, 2) 1:12.  I could feel that slight burn from trying to sprint, but my times didn't show it.  I cooled down up the hill 2 miles, slowly.

Later, I did 4 miles on the treadmill faster than 7:45 pace. It felt pretty good.

I did 4 miles premeet because I was planning on going to Boise. It was around 8:45 pace which felt really good.  I did a different loop that avoided uphills, but was still really fun. I got 2 striders in which felt really good.  When I got home, I talked to my parents and we decided not to go to Boise.  There were both pros and cons to either way.  One pro to not going is I might be able to hit a 60 mile week.

Later I did 2 miles on the treadmill at around 7:45 pace.

It was pretty warm after school which was awesome.  I still wore tights, though.  I first went around the block, but realized if I was going to go long, I m8ght want my iPod. I ran from my house to Sky View. I continued past sv to Cedar Ridge. I then extended, but cut down before the Milky Way because that road is scary enough just driving on it.  After I passed sv, I went back home up 6th, and I extended another half mile around the block. It was really fun and full of hills. My average pace was 7:50 and I was feeling super good- ready to race.  During the run, I listened to really happy songs which brought me back to 6th grade when I'd run down the road and wave to everybody.  I waved to every car that passed. It was really fun.  It was pretty slushy, but I felt so good.  Maybe my body needed that long, easy run.

After I got warm, I ran 1.5 more miles on the treadmill at 7:45 pace to get me on track for 60.

I didn't start running until 2:00, but it was a beautiful, sunny day.  I was so pumped when I went outside wearing shorts.  I don't think it was over 30 degrees, but the sun made it much warmer.  I warmed up a mile around the block and was feeling amazing.  After some leg swings, I did my tempo on my favorite loop.  It went awesome. 1) 6:18, 2) 6:24 (some uphill, and a slight headwind coming back), 3) 6:19.  On the last mile I was really pushing.  I felt really good the last 400. I barely missed a sub 19, but it was my best 3 miles this winter, possibly my best 3 straight tempo ever. After a 30 second break, I headed towards the canyon tempo.  My fourth mile was a 6:05, but it was super downhill. I then continued half a mile up the canyon half a mile in 3:14, and cameback down at a 3:02. The fifth mile totalled to a 6:16.  I was feeling awesome.  I stopped for a minute to catch my breath when those 2 miles were over. I was so happy. My average pace was under a 6:20! I think the sun really helped. My cool down mile up golf course hill and home was super slow (10 minutes) but I still felt good. I picked up Ruby and we ran 2 miles at 9:00 pace. She seemed to enjoy it.  I'm glad I could run with her. I love the feeling of enjoying running.  It's hard when there is nobody to run with, but I think my motivation has come back this week. This tempo and yesterday really got me motivated again.

I'm super glad I got 60 miles! That is definitely my highest mileage ever (53.5 was my previous). My knees can feel it, a little, but after a day break, I should feel good for next week. I don't know if I'll hit that high of mileage again until summer training, but we'll see.

The highlighr of my Mondays are reading Conner's letters after school.  Then I go for my run.  I was feeling really tired after last week.  I was hoping to do tempo, but that didn't play out very well.  I warmed up a mile around the block. My stomach wasn't feeling the best for multiple reasons.  I started, though, towards and down golf course hill.  I got my half mile splits: .5) 3:13 1) 3:06 which added up to a 6:19 mile.  I decided then to go up golf course and see how fast I coukd hit it.  Going up, I felt really good.  When I got to the top I was at 2:20 which is 20 seconds slower than going down. That half mile split, though was a 3:35 meaning I slowed down a bit after the hill. The final half mile, I was struggling.  I finished with a 3:38 half mile which totaled to 13:23 in 2 miles.  I was not super happy with it.  My stomach still hurt, probably from the food I ate yesterday during the super bowl.  I didn't cool down.

Around 9:00 I ran 5 miles on the treadmill in 38:30, so under 7:45 which felt good.  As I did so I watched youtube videos which kept me going. I wasn't feeling good enough for a hard core workout, so I did some light core.

After school I only did 4 miles. I felt really good until 2 miles, so I turned around. My pace slowed way down the last 2 miles, but it was okay.

After mutual I ran 4 on the treadmill under 31 minutes.  It felt good, a lot better than earlier today.  I also did a pretty hard core workout which felt good.

I didn't want to feel sick, so I did 2 easy miles, then I ran to beast which made my warmup a little over 3.5.  I ran up beast 4 times.  The entire time durig each repeat I was really focused.  My times were shockingly consistent, even though it was my first hill workout since before Foot Locker. My splits were 1) 1:13, 2) 1:12, 3) 1:13, 4) 1:15.  I was going to do more, but I knew my times woukdn't stay consistent. Also I was feeling really tired, so I then did 2 beauty repeats, but they weren't very good (like a 41 and 42). I ran home after that.  It's hard to cool down at a decent pace after hills, and my pace was way slow.

I later did 6 on the treadmill.  I don't remember the total time, but they average under 7:45.  I took 2 breaks (after mile 3 and mile 5). I've been feeling pretty tired, possibly from last week.

My watch wouldn't lock on, so I ran a mile to Mack Park. On the way to Macl Park I could almost taste the inversion, it was pretty bad.  At Mack Park, I did a few strider until my watch locked on.  I continued my premeet on Sunnyside.  It was super pretty, and the inversion was gone.  It felt really good. The last mile, I again could taste the inversion. It was mostly when cars passed. I'm feeling really good, though. I averaged 8:45 pace which is good for premeet.

It was a really good day.  We made it to the oval right on time.  I had plenty of time to relax. I began my warmup around 7:50ish because they were behind, and I wasn't sure exactly when they would start the 2 mile.  I warmed up outside, and did 1.3 miles.  I want to bring up my warmup miles during meets where I only do one event, but I don't want to over warmup, so this meet I decided to just bring it up a little. When I finished, I just relaxed.  When they called I was feeling ready.  They didn't give us lane assignments, so I was on the outide or the second row.

I got out nicely.  I mostly wanted to stick with the lead pack.  I did get passed by a few girls, but just stuck with them.  I then got passed by two Davis girls.  I thought they would have stuck with the lead pack, but on one of the curves we lost them.  I then just decided to keep Aubrey (from Davis) in my line of sight.  I was confused with the number or laps, because they had one too many.  I was way confused!  On the second to last lap, she pulled away.  On the last lap, I quickly calculated the time and realized I had one left! I was a little mad, because I started my sprint a little too late. I felt really good sprinting, and I finished under 11:30! I was pretty happy, but my body was tired.  I'm happy with the race, but I wish I had known the number of laps or kept track better, then I would have been able to pr (one second away!).  I love that track and was glad to run on it atleast one this year.

After I watched the boys race, I ran .7 outside, then went inside hoping to run around the track another mile.  I ran with a bunch of guys from the Hobby Jogger project which was way fun.  I did 5 laps, so around 1.2 miles.  It was a good day.

It was a really fun run.  I didn't start until 2:00 because I had to watch the olympic trials which was fun to watch. I did the same loop I did last week, down to sv, then to Ceda Ridge, then back to sv, and back home. I felt really good the first 3 miles.  My third mile actually ended up being a 6:45 (so that is fast). Towards the end my body felt so tired.  I just continued on.  My pace slowly dropped, but I kept pushing.  While I was running I realized that I hadn't eaten much since lunch yesterday (at Olive Garden).  My body was so tired.  I finished 10.3 at 7:50 pace.  Then I had some cereal and apple juice.  I was exhausted, but a long run was what I needed.

Later I did .5 to finish up my miles to get 50.

I started my run a little after 10.  It was really nice outside, the rain cleared out the inversion which was wonderful.  I warmed up 2 miles around 8 min mile pace.  I really wanted caramel apples while I was running for some reason, so I told myself that if I hit my 800, I would get myself some.  I didn't want to run down to the track because I knew it was snow covered, so I did my repeat from my house.  The majority was gradual uphill.  I ran an 800 at my 2 mile pace.  It felt really good, but I could feel it.  I started from my corner to avoid slush, so I kept checking my watch the last stretch. I know I hit it (a 2:51), because I hit .51miles in 2:54! Then I recovered a mile and a half.  When I got home, I did 4 200s at rpace with a 200 recovery. They went really well.  I forgot how good it feels to do a workout with sprints.  It's hard, but short.  My times were 1) 38, 2) 36, 3) 38, 4) 35.  My form felt really good and so I just went with it. The 38s there was a headwind, but back (35 and 36), there was a downhill and tailwind, so they felt really good. After I did a mile cool down.  I was hoping to do 4 more, but I might take it easier for Simplot this week.

It was so beautiful outside today! I was gonna run later in the evening, but I couldn't pass up the chance to run in the sun.  It was maybe 37ish degrees, but the sun was out, so it was way warm.  I was able to wear shorts and short sleaves. I ran 8 up Smithfield Canyon and averaged an 8:00 mile.  My first mile was around 7 minutes, so I backed off on my pace.  It felt really good to go nice and slow.  I'm sore from sprinting yesterday, but atleast I could run it out today.  My shoulder also hurt because I think I slept on it funny. Also, I didn't eat a ton today because I was so busy, I didn't think about it until I was running and my body was tired.  These things weren't super horrible because I was so happy that the sun was out, but I did notice them.  I'm ready for Simplot.

I took Ruby on my premeet; she had a blast.  I did 3 miles easy, but I felt so good my average pace ended up being a 7:50. It was warm, but overcast like a humid overcast day in the middle of the summer.  There was a slight breeze, but it felt way good.  I didn't go as far as planned, but I don't want to overdo it.  I'm ready for tomorrow.

I felt really good this race.  Before we got to the meet, I had been hydrating a ton because the track gets pretty hot while you're running.  When we got there, I was worried I had hydrated too much and it would mess up my race, but I guess it was perfect because it helped my race more. I did a half mile shake out with the guys which felt pretty good, I went a little fast, but it felt good to stride out.  After watching the guys run, I was getting nervous.  My goal was a sub 11:40 because I knew that I would get to finals with that time no matter what (compared to previous years).  I warmed up a mile with a girl from Lehi named Sami, I think.  She was super nice and it was awesome doing a warmup with somebody because I haven't done a warmup with someone in a long time.  We went about a mile. I was ready right on time and actually got in all of my stretches which was great.  I had eaten a perfect amount of food, but for some reason I was hungry, probably because I'm used to eating after my run around that time. Okay, now to the race.

We started out way fast.  I know that this race tends to be that way, so I went up with the front girls on the second lap.  I passed the leaders of the pack because they really slowed down before the second lap was over. Our 400 was still way fast, but I knew it would make it easier to hit my goal and I was feeling good, so I just kept going. The rest of the race is a blur because the laps tend to get too repetative.  I knew I just needed to hit around a 44 lap.  I was on pace the whole time.  It didn't really feel like a race, other than that there were people watching, and I was running away from the pack.  The leader was way ahead, so I just kept pushing.  I felt really good until the last 800m.  My body was feeling tired.  I just kept going.  I was really worried that the girls behind me would catch me, but I don't know when they dropped.  I kind of sprinted then, too, but it wasn't too hard.  I only really put energy into the last lap because I had 44 seconds to hit my goal.  My laps didn't sound or feel even, but it was okay. I definitely didn't feel as if I had to put my all into it, which was good. I was happy with my finishing time. My body felt amazing.

I then talked to some people, then cooled down a mile in the dark which was kinda sketch. It was way fun to hang out with people and to watch the races, but I got really tired. We didn't leave until the girls mile started, and I couldn't sleep on the way home. I'm pretty pumped for Saturday, but I'm gonna need to get more sleep.

Went 2.5 miles premeet with Ruby.  It was super pretty.  It feels like spring which is wonderful! I felt good, but I'm so tired.  I will hopefully get in a nap this afternoon. My miles ended up averaging an 8 min pace. I'm way pumped for tomorrow!

I had an awesome morning prepping for the race, but my legs were still a little tired.  I drove up with my mom around 11, and we had plenty of time to watch some races.  I wasn't ready to start my warmup.  Now that it's over, I can admit that I was so nervous going into this race- especially because I was seeded second.  My goal was to pr, that was it.  I didn't care if I was gonna place, all I wanted was a pr.  When I started my warmup, it was super pretty outside.  I loved how warm it was! I only did a mile, but I guess that was all I needed. After I grabbed my shoes and got everything prepped, I went down to check in with Emily. I got in all of my stretches again which was pretty nice.  The striders felt good.

When the gun went off, my nerves totally left.  I just ran.  The first few laps I don't really remember. I just remember passing the pack and focusing on the girl in the front.  I felt really good, but I was worried my first mile was way too fast.  It ended up being around a 5:30.  I was running alone pretty much the entire time.  On the 150m mark, I could see the pack 50m behind me.  It really pushed me, and I noticed the gap getting slowly bigger over time.  I can admit that I wanted to give up at the mile and last 800 mark, but both times I thought that would be stupid because I was in a good place.  Because my pace was quicker than normal, I wasn't positive on my times that I was supposed to hit.  I know my splits were fairly consistent. The majority of the race was a blur. The last 400 I kicked, but I didn't feel much faster.  The last 300, I heard the bell for the leader's last lap, and I kicked some more.  On the last 100, I realized this was the last of indoor, so I'd better give it my all.  I didn't feel like it was faster, but I could feel the last of what I had in me. I didn't know my time because they stopped the clock.

I never imagined getting second at Simplot, so I'm happy, but I couldn't have done it without all the motivation from other people and Conner's help with workouts.  I'm happy about the pr, too. I cooled down about a mile with Emily which was fun.  When I got back, Ethan invited me to cool down with him.  It ended up also being with some crazy fast guys, too.  Luckily, they didn't go very fast at all.  It was really fun. It was a fun day!

It felt so good to get back into running!  Because this was my last chance to get in a break before track, I took a bit of extra time off.  It was a nice, sunny day, so I wore shorts which felt wonderful. I ran with Ruby and we averaged under an 8:30 pace.

It was a beautiful day, but I spent the entire day babysitting, so around 5:30 I did 5 miles up the canyon.  It was starting to get dark, and it cooled down really fast, but it felt amazing.  I went further up so I could cut up nature trail, even though it was snow covered. It was pretty fun, but hard to not slip.  My average pace was a little over 8, but it felt good, and as I was running home the sunset was beautiful.  I like Cache Valley sunsets.

We'll just go with that I ran 2 miles.  It was track tryouts, which are not my most favorite part of the season. I was hoping to do more, but my body was so beat.  We did a lot of random workouts like hurdle drills, core, jumping, and the 400. On the 400, I got a 1:12 which is sadly I think my pr.  Sprinting isn't my thing.  It felt good, and I just strided in the last 100.  The 200 mark was a 34 which was nice.  We didn't get much warmup which wasn't smart, and I was already dead from the workouts, but I felt really happy after... like the runner's high finally hit.  I ran a mile after with Rachel, Lauren, and Kelsey.  It was fun. That mile made me pumped for track.
