Personal:

When I was young, I ran local fun runs with my family, but nothing more. I watched my dad, mom, and 2 older brothers begin running and decided to try it out. During the spring of 6th grade, I ran 3 miles a couple times a week with my dad and have loved running ever since. I ran local 5ks and even a half marathon. In 7th grade I watched Conner, my older brother, run cross country and decided that I wanted to try it.

High School: Really enjoyed it all so much, grateful for all of the friendships I made while doing it. There were ups and downs, but it was a wonderful experience!

I enjoy running, playing piano, painting, skiing, and hiking. Life is totally worth living. Running my favorite meditation. I ran for Sky View High School. I served a mission in the Adriatic North Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Not yet sure what my plans are with running these next few month, but I am looking forward to an exciting future!

I waited until 12:00 for it to warm up to 6 degrees to run 10 miles up Smithfield Canyon.  It was really fun.  Going up I averaged around an 8:00 min/mile, then coming down I was able to bring the pace down to a 7:45 min/mile.  It felt super good.  It was cold, especially in the shade, but I enjoyed it so much.

Today was a good day, even though I was worried because I had to get in 10 miles.  It warmed up to 5 degrees around 11:30, so I decided to run then.  I warmed up a mile, the my iPod ran out of batteries because it was cold.  I really didn't want to do my tempo run without my iPod because I was so motivated. I spent ten minutes finding a way to put my iPod in a pocket and keep it warm.  I also felt warm, so I didn't wear my jacket.  I still had on my long sleeved shirt, tights, headband, and 2 pairs of gloves.  My run went almost perfectly. My miles were: 1) 6:19, 1.5) 3:22 (had to spit for 5 seconds), 2) 3:07 (total mile including the break: 6:34), 3) 6:23. Then I took a minute break.  My total time was a 19:18, and I was still feeling good. My fourth mile was 6:21.  I then took another minute break like mile repeats. My fifth mile was a 6:25.  Excluding the breaks, my total time was a 32:01 for 5 miles which means I averaged a 6:24 min/mile. I felt so good and motivated. Although I had breaks, I think that was my fastest 5 mile workout.  I then cooled down 3 miles with Ruby.  I'm surprised she wasn't freezing, because I got cold.  I had taken off one pair of gloves and my hands froze. The times for those three miles were 1) 8:42, 2) 8:14, 3) 8:17. When I got home I was hungry and cold, so I warmed up by putting away Christmas decorations and eating some chicken noodle soup.  After, I ran one mile on the treadmill in under 8 minutes to finish up this week's mileage, which I've only gotten once before (50). It was a really good day for running and now I'm so pumped.

It was 23 degrees outside and I was gonna wear shorts, but last mintute, I gladly threw on some tights. I was hoping to do a track workout of either tempo 1000s or Russian Intervals, but after I warmed up 2 miles to the track, I found out it was snow covered.  I decided to give it a go, but only lasted a 100m, then slowed down.  My 200 time was a solid 1 minute.  I finished the lap, slowly, then decided to maybe just do church run tempo.  When I got off the track, I saw some of the distance guys. They invited me to run with them, so I did.  It was spontaneou ,  but really fun.  I was dying the first mile and it was Andrew's and Jordan's first run in three weeks, so we struggled to keep up with Ethan and Landon.  Then Ethan dropped his phone, so we got a good break.  We saw the other Jordan, and picked him up.  At mile three, everybody turned around except me, Ethan, and Jordan.  I was dying, but I knew the miles were what I needed. Ethan was probably going super slow for his easy pace, but it was fun to run with him and talk.  Half a mile before we turned around it got super slushy and difficult. We went up 5 miles up Smithfield Canyon. After we turned around, it was plenty easier.  My legs were really tired, too.  Jordan went home, then it was just me and Ethan.  My legs were dying the last mile.  I could tell Ethan wanted to go faster, but it was nice that he stayed with me. It reminded me of when Conner would run with me which made me happy. It was really fun.  It was super cold when we got back to Sky View and the sun was going down, which is one thing that sucks about after school running. Our average pace was a 7:45 which is good for me. I'm glad I got plenty of miles, but I was tired and didn't do anything for a couple hours.  I got in a super hard core workout before bed, which was good.

I was hoping to get more miles in, but I was super tired.  My whole body hurt, probably from the core workout yesterday. Well, I decided to do tempo, but it wasn't wih me.  After warming up a mile, I was tired.  My first mile was okay.  I wasn't really lengthening my stride like I try to for faster workouts.  My first mile was a 6:36.  Going up the gradual hill after that was where I knew this workout wasn't going great.  I didn't hit my splits for where I was supposed to be.  The half mile was around a 3:25, then the mile  ended up being a 7:18.  I then took a minute break and reminded myself to simply think here & now. Although my other miles weren't great, this mile would.  It ended up being a 6:27 which was good.  I didn't have a ton of time after that, so I cooled down a mile.

After piano, I ran 2.75 on the treadmill.  I was hoping to do more, but my body was beat. I didn't have any energy, although I was eating a ton of food.  Hopefully tomorrow will be better.  It was kinda fun, but could've been much better.

I went easy, and it was lightly snowing.  It was super pretty.  I felt good, but was still tired. I went up the canyon 2 miles, then was hoping to loop around to Sky View, to get in more miles. A little of the ways back down, I saw Ethan and went back up with him.  It definitely bumped up my average pace.  We turned around and went back to SV, then I ran 2 miles home.  It ended up beimg 6.75, and I was too tired, so it was shorter than planned, but fun.  My average pace was just over 8:00 because I had to go up 6th which is almost a full mile uphill.

Slow milesFast milesTotal Distance

I decided that I should do tempo. I wasn't feeling super tired, which was good.  After a mile warm up I went.  I did my favorite loop which is perfect because I know exactly where I need to be in time.  My first 3 miles were 1) 6:23, 2) 6:32, 3) 6:35.  I felt really good.  The slight uphills kind of got me, but I was able to come back for the rest of the mile.  The total time was a 19:32.  On the last mile, I turned the corner to sprint, but a car was right there, so I hopped in the snow which slowed me down.  I then took a quick 15 second break.  I was still feeling good, so I did one more mile which consisted of mostly downhill.  It was a 6:17 which was good. I was really tired and cooled down back home.

When I got home, I did 4×200 at r pace because I hadn't done ANY speed since before Foot Locker and didn't want to kill myself at USU.  In between each 200, I ran a 200 recovery.  I just did them on my street where Conner measured our 200m.  My times were: 1) 41, 2) 39, 3) 40, 4) 38.  I felt really good, but my calves could feel it.  I was supposed to hit a 40, and these were perfect.  I went inside and waited awhile, then finally did 4 more miles.  They were super slow (like 10 minute mile slow), but they were chill and relaxing.

I did 2 miles premeet with Rachel.  They went by super fast.  After, I was gonna get in 2 more miles, but I kind of forgot.  It was fun, though.  Because I didn't get the extra 2 miles in, though, I didn't reach my mileage goal, but it's okay.

Slow milesFast milesTotal Distance

It was the USU Invite and I was ready to race.  I warmed up way too early (like an hour too early) with Rachel, which wasn't the best, but it didn't affect my race. In the 1600, my goal was a sub 5:40.  I knew it was fast for the first track meet of the year, but it ended up being good.  The only thing that scared me was the heat. When they were putting girls in, they stepped up at 5:10 and 5:20.  In my mind I was freaking out!  I was hoping to be in the first heat.  They then said if you can run under 6 go in the heat. That was a relief.

I ended up starting on the outside lanes with a few other girls.  We had to stay there the first 150m.  When we got to the other side, the long jumpers were in a lane, so we were just sharing one lane which was crazy.  I felt like I had a good start.  It was actually really slow, too (around 42 for 200).  That wasn't bad.  There were only 2 girls in front of me at 400m, and I couldn't let them get away.  Over time, they did slowly pull, but I continued to put effort in.  I forgot how horrible a 200m track is, but it was good.  The last 600 I got on my toes. At around 200 left I questioned if I wanted to go, but I did anyways.  With 100m left I could hear a girl right behind me.  I was hoping to stride it in, but I couldn't let here pass me! We caught one girl, but she got me.  It was okay, I beat my goal! 5:37, I think was the time. I felt really good.  After Rachel's heat, we went on a .75ish cool down outside which is really nice after running inside.  It was cold, but the fact that it was snowing made me so happy.

After a couple of hours the 2 mile finally came around.  I was hoping for a sub 12.  I knew I could hit it after all the tempo, but I didn't know about being on a track. I warmed up by doing laps inside of the field because everyone was mostly gone.  I then took a quick break, then finished to at least a mile with the boys. My calves were really hurting. They put the boys and girls together for the 2 mile because nobody runs it, especially indoor (you've gotta love 16 laps!).  The start was good.  I stuck with Billie and another girl. About 3/4 mile in, our splits were slowing down, so I passed them, and was alone.  The mile was around a 5:50.  I just kept running. The lat 400, my calves were buring.  I coasted in with a mile of 5:58 which meant my time was around 11:51.  It was really good, and fun.  I'm happy I got my goal.

It took a long time to get in a cool down.  I just ended up running to Ethan's house with him and Trevor.  It was fun.  I was dead, but we went slow.  It was almost 2.5 miles.

When I got home, I ran 2.75 on the treadmill.  I thought that was going to get me to 52.5 miles, but I was wrong.  I forgot to do 2 miles yesterday!  I didn't realize this until I was on my living room floor, dead, adding up my mileage.  It was okay, but I was bummed that I didn't get my goal mileage.  The USU meet was definitely fun.

My calves were still dying from Saturday, but I still wanted to get in some tempo. It looked warm outside, so I wore shorts, but sometimes there ended up being a cold headwind.  After warming up a mile, I went up Smithfield Canyon tempo.  I thought that if I went up to the 5 mile turn around, maybe I would get in more tempo, which was kind of true.  My first 2 miles were good 1) 6:08 (super downhill) and 2) 6:48 (slight uphill).  I continued up the next half mile.  I didn't realize how gradual the uphill was, but it continued to get steeper.  That half mile was a 3:27.  I then took a 31 second break, and went back down.  The downhill was really nice and the half mile ended up being a 2:57. I finished one more mile because my calves were burning. The last mile was a 6:26. The total time (including the break) was a 26:20 which I'm happy with.  I then cooled down REALLY slowly home.  It was good.  I was hoping to run more, but I was cold and sore.

Instead of running more, I went night skiing up at Cherry Peak with my mom and brother. It was super fun. I need to get my skiing legs back, though.  Around 10:30pm, I decided to do a fairly hard core workout which went well.

It had been a log day, and I had limited time, so I got ready to run as quickly as possible after school.  I knew that if I went 10 under an 8:00 pace, I would have a little extra time to do some light core.  I went 10 up Smithfield Canyon which was really fun.  It was super relaxing and I was able to think about the millions of things I had to do.  Going up I averaged at 8:00 pace.  My calves were still super sore, so I coasted down the Canyon, but my pace did lower to a 7:45.  The last (uphill) mile slowed my pace to a 7:49, but that was okay.  It was really fun! I'm glad it went well. After, I did a quick, light core workout.

So I was a little behind on mileage, which is not fun to make up for. During 5th hour, I had some skittles (exactly 74) which isn't the best thing before a tempo run.  It took me a while to get going, but I finally began my warm up.  I warmed up a mile, then did my favorite, easy loop for tempo.  My mile times were 1) 6:19, 2) 6:30, 3) 6:30.  That added up to 19:20 which was really good.  My calves were still sore (I had been stretching them a ton), and I didn't want to push it.  I was pretty happy with the times.  After, I wasn't feeling super great.  I still could taste the skittles.  There was a layer of saliva and sugar on my tongue which felt really gross. It took a while for me to get a mile cool down in.

A couple of hours later, I went downstairs and did 8 total miles on the treadmill while I watched the Sandlot 2 with my little brother.  My first 4 miles were in 31:00 which was exactly at a 7:45 pace.  I took a break to get a drink.  Then I ran 4 more in 30:40 which was good. I was gonna take a break during the last set, but I kept telling myself "just one more lap" or "just one more mile," so I got them all done.  It felt really good, and my calves weren't so sore. I then did a medium core workout. Garrett then wanted me to stretch with him, so I did. It felt really good to stretch... I should do it more often.

After school, I planned to just run all over the place to get in miles.  I was gonna run towards sky view, but 3/4 of a mile out I saw the guys running, and I turned around with them. It was really warm, and I was gonna wear shorts, but I knew that when the sun would go down, it would get cold, so I stuck with tights.  Some of the guys were crazy and went shirtless.  They were crazy, and it was super spontaneous that I ran with them, but it was fun.  We went down Summit Dr., then decided to do nature trail which was covered in a layer of snow. The guys stopped a ton, and I was just following them around because I needed the mileage. We then went up towards beauty because Ethan wanted to do hill repeats. As we were passing the building next to Mack Park, the entire debate team just happened to be there taking pictures.  They began cheering, and the guys with their shirts off were pretty embarrassed (it was awesome). When we got to beauty, we did 5 repeats. Because I did a workout yesterday, I didn't take them too hard.  Everybody except Ethan decided they were done, so Ethan stayed behind to do some more.  We passed Mack Park, and stopped to have a snowball fight.  Everybody just ganged up on Landon.  After, we ran back to sv.  The guys were booking it, so I just followed behind. I took a quick break at sv, then ran home. That totalled 6.5, so I did 2.5 more miles, then it got dark. My average pace was around a 7:55.

Three hours later I ran 3 on the ttreadmill and watched AFV.  It was good. I averaged under an 8:00 pace. After, I did a light core workout which was good.  It was a good day, and I'm glad I've almost caught up on mileage.

Drove down with my dad. It was a good day. I didn't warm up enough for the 1 mile, because I was worried I would miss being called.  I then stood there waiting as they called all the heats before mine (I was in the 5th). When they finally got around to mine, the nerves kicked in.  It was nice that the girls around me were super chill.  The mile started out super fast.  The entire first 3 laps, I was just trying to catch the lead pack. The last 2 laps, I was planning to go, but everytime I began, I would get cut off.  It was all good.  I finally got up there the last lap.  On the final stretch I really gave it everything. I knew I was gonna hit the time, but I wanted to really beat the girls around me.  Normally, I can't sprint, but I had a little extra in me. When I crossed the line, I accidentally knocked into a girl, because I couldn't slow my momentum.  I felt really good.  My time was a 5:34 which is my indoor pr, so I was happy.  I cooled down almost a mile outside which always feels good.  I used my spikes, but I haven't worn spikes in awhile, and my calves were definitely feeling it.

A couple of hours later, I warmed uo for the 2 mile.  Again, I don't think I warmed up enough, but it was okay.  I mostly was trying to get myself pumped. I also accidentally entered my seedtime as 12:51 instead of 11:51, which is what I was hoping to hit under.  The first few laps there was a pack, but girls slowly dropped off. I knew if I stuck with the 2 lead girls I would hit my goal time.  Our mile was around a 5:30-40, which was really good/fast. The last three laps, though, I fell behind.  My calves were burning.  I was trying to get on my toes, but it resulted in what felt like heel-striking, but was more flat footed.  The two in front of me also started to go, and I couldn't keep up. The last lap, I sped up quite a bit and finished with a time of 11:40, so I was happy. It was a nice track, being only 5 laps per mile.  I then watched the guys race, and cooled down with them.  We ended up doing 3 miles, which was great.  The entire time I was just trying to keep up with them.  We simply ran around campus which was super fun. My calves were hurting really bad, so my plan for next week is to go easy.

Around 11:30 my dad and I went 8 miles up Smithfield Canyon.  It was in the 30s, so I wore shorts, but it was still pretty cold.  It was raining the whole time and there was a lot of slush.  It was really fun, but slow.  My dad was going slow, so I just went his pace.  My calves were still pretty sore, so I'm glad we went slow.  We averaged around an 8:30 pace, which was good.  Once I dried off, I did 2 miles at 7:50, then did a pretty hard core workout.  It was a good, relaxing day.

The beginning of my run went really well. I ran down to sky view, then looped back home (like golf course backwards  from my house).  The last mile and a half, I wasn't feeling super good.  I was going to get more miles in but had limited time.  My average pace was under 8:00.  I was hoping to atleast get more in later in the evening, but I was so tired, so instead I did homework and went to sleep.

After school, I warmed up a mile, then decided to do tempo up the canyon. I was hoping to do 5, but only ended up doing 3.  It went well, but I definitely could've done better.  I still wasn't feeling the best. Mynsplits were: 1) 6:13 (downhill), 2) 6:45 (some uphill), 3) 6:35 (some downhill).  My calves began hurting after the second mile, and I didn't want to beat them up too much this week. I cooled down the last mile home, but took a slight detour to round out yesterday's mileage. It ended up being longer than I thought, so I just logged it shorter.

After dinner I ran 8 miles on the treadmill.  I watched Hotel Transylvania while doing so.  My first 5 miles were in 37:43 because I kept playing around with the speed.  It makes treadmills more exciting to run on. I took a quick break. The next 3 miles were in 23:09.  I was feeling pretty tired towards the end, but it was a good day of running.  I then did a medium core workout which went well.

It was super warm and I was able to wear shorts which made me super pumped for spring. Today was similar to Tuesday.  The beginning of my run was really good.  I went up the canyon.  1.5 up, I saw the guys doing repeats up Beauty and stopped to talk to them for a minute.  Then, I continued to the 6 mile turn around.  I was actually feeling really good, and my times were showing it. On my way back down I stopped by the guys.  They were done with their workout. I had nothin better to do, so I stopped to talk.  They then went up the canyon, so I went with them.  Ethan and I kept going up as everybody turned around one by one.  We turned around after 2 miles up from Beauty.  When we turned around, I wasn't feeling the greatest- like on Tuesday.  We went down, and I think Ethan noticed I was slowing down.  I turned onto nature trail to make it shorter, and Ethan went back to SV. My average pace went way up the last mile, especially because of the hills. When I got home, I felt super sick.  I didn't do anything for the rest of the evening. I was going to run 3.5 more, but it was best I didn't.  It was a good day, until I felt sick, but there has to be both bad and good days.

This is probably one of my longer premeets, but it shouldn't effect tomorrow too much. I went 3 miles without any technology which felt really good.  I think I averaged around 8:30-45 pace, but I'm not positive. I kept my bun in my hair from school, so I know I went slow enough that it didn't fall out.  During the third mile, I did some short striders, which felt good. I then went around the block twice with Ruby. She hasn't been out running in a while, and she really enjoyed it.  I'm feeling much better, which is good.

Today wasn't the best tempo run, but atleast I got some workout in. I still have a cold from last week.  I started out on my warmup, but decided my ears were cold, so I ran home to grab a headband. That added half of a mile to my warmup.  I warmed up down the hill to the Canyon, so my first tempo wasn't gonna be fast. My fist mile, I felt good.  I was super motivated and I thought I was on pace.  It was a gradual uphill, but I knew I could still hit the time.  I was wrong.  It ended up being a 6:59. I thought I would just have to make up for it this next mile, but a few seconds in my throat began acting up and I couldn't stop coughing. After a 30 second break I started up again.  Halfway, the headwimd got really bad going up.  I was pushing, but knew I wasn't going fast enough. Towards the end, I began coughing again. It sucks being sick. Well, after another break, I finished up the mile which turned out to be a 7:51 (not including breaks). Physically I felt like I was going tempo, but my times were showing it. After a 2 minute break of mentally recouping, I started to go down. The dpwnhill and tailwind really felt good.  I wasn't giving it my all, but I was putting in effort.  The two miles were 6:26 and 6:33 with a 30 second break in between. I then extended my cool down to a mile and a half which included the hill.  It was really slow. After I got warmer, I did a pretty hard core workout and another mile on the treadmill.  I was hoping to get in some more miles, but I need to let my body recover from being sick.  Hopefully I can make up those miles later in the week.  (Sorry for the long entry)

9 up Smithfield Canyon at 7:58 average pace.  I checked the weather app to see the temperature.  It said it was 14 degrees and snowing outside.  It was definitely cold, but there were blue skies the whole time. Smithfield Canyon is super pretty right now with the snow from Saturday.

Later I did 4 miles on the treadmill around 7:45 minute miles.  My cold has mostly gone away, but my throat is super dry which does not make running inside easy.

I was gonna do some hill repeats, but after charging my gps watch, it wasn't working. I noticed that the track had been plowed or something, so I decided to give it a go for some Russian Intervals.  As I was warming up 2 miles to Sky View, it got super warm. The sun was out and I was excited.  Then, the wind kicked in and it got cold again. When I got to the track, it was plowed, but not clear.  Running on it was doable, but sprinting was a whole other story.  There was still a layer of snow, but it was packed.  Sometimes my foot would fall through and I would stumble.  It was hard to sprint, but it was still okay.  I did 2.5 sets of Russians 4×300@rpace w/ 35 second 100 in between. I was hoping for 1:00 300s, but that didn't happen. My first set was 1) 1:06, 2) 1:12, 3) 1:12, 4) 1:13.  They were at about tempo pace, but it was hard running in the snow and at some points, I found it better to run in lane 3. After a 400 recovery, my second set was much better. 1) 1:08, 2) 1:09, 3) 1:10, 4) 1:11.  I did another 400 recovery, but wasn't in the mood to do another full set, so I just did 2. 1) 1:09, 2) 1:12.  I could feel that slight burn from trying to sprint, but my times didn't show it.  I cooled down up the hill 2 miles, slowly.

Later, I did 4 miles on the treadmill faster than 7:45 pace. It felt pretty good.

I did 4 miles premeet because I was planning on going to Boise. It was around 8:45 pace which felt really good.  I did a different loop that avoided uphills, but was still really fun. I got 2 striders in which felt really good.  When I got home, I talked to my parents and we decided not to go to Boise.  There were both pros and cons to either way.  One pro to not going is I might be able to hit a 60 mile week.

Later I did 2 miles on the treadmill at around 7:45 pace.

It was pretty warm after school which was awesome.  I still wore tights, though.  I first went around the block, but realized if I was going to go long, I m8ght want my iPod. I ran from my house to Sky View. I continued past sv to Cedar Ridge. I then extended, but cut down before the Milky Way because that road is scary enough just driving on it.  After I passed sv, I went back home up 6th, and I extended another half mile around the block. It was really fun and full of hills. My average pace was 7:50 and I was feeling super good- ready to race.  During the run, I listened to really happy songs which brought me back to 6th grade when I'd run down the road and wave to everybody.  I waved to every car that passed. It was really fun.  It was pretty slushy, but I felt so good.  Maybe my body needed that long, easy run.

After I got warm, I ran 1.5 more miles on the treadmill at 7:45 pace to get me on track for 60.

I didn't start running until 2:00, but it was a beautiful, sunny day.  I was so pumped when I went outside wearing shorts.  I don't think it was over 30 degrees, but the sun made it much warmer.  I warmed up a mile around the block and was feeling amazing.  After some leg swings, I did my tempo on my favorite loop.  It went awesome. 1) 6:18, 2) 6:24 (some uphill, and a slight headwind coming back), 3) 6:19.  On the last mile I was really pushing.  I felt really good the last 400. I barely missed a sub 19, but it was my best 3 miles this winter, possibly my best 3 straight tempo ever. After a 30 second break, I headed towards the canyon tempo.  My fourth mile was a 6:05, but it was super downhill. I then continued half a mile up the canyon half a mile in 3:14, and cameback down at a 3:02. The fifth mile totalled to a 6:16.  I was feeling awesome.  I stopped for a minute to catch my breath when those 2 miles were over. I was so happy. My average pace was under a 6:20! I think the sun really helped. My cool down mile up golf course hill and home was super slow (10 minutes) but I still felt good. I picked up Ruby and we ran 2 miles at 9:00 pace. She seemed to enjoy it.  I'm glad I could run with her. I love the feeling of enjoying running.  It's hard when there is nobody to run with, but I think my motivation has come back this week. This tempo and yesterday really got me motivated again.

I'm super glad I got 60 miles! That is definitely my highest mileage ever (53.5 was my previous). My knees can feel it, a little, but after a day break, I should feel good for next week. I don't know if I'll hit that high of mileage again until summer training, but we'll see.

The highlighr of my Mondays are reading Conner's letters after school.  Then I go for my run.  I was feeling really tired after last week.  I was hoping to do tempo, but that didn't play out very well.  I warmed up a mile around the block. My stomach wasn't feeling the best for multiple reasons.  I started, though, towards and down golf course hill.  I got my half mile splits: .5) 3:13 1) 3:06 which added up to a 6:19 mile.  I decided then to go up golf course and see how fast I coukd hit it.  Going up, I felt really good.  When I got to the top I was at 2:20 which is 20 seconds slower than going down. That half mile split, though was a 3:35 meaning I slowed down a bit after the hill. The final half mile, I was struggling.  I finished with a 3:38 half mile which totaled to 13:23 in 2 miles.  I was not super happy with it.  My stomach still hurt, probably from the food I ate yesterday during the super bowl.  I didn't cool down.

Around 9:00 I ran 5 miles on the treadmill in 38:30, so under 7:45 which felt good.  As I did so I watched youtube videos which kept me going. I wasn't feeling good enough for a hard core workout, so I did some light core.

After school I only did 4 miles. I felt really good until 2 miles, so I turned around. My pace slowed way down the last 2 miles, but it was okay.

After mutual I ran 4 on the treadmill under 31 minutes.  It felt good, a lot better than earlier today.  I also did a pretty hard core workout which felt good.

I didn't want to feel sick, so I did 2 easy miles, then I ran to beast which made my warmup a little over 3.5.  I ran up beast 4 times.  The entire time durig each repeat I was really focused.  My times were shockingly consistent, even though it was my first hill workout since before Foot Locker. My splits were 1) 1:13, 2) 1:12, 3) 1:13, 4) 1:15.  I was going to do more, but I knew my times woukdn't stay consistent. Also I was feeling really tired, so I then did 2 beauty repeats, but they weren't very good (like a 41 and 42). I ran home after that.  It's hard to cool down at a decent pace after hills, and my pace was way slow.

I later did 6 on the treadmill.  I don't remember the total time, but they average under 7:45.  I took 2 breaks (after mile 3 and mile 5). I've been feeling pretty tired, possibly from last week.

My watch wouldn't lock on, so I ran a mile to Mack Park. On the way to Macl Park I could almost taste the inversion, it was pretty bad.  At Mack Park, I did a few strider until my watch locked on.  I continued my premeet on Sunnyside.  It was super pretty, and the inversion was gone.  It felt really good. The last mile, I again could taste the inversion. It was mostly when cars passed. I'm feeling really good, though. I averaged 8:45 pace which is good for premeet.

It was a really good day.  We made it to the oval right on time.  I had plenty of time to relax. I began my warmup around 7:50ish because they were behind, and I wasn't sure exactly when they would start the 2 mile.  I warmed up outside, and did 1.3 miles.  I want to bring up my warmup miles during meets where I only do one event, but I don't want to over warmup, so this meet I decided to just bring it up a little. When I finished, I just relaxed.  When they called I was feeling ready.  They didn't give us lane assignments, so I was on the outide or the second row.

I got out nicely.  I mostly wanted to stick with the lead pack.  I did get passed by a few girls, but just stuck with them.  I then got passed by two Davis girls.  I thought they would have stuck with the lead pack, but on one of the curves we lost them.  I then just decided to keep Aubrey (from Davis) in my line of sight.  I was confused with the number or laps, because they had one too many.  I was way confused!  On the second to last lap, she pulled away.  On the last lap, I quickly calculated the time and realized I had one left! I was a little mad, because I started my sprint a little too late. I felt really good sprinting, and I finished under 11:30! I was pretty happy, but my body was tired.  I'm happy with the race, but I wish I had known the number of laps or kept track better, then I would have been able to pr (one second away!).  I love that track and was glad to run on it atleast one this year.

After I watched the boys race, I ran .7 outside, then went inside hoping to run around the track another mile.  I ran with a bunch of guys from the Hobby Jogger project which was way fun.  I did 5 laps, so around 1.2 miles.  It was a good day.

It was a really fun run.  I didn't start until 2:00 because I had to watch the olympic trials which was fun to watch. I did the same loop I did last week, down to sv, then to Ceda Ridge, then back to sv, and back home. I felt really good the first 3 miles.  My third mile actually ended up being a 6:45 (so that is fast). Towards the end my body felt so tired.  I just continued on.  My pace slowly dropped, but I kept pushing.  While I was running I realized that I hadn't eaten much since lunch yesterday (at Olive Garden).  My body was so tired.  I finished 10.3 at 7:50 pace.  Then I had some cereal and apple juice.  I was exhausted, but a long run was what I needed.

Later I did .5 to finish up my miles to get 50.

I started my run a little after 10.  It was really nice outside, the rain cleared out the inversion which was wonderful.  I warmed up 2 miles around 8 min mile pace.  I really wanted caramel apples while I was running for some reason, so I told myself that if I hit my 800, I would get myself some.  I didn't want to run down to the track because I knew it was snow covered, so I did my repeat from my house.  The majority was gradual uphill.  I ran an 800 at my 2 mile pace.  It felt really good, but I could feel it.  I started from my corner to avoid slush, so I kept checking my watch the last stretch. I know I hit it (a 2:51), because I hit .51miles in 2:54! Then I recovered a mile and a half.  When I got home, I did 4 200s at rpace with a 200 recovery. They went really well.  I forgot how good it feels to do a workout with sprints.  It's hard, but short.  My times were 1) 38, 2) 36, 3) 38, 4) 35.  My form felt really good and so I just went with it. The 38s there was a headwind, but back (35 and 36), there was a downhill and tailwind, so they felt really good. After I did a mile cool down.  I was hoping to do 4 more, but I might take it easier for Simplot this week.

It was so beautiful outside today! I was gonna run later in the evening, but I couldn't pass up the chance to run in the sun.  It was maybe 37ish degrees, but the sun was out, so it was way warm.  I was able to wear shorts and short sleaves. I ran 8 up Smithfield Canyon and averaged an 8:00 mile.  My first mile was around 7 minutes, so I backed off on my pace.  It felt really good to go nice and slow.  I'm sore from sprinting yesterday, but atleast I could run it out today.  My shoulder also hurt because I think I slept on it funny. Also, I didn't eat a ton today because I was so busy, I didn't think about it until I was running and my body was tired.  These things weren't super horrible because I was so happy that the sun was out, but I did notice them.  I'm ready for Simplot.

I took Ruby on my premeet; she had a blast.  I did 3 miles easy, but I felt so good my average pace ended up being a 7:50. It was warm, but overcast like a humid overcast day in the middle of the summer.  There was a slight breeze, but it felt way good.  I didn't go as far as planned, but I don't want to overdo it.  I'm ready for tomorrow.

I felt really good this race.  Before we got to the meet, I had been hydrating a ton because the track gets pretty hot while you're running.  When we got there, I was worried I had hydrated too much and it would mess up my race, but I guess it was perfect because it helped my race more. I did a half mile shake out with the guys which felt pretty good, I went a little fast, but it felt good to stride out.  After watching the guys run, I was getting nervous.  My goal was a sub 11:40 because I knew that I would get to finals with that time no matter what (compared to previous years).  I warmed up a mile with a girl from Lehi named Sami, I think.  She was super nice and it was awesome doing a warmup with somebody because I haven't done a warmup with someone in a long time.  We went about a mile. I was ready right on time and actually got in all of my stretches which was great.  I had eaten a perfect amount of food, but for some reason I was hungry, probably because I'm used to eating after my run around that time. Okay, now to the race.

We started out way fast.  I know that this race tends to be that way, so I went up with the front girls on the second lap.  I passed the leaders of the pack because they really slowed down before the second lap was over. Our 400 was still way fast, but I knew it would make it easier to hit my goal and I was feeling good, so I just kept going. The rest of the race is a blur because the laps tend to get too repetative.  I knew I just needed to hit around a 44 lap.  I was on pace the whole time.  It didn't really feel like a race, other than that there were people watching, and I was running away from the pack.  The leader was way ahead, so I just kept pushing.  I felt really good until the last 800m.  My body was feeling tired.  I just kept going.  I was really worried that the girls behind me would catch me, but I don't know when they dropped.  I kind of sprinted then, too, but it wasn't too hard.  I only really put energy into the last lap because I had 44 seconds to hit my goal.  My laps didn't sound or feel even, but it was okay. I definitely didn't feel as if I had to put my all into it, which was good. I was happy with my finishing time. My body felt amazing.

I then talked to some people, then cooled down a mile in the dark which was kinda sketch. It was way fun to hang out with people and to watch the races, but I got really tired. We didn't leave until the girls mile started, and I couldn't sleep on the way home. I'm pretty pumped for Saturday, but I'm gonna need to get more sleep.

I had an awesome morning prepping for the race, but my legs were still a little tired.  I drove up with my mom around 11, and we had plenty of time to watch some races.  I wasn't ready to start my warmup.  Now that it's over, I can admit that I was so nervous going into this race- especially because I was seeded second.  My goal was to pr, that was it.  I didn't care if I was gonna place, all I wanted was a pr.  When I started my warmup, it was super pretty outside.  I loved how warm it was! I only did a mile, but I guess that was all I needed. After I grabbed my shoes and got everything prepped, I went down to check in with Emily. I got in all of my stretches again which was pretty nice.  The striders felt good.

When the gun went off, my nerves totally left.  I just ran.  The first few laps I don't really remember. I just remember passing the pack and focusing on the girl in the front.  I felt really good, but I was worried my first mile was way too fast.  It ended up being around a 5:30.  I was running alone pretty much the entire time.  On the 150m mark, I could see the pack 50m behind me.  It really pushed me, and I noticed the gap getting slowly bigger over time.  I can admit that I wanted to give up at the mile and last 800 mark, but both times I thought that would be stupid because I was in a good place.  Because my pace was quicker than normal, I wasn't positive on my times that I was supposed to hit.  I know my splits were fairly consistent. The majority of the race was a blur. The last 400 I kicked, but I didn't feel much faster.  The last 300, I heard the bell for the leader's last lap, and I kicked some more.  On the last 100, I realized this was the last of indoor, so I'd better give it my all.  I didn't feel like it was faster, but I could feel the last of what I had in me. I didn't know my time because they stopped the clock.

I never imagined getting second at Simplot, so I'm happy, but I couldn't have done it without all the motivation from other people and Conner's help with workouts.  I'm happy about the pr, too. I cooled down about a mile with Emily which was fun.  When I got back, Ethan invited me to cool down with him.  It ended up also being with some crazy fast guys, too.  Luckily, they didn't go very fast at all.  It was really fun. It was a fun day!

It felt so good to get back into running!  Because this was my last chance to get in a break before track, I took a bit of extra time off.  It was a nice, sunny day, so I wore shorts which felt wonderful. I ran with Ruby and we averaged under an 8:30 pace.

It was a beautiful day, but I spent the entire day babysitting, so around 5:30 I did 5 miles up the canyon.  It was starting to get dark, and it cooled down really fast, but it felt amazing.  I went further up so I could cut up nature trail, even though it was snow covered. It was pretty fun, but hard to not slip.  My average pace was a little over 8, but it felt good, and as I was running home the sunset was beautiful.  I like Cache Valley sunsets.

We'll just go with that I ran 2 miles.  It was track tryouts, which are not my most favorite part of the season. I was hoping to do more, but my body was so beat.  We did a lot of random workouts like hurdle drills, core, jumping, and the 400. On the 400, I got a 1:12 which is sadly I think my pr.  Sprinting isn't my thing.  It felt good, and I just strided in the last 100.  The 200 mark was a 34 which was nice.  We didn't get much warmup which wasn't smart, and I was already dead from the workouts, but I felt really happy after... like the runner's high finally hit.  I ran a mile after with Rachel, Lauren, and Kelsey.  It was fun. That mile made me pumped for track.

So, I was pretty sore from yesterday.  In the morning, I took the ACT then went home and ate lunch. I didn't have a car, so I ran 2 miles to sv with a drawstring bag.  It felt really good to run, but it was awkward with the bag.  We did a ton of really hard workouts.  When we got to the running event/station we had to do the pacer instead of the mile.  I was pretty bummed out because the mile is the only thing I'm good at during ttryouts. Well, it was easy, but it sucks running back and forth.  They made us stop at 80. It was around .8ish miles. I was super lightheaded from all of the things we did, and after we went inside to get a drink. That was one of those times that water has never tasted better. A few of us did an 800 around the track easy.  It felt good to loosen out our joints.  Then we stretched.  My whole body has all-around never been this sore.  When I got home, I tried to do another couple of miles, but I only did one.  My form was pretty corrupt and I was so tired. It was a beautiful day, though.

In the morning, I went on an easy run because I needed to run.  I was super sore, still.  It was nice not havig school. I went up the Canyon around 10:15, and it felt like a cool spring day.  I turned around 3.5 up, but coming back down, I turned up Birch because it looked so inviting. It was nice until the fork, then there were a lot of puddles. After the turnoff for the pyramids, it became ice.  It was an adventure, but I didn't fall. My average pace went from under 8 to an 8:15, but it was worth it.  The rest of the trail was icy, but when I got on the road I felt so refreshed.  My body needed it. It ended up beig 6.2 miles.

At 1, I ran 2.5 to tryouts. I was so sore, and so was everybody else. We did the 200, and I got a 33 which is my pr.  It felt really good.  The coaches could tell we were sore, but they still worked us a bit.  It was really warm which was nice.

Coach could tell that we were all pretty beat from tryouts, so he had us do a shakeout run.  We ended up doing Sunnyside. It was really hot and dry, but it was way nice.  I just stuck with Rachel.  We went pretty slow, but it was what we needed. We probably averaged around 8:30 pace.

Did a warmup lap with the team. when we went to begin church run for tempo, we shortened it so we could start with the boys because they got off earlier. We were supposed to do tempo however far felt good.  I was thinking 7 would just do all 3 because my body felt fine after plenty of recovery.  I started with Rachel, but she dropped pretty early. My goal was a 6:20, and the boys were not too far ahead of me.  I felt really good, my form felt amazing. 3/4 a mile out, the pack of boys all turned around. I just kept going.  Caleb was still in front of me, so I had a target to catch.  He stopped at the mile.  My first mile was a 6:10, which was way fast. My hamstrings were feeling tight, but I thought it was soreness. I kept going. This half mile was a struggle.  There was nobody in front of me to push me.  I just kept going off time, hoping I wasn't slowing down too much.  It ended up being a 6:35ish half mile which wasn't super good. When I turned around, coach turned around early to stick with me.  It helped a lot. I was still feeling tired, but I pushed this half mile, and stopped at the 2 mile.  That last half mile was a 3:07, so pretty much perfect. We took a minute and a half break.  It was pretty hot and dry, but it felt so good. I started up and finished the last mile.  It hurt, but I kept pushing. That mile was a 6:07, which was good. I was tired when I finished, but it felt good.  The total time (excluding the break) was 19:00.  That was good, and the fast miles balanced out the one slow half mile. I was happy with it, especially this early in the season.  We cooled down a mile, then stretched.  It was a fun day.

I was ready for almost any workout today.  It was 10x200 at rpace with a 200 in between easy and 2x400 at rpace with a 400 in between. Full recovery between the two sets.  It felt so good to be on the track. We warmed up a mile on the xc course which was pretty fun. I was ready to start. My splits were 36, 39, 36, 37, 37, 37, 39, 38, 39, 38. They felt really good, almost easy.  The last 4 were a little difficult, but I just pushed through them. I felt physically amazing, and mentallu ready.  After a quick pause and a slow 400, I started my 400s. The first one was a 1:19, it felt good and I strided out the last part.  The second one was 1:15.  It was nice because coach was there to push me, instead of going alone. My times for the 200s were supposed to be 40s, and my 400s were supposed ro be 1:20s, so I'm glad they were fast. I cooled down with the guys over a mile.  I just started with them thinking the girls were right behind us, and just stuck with them. It felt way good. We then stretched and did a little core.

When I got home, I ran a quick mile with Ruby, then realized I forgot to read Conner's letter, so I went home to do that instead of more running.

Sounds like a good workout. Good job Claire! Keep it up.

Today's workout was cruise intervals which is 6x1000 at tempo pace with a minute rest. We warmed up around a mile, it was a different loop than normal, but still fun. It was hard to get going, but once we started, it was over pretty quick.  I wish I had started with the guys, but I started with the girls. I was supposed to hit a 3:56 which is a 6:20 mile. My splits were: 3:34, 3:48, 3:45, 3:47, 3:50, 3:44.  The last three were the hardest. On the first two, Rachel and Clara stuck close to me, which was helpful. The first 400 was always around a 1:30 which was fast, and the last 200, I usually had a minute left to hit, so I backed off.  On the last one, Coach stuck with me which helped a ton.  When I finished, I still felt physically able to do another, but Coach told me it was good to hit 6 fast ones this early in the season, so I was fine. They weren't super hard, which was different.  Usually I have to go super hard, but it actually was pretty comfortable. Running on the track may have made a difference. It was a good workout, but it's hard doubling up workout days.  We cooled down a mile on the turf all together which was kinda fun. I do need to get more miles today, but we'll see if I run any more.

Premeet today, but I didn't exactly treat it like one.  During practice we Mack n back really slow.  At Mack Park we did 6 strides. The breaks in between were super long.  I don't think anybody wanted to go first, so we just stood there forever. The boys went extra, but I just went straight back with the girls which ended up being only 2 miles. When I got home, I realized I should have gone with the guys and gotten more miles. Around 5, I went 5 up the canyon. It was starting to get dark, but it was super nice outside. I took a detour on the way home to get over a quarter mile, so I could round out my miles. I've been super tired, so hopefully my legs will feel decent tomorrow.

Today was the blue and white which is our intersquad meet. Mentally, I hadn't exactly prepared, but I did set goals and I drank a lot of water because I knew it was gonna be warm.  It was such a beautiful day! I warmed up half a mile with the team.  Over an hour before the mile, I warmed up because I thought the 2 mile would take less time.  I warmed up 1.25 miles on the course.  When I got onto the track, I just hung out and helped with hurdles.  They combined the mile boys and girls. When we started, I felt really good.  I wasn't too far behind Connor.  Abby told me I should beat him, and I wondered if I hsd a chance.  I stuck behind Jordan Thomas. Our first lap was a 75, which was way fast.  My goal was a sub 5:35, and that meant around a 1:23 lap. The next lap, I was still 8 seconds ahead of time.  Jordan got further away.  This was when I realized how hard the mile can be.  I just kept pushing through.  I got passed by Ethan, a freshman, and stuck behind him for awhile. Our 3rd lap we were right on pace.  I tried to sprint, but i didn't have a ton of energy. The last 100, I heard a ton of guys behind me.  I'm pretty sure I got passed by like 6 guys, maybe more.  I didn't have the energy to sprint, but I still got a 5:33, so that was all that mattered.  It was really hot and my throat burned. I did about a mile recovery, then it was time for the 800.  My goal was a sub 2:45 which isn't super fast, but I mostly did it as a workout.  They mixed boys and girls, again. Abby started out way fast.  I caught her by the last 300, and passed her.  I continually was trying to motivate her.  She seemed to be struggling the last 200.  I passed her trying to get her to go with me.  She still did awesome. My time was a 2:37, which is only seconds off my PR, so that was good.  I didn't even feel tired.  We cooled down a mile, then the meet was pretty much over. I went to Subway after which was super good.  I told myself that if I hit my goals, I could get subway.

Coach wanted us to go long and easy today.  We started up 6th to do golf course.  I felt reallt good, but I didn't want to leave the girls. Most of the boys went on lower canal, so only a few guys were ahead of me. After a 9 minute mile, I dropeed the girls.  It took quite a few miles to get my average pace down to 8. Ethan was going pretty fast, and I couldn't see him after the second mile.  When I got to the point to extend I thought 'why not?' and went on the trail.  Surprisingly, there wasn't too much ice.  It was muddy, but worth it.  My pace did bump slower, but when I got onto Smithfield Canyon, it dropped back to 8.  I went up the canyon quite a ways. I felt as if I was in no mans land because I hadn't seen anybody for miles. I turned around and went back to sky view.  This is where I realized how dry it was.  I needed chap stick and water, and my nose/throat felt pretty dry. It was also pretty windy, but a dry wind. When I got to sv, I had 7.75, so I grabbed my stuff and finished a lap around the track.  When I got on the track, there were more people.

It was the Shamrock Shuffle, and coach told us we could do tempo, so I decided to do a fun run!  I really like fun runs... they're so chill. After registering, I warmed up a mile on the xc course.  I felt really good. I then saw Megan!!! I was so happy to see her, so I warmed up about half a mile with her. I didn't do a ton of stretches before, but I was just doing it tempo.  I got my music and headed to the start.  When we started I felt really good.  Striding out felt way nice.  Then there was the hill, which I don't go up tempo very often.  Usually I run up this hill at 10 min pace.  It burned towards the top, but luckily we only turned up to the milky way.  The downhill felt reallt nice. Spencer was way ahead, and I passed the second guy, and there was a guy right next to me.  He really pushed me.  We turned down, and I still felt good.  I deleted my mile splits, but I remember the first was under 6:20, but I don't remember to second. I just kept running.  When we turned onto the road for Cedaridge, my legs felt it.  The guy dropped, but I noticed I had also slowed down.  I pushed to the last half mile, but didn't sprint at all when I got there.  I was wearing my trainers, not my flats, so getting on my toes wasn't as easy. I got passed by 3 guys, I think, and finished. When I finished I felt a little sick, but after a drink I felt better. I definitely didn't have enough sleep, and I had had 3 already hard days, so I was happy with it.  I'm pretty sure the course is longer than a 5k, but my time was a 19:56. I was way pumped to get a box of lucky charms for getting first; that's an awesome prize.  A while later, I did 1.5 cool down with Spencer which was fun.

Around 6, it started getting dark, and I had to run some more.  My body was pretty beat, but going 4 miles felt way good.  The sun was setting, so running on Hillside was way pretty.  On my way back it was dark.  It was a beautifully warm evening. I averaged under an 8 minute pace.

The weather could not make a decision today.  So, we got outside, and it was decent weather, good enough for shorts and a long sleeve. Yeah, that was before we started our workout. After our mile warmup around the track, the wind and clouds came.  Our workout was 4x1000@ipace w/ 3 minute recovery.  Later we had 4x200 w/ 200 recovery. For the 1000s I was supposed to hit a 3:37. Mentally, I was feeling really good. Clara tried to stick with me which helped. My first was hard, but it felt good. My time was 3:35.  The second one, it started to lightly rain.  It didn't effect anything. I got a 3:34.  Then, the wind started to kick in. The third was pretty bad.  Running on the back stretch was a wall of wind.  The rain hit my face like little pins, it was so cold.  I couldn't feel my hands or face.  My eyes were closed when I looked up.  My legs weren't too cold, surprisingly. The front stretch was hard to stride. Mentally, I was pretty broken, but I still pused through. My time was a 3:45. Coach was nice to let me draft the last 100m off of him. It was cold! When I started the last one, it started to snow.  That wasn't much better.  I started, but my first 200 was a 35.  I kept pushing.  Similar to the first, it was bad.  On the last 200 Coach let me draft, which helped.  I passed him the last 100, but finished with a time of 3:52.  I was pretty bummed that my times were slow, but that weather. I was gonna go inside, but decided to do the 200s on the tailwind stretch. They were way good.  I did them with Clara, who was kicking my butt, but I never let her pass me. They were 40, 39, 39, 36.  The track had a layer of snow on it, and it was pretty slick, so these times were kinda hard to hit, but they were perfect on pace.  On the last one we really went hard. When we were done, it was warm again with a light snow . Kelsey joined me and Clara on a 1.25 cool down.  When we were finished, my body was cold, and it felt like I had been skiing all day.  We stretched inside.

Around 6:20, I ran 3.25 miles easy.  It was a little windy, but not too cold. The sun was out. My averagr pace was under 8.  I also did a medium core workout before bed.

Today we did a different workout called over-and-unders.  It was 2 minutes of 5 seconds faster than tempo pace (5:15), then 2 minutes 10-15 seconds slower than tempo (5:30-35).  Coach wanted me to do 5 sets, so about 20 straight mintutes. He told us that if the workout didn't make sense, just do tempo.  It was getting chilly when we got outside, and I was wearing a headband, shorts, and a long-sleeve shirt. Most of the girls and I warmed up the first mile out to Cedaridge, then we would do the last 3ish miles of the run for the workout.  The headwind out was pretty strong, so we were hoping to have a tailwind coming back.  I was feeling really good, and I started the first 2 sets fast. While I was passing the middle school, it started to hail, though. It was cloudy, but I didn't expect hail.  It didn't hurt too bad, but it wasn't fun.  When I turned up and began going back, the wind changed, so that didn't help. The hail was off and on, and sometimes it snowed. My pace slowly went up, but on each set made it waver. It was weird, on the unders, I felt like I was going too slow, but on the overs, my pace felt too fast. I took the wrong road coming back, but I made my way to the main road. When I finished half a mile out from sv, I felt pretty tired, but good. I did 3.1 miles with an average pace of 6:25. I cooled down and picked up all of the girls.  That was about a mile (I luckily  had a gps watch). When we got back onto the track, I did a mile wih Ethan and Kelsee.  It was a fun day, but the weather couldn't make a decision, again.

Later I did 3 miles on the treadmill because I didn't want to run in the snow. I attempted to do some core, but was tired after a minute plank, and it was late, so that was all I did.

Premeet! I wore tights because I didn't trust the weather. The girls decided to do tree of life, then we extended onto Milky Way.  It was super muddy from the snow.  Luckily, we didn't slip. When we got onto the road, we did 4 strides pretty far apart. They felt good. It snowed some, but it was way fun. When we got onto the track, we did 2 strides on the snow covered turf, and finished to three. I should've gone further, but I was pretty swamped with homework and never got the extra miles.

When we got to the meet, I was freaking out because I thought I wasn't gonna have any time to warm up for the 2 mile, and my bus was the last one to get to Weber.  Luckily, they ended up not having it at all, so I wasn't so stressed.  We still didn't have a ton of time to warm up for the mile, so we were off pretty quick.  We warmed up 3/4 of a mile, then when we were on the track, we did about another quarter.  I got in 4 strides, which is really rare.  My goal time was a sub 5:33. The start was a little rough, but after the first 200, I got into game mode.  The first lap was pretty fast.  I was ahead. The entire time, I was waiting for somebody to come up behind me, but nobody ever did.  The last lap, I was either a little behind or a little ahead, but it made me go faster. I felt really good after.  My time was a 5:29, which is around where I was peaking as a freshman, so I'm pretty pumped for the mile this season.  I did a recovery mile with some girls, then waited for the 800m.  Because they didn't have the 3200, I kinda had to do the 800.  I've only ran it 3 other times, and I'm not crazy about it.  The first lap was a blur, all I remember was passing Abby on the 300m.  The second lap was weird.  I should have tried catching the pack, but I didn't. The headwind on the back stretch was pretty rough.  I didn't notice it during the mile. My time was a 2:35 which is half a second slower than my pr, so that's good. I need to figure out how to run the 800m, but it's not really my event, so I don't want to focus on it a ton. After, I cooled down 2 miles with Rachel.  It felt really good. The meet went by way fast, when we got back the 4x400 was finishing up.  It was a pretty fun dual meet.

Are you strictly a distance runner? Or do you sprint as well?

From Claire on Tue, Mar 22, 2016 at 15:46:03 from 75.169.193.246

I'm more of a distance runner. Sprinting isn't my thing, but I could definitely work on it.

From XCAnimal on Tue, Mar 22, 2016 at 15:54:15 from 70.209.129.119

I am not saying that you have to work on your sprints. Distance is the only kind of running that I really enjoy.

We were supposed to take team pictures, but nobody knew when.  I was wearing my uniform top, and I got a nice sunburn on my shoulders and chest.  We did a bunch of random loops and would come back to the track to see if they were ready yet. Sometimes, we ran a few laps around the track, other times we ran tree of life or mack and back with some random turns.  It was pretty random but fun.  The boys were going really slow, so I was with them the whole time.  They were going around an 8:15 pace, so sometimes, I was leading. It was really fun and chill.  The beginning was cold, but it warmed up towards the end. After pictures, I ran half a mile more.  Ethan wanted to go further, and we saw the freshman, so we did Sunnyside with them.  It was a nice run, and those 5 miles averaged a 7:45, but they felt really good.  The last mile, my left knee was hurting, so when I got home I iced it a bit.

Around 1:00, Ethan and Spencer showed up. Yesterday we had talked about possibly doing the Pyramids, and we did!  It was way fun!  Our pace was way slow, but going up was hard. We took a lot of stops, and at some points we were speed-hiking (kind of), but it was a good workout. We stopped at all of the peaks to take in the view, which was amazing, like always. Some parts were slick, but it wasn't too bad.  Going uphill was great, but when we turned around to come down my knee started hurting.  I don't think hitting the ground so hard helped. I always take my time going downhill, so the guys both ran ahead, but were nice enough to stop and wait. I really like that hike/trail, and running it is a blast, too. When we got down to Ethan's car, we ran 3 more miles in Smithfield Canyon nice and slow.  They were some good miles, and it was way chill, which was nice. I'm glad we were able to do it!

We warmed up to where we were doing hills for the day.  It was the upper road, that turned onto the golf course hill. We started towards the bottom and went one minute hard.  I was able to turn onto golf course and I made it to a red fence.  We were told to do 7-9. Clara stuck with me on the first few, which helped.  Although the boys sprinted further up, we ended up recovering with them as they came back down. The first 3 felt really good.  On the fourth, I could feel the acid in my legs.  It started to hurt more and more. Sometimes we were able to start with the boys. The 6th and 7th really hurt, and I didn't nearly make it as far.  I got pretty light headed.  I told myself that if I stuck with Jordan on this last one, I would be good. It was better to do that hard one above 2 bad ones.  I did 8 repeats, and felt pretty good about them. The turnover when it got steep was always difficult, but it helped mentally. It was pretty dry, which didn't help.  My energy was gone at the end. We ran back as a cool down. We did some hip exercises, and getting down on my knee hurt.  It didn't hurt during the run, which was good. After a while, Ethan and I went 3 more miles.  We did 2 on a random loop, then one more on the track.  They weren't super fast, but they felt good. The last lap on the track, I tried barefoot. It was fun, but felt weird. When I got home I did a pretty hard core workout.  I haven't done core in a while, but it went well.

I got new shoes, which might help with my knee. I'm pretty pumped because my current pair had 800+ miles on them.  I got my previous pair in the middle of last summer, so they're pretty worn out.

I had no energy yesterday, so premeet was perfect.  We did 4 miles that were pretty random. Our average pace was 8:30 and the boys were going pretty slow, so Abby and I just hung with them. We did 3 ups, which felt really good. I may or may not run 2 more miles today, we'll see, I've got a lot of homework.

Today was a dual meet against Northridge at home today.  4 hours of sleep the night before definitely was not a smart thing to do before a meet. I warmed up with Kelcee (the sophmore) a mile.  It was pretty nice weather. We did start a little early, but it was still okay. I was not in race mode at all.  I was thinking about shooting for an 11:45 3200 because I didn't want to race a dual meet hard, but Coach told me I should run one race hard and leave it all on the track.  I then got pretty nervous, but the strides helped get everything out. They combined the boys and girls, and coach wanted me to stick with Jordan T and Andrew. We started out way too fast, around a 74 first lap.  The group of guys was still pretty far ahead.  I backed off a bit, and just let my legs go. The first mile was a little over a 5:30.  Everytime I came around, the gap between me and the pack of boys got smaller and smaller. I forgot how long the 3200 was. It just kept going. My body felt pretty great. On the second to last lap, I caught them, but Doyle pulled away. The last lap I sprinted around Jordan N, and stuck behind Jordan T. He pulled away the last 100, and I couldn't catch him. It was nice having the guys push me.  My time was a 11:30.92, so that was good. I was happy, but my body was pretty tired. My hamstrings were pretty tight, so I stretched. I then did a cool down with Ethan, who killed it. We did tree of life.  I didn't want to do the 1600, and I didn't have to. I jogged around with some of the girls who were warming up, then talked to a bunch of people. They were making calls for the 1600, and I decided to do it. I was hoping for a 5:45. While I was trying to get motivated/warmed up, I was saying some random stuff because I was out of it. I was just running in circles, too. When we finally started, I realized that I was racing. I stuck with a Northride girl until the 200, then passed her. My first lap was pretty fast, but I just kept going. The 800 was pretty fast. The last 400, I was right on pace, but I felt good enough to sprint. The last 10 feet Ethan yelled something that caught me off guard, making me giggle and I slowed down. It was okay, though. My time was 5:42.72, so it wasn't as fast as my first mile in the 3200, but it was good for being pretty tired.  I cooled down with Clara, then hung around. It had gotten pretty cold, so I left home early because I was hungry. It was a good meet, but I don't know how sane I was. (Haha, sorry for the super long entry)

I don't know if all of these miles shouldbe considered slow, but we did log and easy. It was pretty chilly, but one we started running we warmed up. The boys were not going fast the first 2 miles, so I just stuck with them. Clara was with us, but turned around early. They then sped up, but I couldn't lose em. We went 4 up Smithfield Canyon. It was a pretty big pack of guys. The last half mile, Connor really pushed the pace, and I barely hung on. At some point we lost coach. When we got to the top, we all stretched. Our average pace going up was a 7:40. They said they were gonna go pretty easy down, so I thought I'd be able to keep up with them. Our pace got faster because going down is much easier. One of our miles was around a 6:43, which is much faster than I had planned. Our average pace was 7:20, which is definitely not long and easy pace for me. It was way fun, though! One thing about runnin with the guys, though, is they're much quieter than girls. I probably talked the most. My knee did start to hurt when we had 1.5 left, which kinda sucked. It was way nice, but I will probably postpone the workout to Saturday so I don't kill my body. I should have done more mileage, but I won't stress about it.

It took me a while to get going, but I started to go long and easy.  1.5 out, I started to feel pretty sick, so I turned around.  Then, my knee was hurting, so I cut up nature trail which only got me to 2.5. A couple hour later, I ran some more, but this time I went up Birch.  Running on the trail didn't hurt as bad.  I got to the second gate, but couldn't got any further due to construction. Hopefully, the trail will still be there when they're done. Coming down, I turned left onto a random trail I had xc skied once and only ran twice.  It was pretty fun, and I knew it somehow looped back to my neighborhood. Going down the hill my knee hurt really bad, so I stopped a few times.  That ended up being only 4, but it was pretty fun exploring. I decided not to push it too far, due to my knee.

I was gonna do tempo, but my knee was still hurting. I decided to try 3 with Ruby, then hope it would feel good enough for tempo. Half a mile out, it hurt really bad, so I finished the loop around the block. I talked to my parents, and they said I should take two days off because it would be better to have a few days out over the whole season. I was super bummed, but I did some core later.

It was super snowy, ans I had hoped he track would clear off as the day went on, but it didn't. I decided to switch today with Friday's workout so I would not have to run on a snow-covered track. It was still snowing around 4, and I had procrastinated my run long enough. The workout was 8 to 10 x 25-35 second hill repeats.  I though beauty would be the perfect place. I warmed up 1.5 to the hill. I did it 10 times, and my times were pretty consistent. My average split up was 36 which was good. I used to be happy with a 38, so I either have improved or finally figured out how to do hills. The first 4 were feeling great. The 5th one, I had to dodge a car, so it was a 38. The sixth and seventh were around 37. The last 3 hurt a lot, but they were all 36. I then went up the canyon another mile, and while coming down I cut up nature trail which rounded out to 7. I would go further, but right now I want to be safe on my knee. It was super wet, but way good. I could definitely feel the repeats later.

It was a nice blizzard while I ran, but it was super fun. I bundled up quite a bit, then finally started. Just went up Smithfield Canyon. The snow was really pretty, but there was an off and on headwind. 3.5 up I got pretty hot, so I ditched my jacket. I turned around half a mile later, and the headwind blew pretty hard. That was when I regretted droppig off my jacket. I didn't want my knee to hurt, so I didn't push too hard. When I got to the bottom of the canyon, it finally stopped snowing. My average pace was around 8:28.

A couple of hours later I finally was warm again and ran a mile on the treadmill. Then I did some light core

Today's workout was cruise intervals. Luckily I had the car, so I was able to drive to the track. When I got there, Jordan and Landon had just finished warming up, so I talked to them for a minute. The track had a smokey/misty effect due to the evaporating snow which was really cool. There were still spots of snow, but lane one was clear from Ethan's shovelling on Monday. I then  warmed up a mile on the track backwards. I did not want to start my workout because I hadn't yet mentally prepped. The time I was supposed to hit was a 3:56 which is a 6:20 mile. I knew I could hit it for atleast 8 repeats. My times were 1) 3:52, 2) 3:54, 3) 3:50, 4) 3:53, 5) 3:54, 6) 3:57, 7) 3:54, 8) 3:54. They were pretty consistent which was good. It helped having the guys there because I don't think I would've done 8 repeats. The first few felt really good, but they only got harder. After 3 I was pretty dead. I could've hit the 6th, but it was close. I could still feel my breakfast an hour and a half earlier during the repeats. My knee didn't hurt until the very last repeat, so I finished it out. The guys were finished, so I cooled down with them backwards around the track. After we stood there and talked for a while which was fun. It was a fun workout, but still challenging. Glad I could hit the times. I would have done more, but I don't want to push my knee too hard.

My knee was hurting, but I still ran. The first mile it hurt, but when I went downhill, I took small strides and it stopped hurting for the rest of my run. I went 2.5 to sv, and saw Ethan doing yesterday's workout, so I did a 1.5 loop, then came back to the track. I then did a mile cool down with him and Carson, then ran 2 miles home. My pace slowed way down going up the hill, and it ended up being an 8:26 which is good.  I don't want to push my pace too much due to my knee. It was really nice weather!

Warmed up 2 miles to sv, then took my time stretching. The weather was sunny, but a morning breeze made it kinda chilly. Trevor was already on the track doing the same workout. The workout was 3x1200 @ ipace (4:21 for me) and 2x1000 @ ipace (3:37 for me) with a 3:00 recovery in between. I did the math while warming up, and I think it is around a 5:48 mile, which seemed fast. When I finally got going, it was already pretty hard. I mostly worked on staying focused. The 1200 times were: 4:18, 4:20, 4:20. The 1000 times were: 3:40 and 3:42. The first 1200 stayed really consistent for 200 splits. The second and third ones I started way fast and struggled keeping pace. The last 100 was always hard. I got a quick drink, then did the 1000s. They were really difficult. I started on pace, but fell off towards the end. They weren't too slow, and my body was pretty dead. I felt pretty light headed during the 1000s and almost didn't finish the second. I'm glad I could do the workout, though. It took forever for me to start my cool down home. My feet, head, and butt hurt, so I just shuffled up the hill super slow. I stopped when I got to the top. My body was just out of energy. I finally finished the 2 miles home, then didn't do anything for an hour. My knee only hurt the first mile of the warmup snd the last 1200, so that was good.

Around 4, I did 3.5 miles with Ruby. We went up Birch, but didn't get to the second gate because there were a bunch of cars parked, so we turned around. There were some puddles, and Ruby couldn't make a decision to go around or through the puddles. She either stopped, then went around or ran right through em. We extended around the block to get the full mileage for the day. It was super nice weather! Felt like summer. Our average pace was an 8:38, which sped up when we got off of the trail.

It was such a sunny beautiful day! I got going around 12:00, and it was so warm! I went 3 up the canyon. While coming back down, I turned up the hill onto Sunnyside. I was feeling super good. There were a ton of people outside, especially compared to Tuesday. When I got home, I picked up Ruby and had a little under 2 miles left, so I just extended around the block. Ruby loved it. Before I picked up the dog, my average pace was just over 8:00. When we were done, our average pace was a 7:54 because Ruby kepted pushing the pace. It was a fun Saturday run. I'm glad I could get in 50 miles for spring break, even with my knee being stupid last week. I'm pumped to finally race again this next week.

Warmed up a mile with the girls.  I was somewhat excited for the days workout, but it was pretty warm out, so I was also nervous. We did Russain Intervals. Coach wanted us to do 4 sets with 4 total 300s in each set. I mentally look at this workout like a 1500m hard, but easyish on the front stretch. My goal was for a minute each 300. My first set felt really good. My times were 58, 58, 59, 60. The recoveries were around 29, though, so they were a little quick. Rachel and Clara dropped after the second 300, but coach was there to push me. Got a quick drink, spit, then did a slow 400 to recover. It was already painful. The second set's splits were 58, 59, 59, 60. The recovery was a little bit slower, around 32 maybe. Got another quick drink. I wasn't too far off of Jordan, JC, and Reed, so during the 400 recovery, Coach wanted me to go with them. When we started, he told us not to yet think about the 4th set. My times were 58, 60, 62, 60. I really struggled keeping with the guys. They weren't too far away, though. During the 3rd I got pretty stressed out, but controlled my breathing and pushed through. The fourth was gonna seem miserable. Got a drink, then went super slow on the 400. I told myself I could do atleast 3 on the last set. My first 3 were 59, 61, 60. I stopped for a sec after the third, and that break was a 78, but then I finished out my last one in a 58. I'm glad the workout was over. Went 4 laps on the track to cool down with the guys. We were all pretty beat, but it was so nice to be done. I did one more lap to round our the mileage. It was a good workout.

It was super hot and dry. Today's workout was 3-4 miles tempo. Everybody was so dead from yeasterday, though, that nobody went over 3. After maybe a mile of warming up, we were at church run. I started with the guys, hoping I could maybe stick with some of them. I was with half of them the first mile. Doyle and Jordan were pushing each other, and I was right behind. The first mile felt really good, expecially getting my legs to stride out. It was a 6:12, which was 8 seconds fast. The second mile hurt. Jordan pulled away, and Doyle wasn't too far ahead of him. At the turnaround, my half mile was a 3:25, and I was struggling. Coach turned around with me, and I saw that Jordan had passed Doyle. We slowly reeled him in and caught him at the 2 mile mark. That mile was slow, but it was still a 6:32. I really did not want to keep going, but I also wanted to catch Doyle, so I kept pushing. He got away on the downhill, but I caught him when it got flat. We stuck together the rest of the time with Coach right there with us. I fell off on the last half mile, but caught them again when we went over the hill to see the finish. My legs were hurting, bad. I was able to sprint the last 400 or so, but had to go around a car crossing 300S. When I got to the finish I wanted to collapse, but held my ground to catch my breath. The last mile was a 6:14. My overall time was 18:59! I don't think I've done 3 miles in under 19 for a workout in a while, but it felt so good. We waited for everybody else to finish, then cooled down a mile. It was a good workout, but my body was dead.

Somehow around 4:30, I was feeling good enough to do 3 more miles at around 8:25 pace. They really helped loosen my muscles. Right before bed I did a really hard core workout.

It was a chaotic day for everybody because there was a jv meet, and some confusion occurred. Rachel and I got in a quarter of a mile running up to the track to find throwers that could not get there implements, then running back to the school to pick up Clara. When we finally got going with the guys, 5th hour was halfway over. Coach wanted us to recover today, so we didngolf course unextended. The boys were going up the hill at an 8:40 pace, so I just stuck with em. Intold myself that if they got faster than a 7:50 ap, I would drop. It took them a while to get much faster. They were pretty talkative, until we got to the downhill. We were at a 7:50 pace with a mile left, so I stayed on with them. It felt really goos. The guys did all sprint at the end, so I stayed back wih Coach. Our average pace was still a 7:40 which was good for being tired. It actually felt really good, too. After we stretched and talked for an hour which was super chill.

Woke up with a sore throat, then I started coughing throughout the day. I did not want to be sick! We were supposed to do long and easy so we would be ready for Saturday. I can admit that I was so ready to qualify for state in the 3200m this Saturday. The girls decided to get going before the guys because they had a meeting and we did Sunnyside. I started to try to pick up the pace, but before I got to Mack park, I turned around and stayed back with the girls. We were going pretty slow. Rachel and Clara were both super sore. I struggled just to keep with them, my whole body was beat. Also, I couldn't exactly breathe. Nothing felt physically good. We didn't extend. We took a break back at Mack Park and everybody jumped in the river, but I was so tired. We finally ran back, and chocolate milk was being distributed, so I got one. It felt amazing on my throat. Our average pace was an 8:43. I was hoping to run more, but I was exhausted. Got a pretty nice fever later in the night, so I probably have the flu.

Only went to the first half of school, and didn't have any energy. I talked to Coah and he just wants me to get better so I can be ready for Friday. Somehow at 6:30, I found a little energy to run some easy miles on the treadmill. They didn't feel easy, but on a good day they would be considered easy. While I did, I watched youtube to pass the time. I usually set the pace to 8:20, because going under 8 was way draining. In between each mile I took a break, which got shorter  over time, to get a drink and cough. Now, I don't have any energy, but I'm glad I got in some miles. Did it all in under 42 minutes not including the breaks.

Felt really similar to yesterday- tired. Made it through a full day of school, so I'm feeling plenty better. The girls had a super long meeting, so when we started our workout it was later than usual. Warmed up a mike wih Rachel and Danella. Everybody else is doing premeet for the meet tomorrow. Our workout was cruise intervals. Rachel did a speed workout, so I was all alone. The guys were told 6 to 8 sets, but Coach just wanted me to play it by ear. I was able to do 4 sets with the minute break. I was supposed to hit a 3:56, and they were all fast: 3:44, 3:47, 3:51, 3:53. The first was amazing. Halfway through the second, my body caught up with me. The rest were painful, but I held my 200 splits to hit them all. During the majority of the intervals Coach was there to push me. They were blasting music on the speakers which helped so much. The breaks included me trying not to fall over and coughing my lungs out. While I was running I was coughing a lot, which probably looked funny. I was so tired after the 4th and knew it was from being sick. Took an 8 minute break to get multiple drinks, spit, and stand in the shade coughing. It wasn't fun. Finally started 2 more miserable sets. My 200s were perfect on each set, making my times barely on: 3:53 and 3:55. Coach told me just to get back into and not worry about doing 8 like the guys, so I stopped there. Went to sit in the shade, but saw Ethan and Landon going for a cool down, so I went with them. I have rarely struggled that much on a cool down. Towards the end, I dropped. It was all good, though, because I was done. I forgot to mention it was hot, but it was so nice to be outside. Went home and didn't realize I took a 1.5 hour nap until I woke up.

Still not feeling amazing yet, but had energy for my run. Just easy today. Everybody was pretty sore from Monday and Tuesday's workout, but I was still feeling fine. We did golf course. Rachel and I tried to keep up with the guys who were haulin up the hill, then we dropped. We passed them on 300 where they were stretching. Ethan and JC caught us when we got onto the trailmto extend. It was super rainy, and the trail was super muddy. Going down Birch we were all covered in mud and splashing in puddles. When we got into Smithfield Canyon, the guys were still jumping in puddles, but were going our pace. We all finished together. My cough was with me the whole run, which wasn't fun. Got back, soaked, and did 4 strides with Rachel. It was way fun. 7:52 average pace.

Later I did 2 miles. The rain had stopped, but there was a cold wind. Didn't have a ton of energy, so I cut it short. 8:02 average pace.

Got to chase the one and only Ethan Field for half a mile in front of the whole student body during the boys and girls assembly. They were gonna have Lauren do it, but she wasn't gonna be there, so they resorted to me. Lauren would have beat him. We were originally gonna run to Lee's, grab an orange, and run back, but it was pouring rain. They had us run 5 laps on the track thing above the gym. It was pretty humiliating, but fun. The girls tried to stop Ethan, but they couldn't slow him down. Then, some lacrosse boys made a barrier with their arms. I thought I could ram right through, but totally failed, then ran right under. He only beat me by 3/4s of a lap, so not too bad. It was still a way fun assembly.

During 5th hour, it was still pouring, so we had a meeting. When the meeting was over, me, Rachel, Kelc, and Harmony did Mack 'n back. It was pretty fun. It was cold, though, not warm like yesterday. Coughed the whole time, but pumped for tomorrow.

Psych! Right after I posted, I got a text saying the meet was cancelled. Pretty bummed, but I am ready than ever to race. For some reason I knew it was gonna be cancelled, so I threw on my shoes and ran 2 miles outside at an 8:04 pace. The temperature was under 40 and the sun was setting, so I decided to run the rest on the treadmill. Ran 3 on the treadmill in 23:09. Felt really good, but my legs hurt a bit. Hopefully I can get my mileage up after this evening.

Because we didn't have a meet, we did a workout to make up for it. It was pretty chilly, but once we stared running, we warmed up. After a 1.5 warmup because us girls had to wait for the guys, Coach explained the workout he made up. We would have a relay team of 3 (but we were uneven, so my team had 4, and 2 girls would run together) and we would roll the dice. 1 meant a 100, 2 meant a 200, and so on. 5 was a 200 and 6 was a 300, so we didn't have to do more than a 400. We would do 2 sets all out (as a relay) and during each set we would roll the dice to see what we would have next. After 2, we roll to see how far our recovery was. The first team to get each individual to run 3200m wins (including the break). It seems complicated, but our group understood it perfectly which included me, Kelsee, Harmony, and Cassy. We had a system going. We first rolled a 300m, so I started. My 300m was around a 55 (it was hard to tag and stop my watch at the same time, so the times are a little off). We then rolled another 300 which swas a 58 for me. We got a 200m recovery in together which had us right at the startig line (where the dice was). Then we rolled another 300, which was a 59 for me. After that we had another 300 which was a 57. Again, our recovery was 200, so we were back at the start. We then rolled a 400, I got a 1:21split. Then another 300 where my time was a 58. Our recovery was 300m which again had us at the start. Coach wanted to see where we were and chose a number for us, a 400m. I was up for it because that meant one 200 left. My 400 split was a 1:22, then the 200 was a 39. I was way pumped to be done! Our group won for the girls, so that was fun, too. In between most sprints, I usually jogged atleast 200, to roll the dice, tell my group members our next distance, or get to where I needed to be. The back stretch was a pretty stond headwind, which I always ended up runnig into, but it makes me tougher. After a while, we finally cooled down around the track, backwards.  It was a way fun workout, and I would be willing to do it again. I was actually way tired after, too. One thing was, though, that I still had my cough, and I hadn't sprinted like this since before being sick, so it killed me after each set. Hopefully I can be ready for Monday. I was gonna more, but didn't.

It was a rough day for running. Went up Smithfield Canyon, turned around after 3 miles up. My cough was pretty bad, and I didn't have any energy. My pace averaged around 8:00, but I turned up Birch whiched slowed my pace a ton. When I got on the last stretch, my stride lengthened, and I brought my pace down to an 8:07. I should have gone further. There was a chilly breeze which was not fun because it felt like summer, but it was cold.

Not sure how I feel about today's races. I was feeling ready, but all day my mind wasn't on the race. I physically felt ready to qualify, but I hadn't raced in about 3 weeks. I didn't know if we were gonna get outa 4th hour but luckily did. Wamed up a little too early with Kelsey, who was the only other sv girl running the 3200. We did a mile, then waited. I got in another half mile just jogging around keeping warm. It was really nice weather, a little too warm. When the race came closer, I could not get mentally in game mode, so I listened to music. When the race finally came around, I started pretty fast. I had already dropped everybody by the first lap. My first mile was on pace. I think if I had worn a watch at a race like this, I would have gone faster. The atmosphere was nothing like Simplot where every second of every lap there is somebody there to cheer. It helped having people on the back stretch cheering, but it only lasted a few seconds. Back to the race, I really tried to push laps 5 and 6, but mentally didn't have it. The last 800, I knew I had lost my chance, but still tried to push. I didn't have any music in my head, which didn't help. Emily closed the gap the last 2 laps, but didn't catch me. When I finished, I just didn't feel good. I was still really tired couldn't exactly breathe. Coughed a ton. I think being sick was still there a little. Cooled down half a mile wih Kelsey. We were both dead. When I got back, did another mile cool down with Ethan and Spencer.

It was fun watching the other races, but I didn't have energy. Finally could breathe again, which was good. I did not want to run the mile. My plan was to just strategize it. Warmed up a mile on the turf and again could not get into mental game mode. We were on the start when it hit that I had to race. It got a little chilly, and there was a breeze on the back stretch. I just stuck right behind Emily the whole time. We let the Box Elder girl get way ahead and lead the whole race. My 3200 splits were better than this race. At the last 400, I tried to sprint, but didn't have the energy and Emily passed me. It was all good, she did awesome. Again felt dead at the end. Glad my time was a 5:36, though. It was only 2 seconds slower than my first mile in the 3200. Rachel did amazing PRing in both her mile and 800. Same with Clara. Finally cooled down about 1.5 miles (last one with a bunch of guys on tree of life).  It was a super fun meet, and everybody did amazing.

Got a sunburn from yesterday, which wasn't very exciting. Didn't have school or a car, but I did have practice, so I ran to sv. It was really difficult, my hamstrings were pretty tight from yesterday. Running definitely loosened them out. Had to run with a drawstring bag which is always an adventure. Got there a little early and just waited. We had a meeting, then asked Coach what the plan was for today. He wanted us to go long and easy, but we had to stay close to the track. Rachel, Clara and I ran 2 laps waiting for the guys, then ran a mile or so on the course. When we got on the track, we were pretty dead... it was hot. We did plenty of laps. Luckily I had my gps watch because keeping track would not have been easy. Halfway, we flipped around and went backwards. The last 4 laps, we did 4x100m at about 80%. I didn't focus so much on speed, just stride. They felt good. We took plenty of water breaks. After, we stretched. It was a fun day, but miserable running long and easy on the track.

It was a dual meet today, and we had to run something, but Coach wanted us to just do a workout. It took Rachel and me a while to get going on a mile warm up. Then we stretched for the 2 mile. Our plan was to do the 2 mile tempo, then run one more tempo mile. The 2 mile was fun. The first mile was a party. Jordan N was going the same pace, so he just stuck with me. He did awesome, especially running in lane 2. Our first few laps were way fast, but we got into pace. Emily was awesome cheering for us at the long jump. First mile was a 6:08 (too fast), second was a 6:16 which was around a 12:25. Our goal was a 6:20 minute mile, but it wasn't too bad. The second mile was definitely harder. I let Jordan finish in front of me at the end. 3 minutes after I had finished, I was running another mile tempo. My whole body hurt. It was pretty miserable. Started by the range, ran around sv, turned towards Mack Park, but took a left at 300, then turned and finished right at church run finish. It was a long mile. .5 in, I was dying, and took a break. My mile was a 6:43, so not so good. It was longer than I expected. Saw Rachel, and cooled down with her. When we got back to the track, we watched races. I put on some sunblock, but I still got burned. Later did a mile with Kelsee, Danella, and Spencer. Talked to Ethan, then did one more mile. It was a really hot day, but a ton of fun. Jogged around throughout the meet. When I got home, I ran a quarter mile with Ruby to round out my mileage.

It was a really hot day. For our workout we just did something similar to Tuesday, but instead of 100s, we did 200s. I ran to Mack Park with Rachel. She was pretty sore, so we were going pretty slow. We did 2 200s at the park. They were both pretty slow. Running on the grass was difficult. As I was recovering half a mile, I saw the guys. It was hard to catch them, but they were just going up the canyon. Most guys turned around 1 mile ul. Ethan and Landon went up 1.5ish, then turned around, so I went with them. It was hard to keep up with them, but it was fun. Over this time we did maybe 5 total 200s, but they weren't fully 200s. Then we stopped at the park, again, and jumped into the river. I put my feet in, which was nice. Connor threw Ethan's shoes in the river, which was entertaining. Rachel and I finally ran back. it was about 6 miles at 7:53 pace.

At 4 we did a thing that consisted of short hill repeats in grass in spikes. It was fun, but different. Later we did some 100s and 50s on the track. We were all so hungry by the end. Ethan and I settled that we ran atleast 3/4 of a mile.

It was a shorter premeet than I had anticipated, but it was still way fun. We did Mack 'n back. When we got there we did 6 strides which lasted a long time. It was hard to run on the grass because my foot is being stupid. So the last three were on the path next to where everybody did their strides. Then we played some 10 dot dot, and hopped in the river. Sarah and I ran back because I had to get home early.

Today was a party like none other. I was not really prepped for these races mentally, but they were both wonderful. We drove down with mc, set up the tent, and and hour later, I was already warming up. One thing I regret was I forgot to eat breakfast and didn't realize til and hour before when it was a little too late. It didn't mess up my race, but I was hungry during the cool down. I was in the open 1600 and invite 3200, so the 2 races were 7-8 hours apart. My strategy for the mile was to stick with the pack, and go when I was ready. I warmed up a mile on a sidewalk I found, then did some stretches on the field. Jessica, from Bonneville, warmed up with me the rest of the time which was wonderful. I hate warming up alone. We jogged around and did some strides waiting for our heat to start. The weather was also better than expected. It was supposed to rain and be cold, but instead it was windy with sun. When our race started, I was nervous. My start wasn't amazing, but the entire race was a big pack. There were a few elbows thrown because the pack was pretty tight (not purposely from me). Our first 400 felt pretty fresh. At the 800, I still felt good. On the home sretch there was a headwind, but I always had somebody to draft off of. The third lap, anybody was there for the win. On the final lap, I felt amazinf. With 350 to go, I passed the leader. My form felt amazing. I was sprinting pretty hard. 200 to go, I could tell I had used so much energy. The last 100 was the craziest feeling ever. There was a headwind, 2 girls had passed me, and me and this other girl were battling it out. My thighs and butt have never burned so badly. It felt really long, but the last 10 meters, I surged and got 3rd. I was pretty happy about it. My time was a 5:20, which was right on the line for a pr. I was dead after. Cooled down half a mile on the turf while watching Ethan race. Then it rained, so we brought our stuff inside. Cooled down another half mile inside.

It was so much fun hanging with everybody at this meet. I got plenty of time to recover for the 2 mile. Finally warmed up. It was pouring outside, so I did 1.5 on the inside track. Didn't plan to go that far, but I was feeling really good. Went outside, and they were ahead, so I stretched, threw on my spikes, and checked in. It was wet. When our race started, I was cold, but I forgot about it by the first 100. Our start was so slow. The first 200 was maybe a 40, and the 400 was around a 1:22. I just stuck behind the pack. Before the first 400 was over, I moved my way up. On the first or second lap my right shoe had untied, which was the bothersome foot, and it was harder to get on my toes. The front pack of 3 girls was pulling away, and I couldn't let them get away. Before the first mile, they were too far ahead to catch. I didn't want to give up. Right before I told myself that I love the rain! It hurt. The first mile was a 5:37, so I knew I was on pace. Lap 5 and 6 are the laps I focus on because they're the laps that determine qqualifying or not. I just pushed through em. Again, it hurt. I could hear someone behind me, and I couldn't let her catch me, so I pushed even harder. The last 800, I had to hit a 2:50ish to qualify. Inreally struggled on the 7th lap, but when the last lap came around, I gave it my all. The last 300 was everything I had left. I hurt similar to the 1600, my thighs burned. I don't remember the last 50m, I was just running. When I finished I was pumped to be done. My sticker stuck to my jersey, but I put it over my old sticker stain, so it's okay! After congratulating a few girls, I started coughing. Couldn't stop for a while, meaning I was still feelining the aftermath of being sick from 2 weeks ago. I was so cold! When we finally got inside, I got on a dry shirt and shoes, and cooled down a mile with Ethan and Spencer on the indoor track. I don't know how much of a cool down it was, because we were going pretty fast, but it was still fun! I can admit that I amso sore, but I'm happy to finally be qualified for state in the 3200m. Lol, sorry this entry is a novel, but it is still pretty vivid.

Warmed up a mile with the girls. Our workout was 20x200@rpace with a 200 in between. I was still feeling amazing from last Saturday. It was pretty cloudy. As the workout went on, it got windy and rainy. The boys had a meeting, and we wanted to get in as many 200s as possible before lightning hit, so we started before them. They were all really good. I couldn't find my normal stopwatch, so I didn't get them recorded, but they were pretty consistent from 37-39s. I was supposed to hit 40's, but I only hit one that slow (my second). It was super rainy and cold, so after 10, I grabbed my jacket and after 11, I put my jacket on. I was so wet, it wouldn't go over my arms, and Coach pretty much had to help me get my jacket on which was pretty funny. That recovery was a little slow. My recoveries did get slower, but the front stretch headwind was so bad. At one point I think it hailed. Towards the end it got pretty intense. Then the lightning hit. I finished up number 15, then went inside. Inside, we did 1.5 laps for each 200 on the upstairs track. It mentally broke me, so I just hoped for 40 seconds hard. After, I cooled down a mile. It would've been nice to run the last 5 outside, but I'm glad we could finish.

Don't thinj we even got a mile warmup, but our cool down made up for it. We did 3 miles tempo. I was realy ready for his workout. The first mile, I stuck right behind the guys. It was windy, but I drafted which was nice. It was a 6:07. The first half of the second mile was slower, but I stayed right behind the pack which consisted of Jordan, Doyle, Reed, Cameron, JC, and Austin. After we turned around, the pack dropped and spread out. Coming back, the sun came out and it got super hot. I stuck with Jordan and Reed, Doyle wasn't too far behind. That mile was a 6:30. I wasn't mentally ready for the third mile. On top of that I had to use the bathroom. It broke me, and my form wasn't super great. If I could have mentally been there, I would have stayed with them. Doyle passed me, then Cameron. I finished that mile in a 6:50 which was sad. Oh well. My overall time was a 19:30, so not bad for that last mile. Cooled down a little over a mile.

Later, I ran 3 miles with Ruby. It was pretty windy.

I don't know why I didn't get in more mileage today. We had a recovery day where we went to Mack Park and played games. We did some strides there. Running on the grass hurt my foot, so I ran on the path. We played some new game pertaining to the ocean, then some good ol' 10 dot dot. When I got home, I was going to run more, but it never happened. Pretty mad at myself for not doing more.

We were required to run at a dual meet, so Coach told us to run the 3200m easy, then run long and easy. It was at Freemont. I warmed up .5 with Sarah, then paced her for a sub-14. She did awesome, getting a 13:57. It was fun cheering. I then warmed up/cooled down with people. I went 3 with the guys on a 5k course we found. It may or may not be Freemont's xc course, but it was on the road. Later did part of it with Clara. Got a total of 10, then hung out on the bleachers freezing with everybody else because it was a windy day. My foot was hurtong after all of the miles, but it will probably be my last long day over 10 until after state.

Premeet. Ran to Mack Park wih the girls. I did the 6 strides on the path again, still can't run on grass because any random angle makes my foot hurt. I went ahead because the breaks in between were so long. I finished my 5th, but then all the girls left after their 4th. Luckily, the guys were there, so I jogged around waiting for them. Ran back. My foot still hurt, but I should be fine racing tomorrow.

Didn't want to admit to not being able to run. My foot was hurting pretty bad walking around school. Still went to practice thinking I could run something. Warmed up a mile with Clara, and I hobbled the whole time. There was a tree that had fallen on our course and stopping to get over it was a relief. Talked to Coach after he gave the workout. The walk from the track to the weight room was pretty depressing. Got on the spin bike. I tried correlating the track workout on the bike. 200 at r, 100 at i, 100 at f ongoing with a 400 recovery in between 5 to 7 times. Times were supposed to be 40, 21/22, 18 or less. I did 40 seconds hard, 20 seconds semi hard, then 20 seconds all out on the bike after warming up. In between each break was 2 minutes. Did 6 sets. Finished up to 6 miles biking. Pretty miserable, but the plan is to stay off it until BYU.  At home I iced for 40 minutes. Later, I did a really hard core workout. Wasn't too exhausted after.

It was a better day. My foot didn't hurt as badly. Was going to do a pool running workout, but decided to bike. Everybody was doing an easy recovery workout, so I just biked for 30 minutes. Felt pretty good, but that thing makes your butt hurt. Grabbed a drink after 15 and 25 minutes. Kept the pace pretty consistent. Idk how to set the resistance, but the spin thing said I did 9 miles at about 19 mph. It was really hot in the weight room, which made me sweat more than usual. School wasn't out when I was done, so did 3 minutes of planks (pretty easy, but was sore from yesterday). Then went on the track to talk to the guys and haven't laughed so hard in a while.  Iced at home for over an hour (20 min on, 20 off) and did some easy core.

Foot felt good enough to run, but I played it safe. Biked, but planned to simulate a tempo run. Warmed up for 10 minutes and was already tired. Started pretty hard hoping to go for 20-30 mintes. I may have been going harder than tempo, but it is hard to find a consistent pace while biking. After 5 minutes, I was super tired. Hopped off, grabbed a quick drink. My pulse was so hard, I could feel it in my neck, which doesn't exactly feel as easy as tempo. Did 5 more minutes at similar intensity. My legs burned pretty badly, and it was super hot in the weight room. I don't want to kill myself for this weekend, but at the same time, I don't  want to be too fresh. I got in 10 miles total on the spin bike, wasn't super far.

Helped out with our blue and white that was supposed to be a tri meet, but none of the schools showed up. It was pretty fun chillin in the box recording times, and the meet went by super fast. Later, I iced for about an hour like yesterday.

Not super happy with this race. Like Orem, it physically felt like a jog in the park. Warmed up quite a bit. It definitely felt good to run, but my foot hurt. I just jogged around. More than anything, I thought about being able to run, not so much the race mentality. Right before Coach asked me how the foot felt, and I wanted to race so bad. This track is my favorite. Did a bunch of strides on the grass, and the 2 on the track. The race finally came around. I really wasn't nervous which was nice. I really don't remember who I was by or who I passed/got passed by. The whole time it was a mental/physical fight. The first 3 laps were comfortable pace wise. My foot hurt. I was able to stay on my toes those laps, then it hurt too much. I had a break down during the race... I didn't want to not finish. After I mustered up my emotions, I decided to just heel strike or simply not run on my toes. Our mile was a 5:40, still on pace for a pr, but the second mile had to be a negative split. Lap 5 and 6 I felt mentally strong. A few times I tried to go with girls, but it took too much of a toll on my foot. When everybody began sprinting, I couldn't go, either. I pretty much strided in the rest of the race. Wasn't very tired after. Didn't cool down because running hurt. I feel physically at my best, just can't run as well as I'd like to. Later, I asked a few people how I looked during my race, and they said I didn't look smooth. Makes sense because it hurts landing on my foot. I'm grateful for all of those patient people who were willing to help and listen.

It was still fun chilling, and everybody who raced killed it.

It was a ton of fun chilling at BYU. I watched all of the miles. Coach had me not run the mile to stay off of my foot to be ready for region. It was okay. BYU is a party and it's a ton of fun to see so many people. Again, everybody who raced killed it.

Really wanted to run, but my foot still hurt. God news: it doesn't hurt to walk anymore! Yay! Biked. I was 5 minutes into my warmup, when I had to go figure out something with my AP test and region being the same day. Walked around a ton, then went up to the track to talk to my coaches. Then went back to the school. I did jog with another girl in the same dilemma about an 8th of a mile, but I won't count it. It hurt. Finally got back on the bike, and school was out. Warmed up 5 more minutes. Simulated the workout: 2 sets of 200 @ r, 600 @ tempo, 300 @ f. The times I was supposed to hit were 40, 2:20ish, 60 (or less) continuous. I figured out how to change the resistance on the bikes. Just hit the amount of time with the same level of effort (kinda). The first set was really good. Full recovery for 5 minutes which may have been long. Second set was good, too. At the end of the second set, my all out was whatever I had, and I went hard. I checked my pulse right after because it was fast. It was around a 180, meanig I must've been going hard. Cooled down for 10 more minutes.

Way pumped about today! My foot didn't hurt very bad which was wonderful. Had a perfect amount of time to get ready, run home to grab something, and warm up. It was a beautiful day, a little hot, but the perfect amount. Warmed up way too early. Went 1 on the course, then jogged around with Clara. My foot didn't hurt too much. When we did strecthes I began feeling it. I just focused on the race. One thing I wanted to work on was staying smooth. The strides were pretty good, but I definitely felt my foot. When we got on the line, I got super nervous. I had a strategy in mind. The start was a little rough, felt too slow. I was in the whole pack. Our first 200 was a 34, and I still was making my way up. Our first lap was a 75, and I felt comfortable. I caught a pack of 3 freemont girls. I could hear girls behind us, but I never knew wherw they were. The second lap was pushed, but I just stuck behind them. The third lap, I wanted to go, but my foot was hurting. About gave up during the third lap, I didn't care if I made it, but at 400 left, I wanted state. I tried to pass the pack but was boxed in. With 300 to go, Russain Interval went through my mind. I got on my toes and went. With 100 to go, I was hurting. My thighs burned, and my foot killed. The two girls passed me, and I freaked out. Looked back with 50 to go, and I had a good gap so just strided in. If I hadn't hurt so bad, I would've gone with the girls. I was so happy to be done with worrying. Pumped to make it to state! Also, I PRd and broke the school record which were my season goals.

It was fun watching the guys race and qualify. So many people did amazing qualifying which makes me pumped for state. About an hour after my race (foot began to feel better), finally went on a cool down with a bunch of guys. It was pretty dope. We went on the course, continued on lower canal, then to Mack Park. It felt super good to be out and running. We ended up going over 2.5 miles. It was such a party today! Pumped for tomorrow.

Not a super good race. My shin was pretty sore all day, probably from running on my foot different. I wasn't mentally ready for this race. It was super hot. Warmed up over a mile and a half, felt funny running on my foot. Yesterday my foot hurt during the day, but not so bad when warming up; today, it didn't hurt until I started running. Did the strecthes while worrying more about the foot than the race. When we got on the starting line, I didn't know what to expect. I should have had a better motivation for the race. I was hoping for a good time, but I raced for the points our coaches wanted. Our start took it's time. Felt like a jog in the park, a really hot park. I passed the pack. Mckenna wasn't too far ahead, but the gap grew. The pack was on me the whole time. I thought I would pull away, but it just got harder. By the third lap I wanted to give up, everything was already sore. Just kept pushing. On the 7th lap, three Freemont girls started to go around me. I fought to stay up. The last lap I was ready to go, but it hurt. The whole race I wasn't on my toes; good thing I wore flats. I tried to pull away at 300, but they stuck. 200 left two of em passed me again, and I was done. I couldn't get on my toes. It's okay, but I wished I could've raced better or gotten a decent time. My foot was hurting, and my calves and thighs were pretty dead. I cooled down a mile with the guys. It was fun watching everyone race. It was also a party hangin out and talkin to everybody. Later did one more mile. Everything is pretty tired, but pumoed for state!

We were all pretty sore from region, so today was an easy recovery day. Kelsee, Rachel, and I were pretty tired of running on the road, so we drove up to dry canyon. Going up was pretty hard, but it was super easy. The weather was hot and dry, but it was nice being up the canyon. When we got to the shade, it felt plenty better. After 1.5 up we turned around. Our pace sped up a ton, but we still went nice and easy. It was fun talking and we enjoyed ourselves. Foot didn't hurt, but whole body was dead. We averaged a little under 11 minute miles.

Woke up pretty early to run. It was super nice and pretty out, I miss running in the morning. Brought Ruby with me. She struggled after the first mile, but after we turned around, she sped up. Foot wasn't hurting too bad. Our miles were 8:09, 8:12, 8:43, and 8:49. They were slow, but my legs were still beat from region. I attempted to do strides. After the first few steps, my foot would hurt tok much. I stopped trying after the 3rd. Later went on a pretty fun 3 mile hike. Senoir Prom with spencemoney was a blast.

Good, short workout today. Warmed up 1.25 with Rachel, Coach, and Ethan. Rachel was sweet enough to do today's workout with me. It was 2 sets of 200 @ r, 400 @ tempo, and 200 @ f. The first set was really good. I started with Ethan, making my start way too fast. Halfway through the 400, coach started with me, and finished. Rachel was on my tail the whole time. The splits were 36, 1:25, and 37. My total time was a 2:39 which is 5 seconds slower than my 800 pr, lol. Took a long recovey. Did 400 easy, got a drink, stretched. Finally did the last set. I focused more on hitting the tempo. Felt really good until the last 200. Didn't mentally get to sprinting until the last 100. Rachel was in front the whole time, and didn't catch her. Splits were 38, 1:26, 38. All of my tempo was supposed to be a 1:35, so it was WAY to fast. My legs and stomach really felt the second set after I finished. Then we cooled down a mile nice and slow.

Super quick workout, but felt really good. Warmed up 1.25 with Rachel. 2x800 @ tempo with 1 minute recovery in between. The splits were 2:50 and 2:49. The first lap was always way too fast, like race or i pace, but the second lap was on pretty well for both of them. Was supposed to hit a 3:10, so they were both way too fast. At the last 50, Rachel was always ahead of me, so I'd try to pass her, and we'd both speed up. After the second, my thighs could feel it, but going fast just felt easy. It was nice having Rachel there to push me. Cooled down another 1.25. During the cool down my legs were pretty tired, but they'll be fresh by the weekend.

Didn't go to a single full class except track because I took my ap stats test the first half of the day, then got drug tested during 4th hour. It was a really quick workout 2 sets of 15 seconds on, 15 off 5 times. It was a super hot day. Rachel and I warmed up on the lower canal past Sunrise, the took a left towards sv starting the first set. It was mentally easy, but physically hard. Turned around at sv, then jogged over to church run. Did the second set at the start of church run. It was physically easier, but mentally tougher. Cooled down where we warmed up. Behind sunrise we passed Connor and Ethan. Some kids were playig redrover, but when they saw the guys they told em to put their shirts on. I'm glad they straight up told em how it is. Rachel and I died of laughter. Finished to 3.5 at about 8:03 overall pace. My legs are a little tired, but I'm ready to race!

Really happy about today. Got a good nights sleep and both physically and mentally was ready. Warmed up about 1.5 and everything felt good. I was so pumped to finally run the mile on this track. Had multiple good game-plans in mind. When we went into the bull-pen, I still wasn't really nervous, just ready. I was seeded 19th, but that didn't even get to me, all I cared about was time. One thing I focused on was the fact that it was just another race, because state always seems to be the race I think too much about. The few strides we did I felt a little off, but I was just getting a feel for the track. We were on the start line and I was so happy to be there, I couldn't stop smiling! The first start was a false start, and the next minute was pretty nerve-racking. The second start was much better, and we were off. I was in the back, but knowing it would be fast, I just relaxed. The first lap was fast, but the pack I was with was pretty tight. The second lap was comfortable, I think this was when the first group broke off, but I was just behind the second.  500m left was when the race truly started.  A group pulled away and I passed the behind girls to catch them.  I should've stayed in the middle of this pack, because the rest of the last lap consisted of me trying to catch just them.  I felt amazing, though. With 300 to go I really pushed. I don't remember much, but on the last 100m we were all hauling, and it felt good. I was trying to pass some girls, but never caught them.  We were all really close. Finished with a 4 second pr. Really happy and grateful after the race. Everybody did amazing, and it was so much fun.

Cooled down a mile, then watched the boys race. After a while, I went with a bunch of hobby joggers for a cool down that was plenty longer than expected.  It was still a blast. Most of the guys turned around after a mile out, but Brielle and I went another half mile. She didn't have on shoes, so the two of us turned around. The whole day was a party. Watching all the people race was even more fun, because they all did so well.

This was a good end to the season.  My stomach wasn't feeling the best when I woke up, possibly from having dinner around 10:00.  Only got around 5 and a half hours of sleep, too. I was happy to make it in the 3200, but I didn't feel as ready as the mile. Calves were sore from yesterday. Warmed up 1.5 miles, like yesterday.  I was really worried because I didn't see many girls warming up for the 2 mile. I shouldn't have let that get to me, but it did make me change up my normal warm-up routine. When I did my stretches, my foot wasn't feeling too good. I mostly ignored it, which was maybe the best thing.  I didn't want to focus on it instead of racing.  I grabbed my spikes, but ran back (a little last minute) and got my flats instead.  It was a little chillier, but not too bad. When we walked onto the track, it started to rain lightly. The start was pretty clean. I felt amazing the entire first mile.  I was so tight in the pack, my shins did get kicked multiple times, but never too hard and never got spiked. The first lap was slower than I had expected. I just kinda went with the lead 6 girls.  They were all really fast, but I stuck with them, and felt physically good. The third lap started to hurt, but I just kept going with them. While we were racing, the song Stressed Out by 21 Pilots was playing and I was just jamming out like a workout. The first mile was a 5:30.  That was when I got dropped hard.  The girls who I was with were all going for a negative split. I just kept pushing. I knew to push the laps 5 and 6, but my legs were tired.  I just kept running. Not sure when, but two AF girls caught me and I stuck with them for a while.  They dropped me during lap 7, and I just pushed. On the last lap, I had to hit under 1:20 to pr.  I pushed, but my legs wouldn't go much faster.  On the last 200 I passed a girl, but she passed me right before the finish. Finished around the time I did at the Davis Invitational which is my third fastest time. I'm still pretty happy about it.  My foot hurt after I finished. The rain got a little heavier. Glad to finish the season well. I had no motivation to do a cool down. Coach gave me 3 reasons why I didn't have to, so I didn't. My calves did end up tightening up, but it's okay; good thing I'm taking a break. I am so ready for a good break to let my whole body heal, relax, and be ready for summer training.

Had a blast hanging out with everybody. So many people did awesome in their races, which were so much fun watching. This season had it's ups and downs, but it has really strengthened me. I'm grateful for the help and support from coaches, friends, and parents. It was weird this year without Conner, but he was still helpful and motivating through email. I can't wait to see what happens next year.

Was gonna take a longer break, but also wanted to try running with Nathan. Haven't ran once since state, but I have hiked a little. Last Wednesday we had a kids camp where I tried the sticks out, but after the first stride, my foot gave out, so I stopped. I was so excited to run! After the first quarter of a mile, my foot hurt (not bad, but slightly enough), so we finished out the mile. Nate did awesome getting an 8:11. I hopped on the bike and we did one more mile. Just doing some easy miles this week to get back into it. Slept in, then 3 with Ruby up the canyon at 8:28 pace. The whole first mile my achilles was popping  (probably from not running and going downhill). Physically felt good, but a lot of little muscle pains. Foot wasn't too bad, so I'll just keep running on it. If it gets as bad as post 2 mile at byu, orem, region, or state again, then I'll get it checked out. Going past Mack Park, a squirrel crossed the road. It looked like it was playing red light green light which was pretty funny. Turned around and took a quick stop to stretch. Going back up the hill was tiring, so hopefully the big ugly goes well tomorrow. Finished before 7:45 and will show up to school when I feel like it.  Did an easy core workout that was hard because I haven't done legit core in a while.

Big Ugly today. It was way fun, but 4 hours of sleep isn't enough. Drove to nc with my little bro. The showup this year was pretty sad (only 4 new freshman), but those that did are awesome. Started with everybody. I did not want to go fast at all, but everybody was haulin. The hill when we started was painful. I tried to go with rachel, and nathan tried to keep with me. He got really tired, so he stopped for a sec and I tried to catch rachel. I had her in my line of sight the whole time. When we finally got to the start of the big ugly, I was feelin pretty good. Every year it gets easier, but I probably do it slower, lol. On the way up Storrs had written things like "pain is awesome" and "if you're having fun, you're not hurting enough." I was definitely having fun. When we were on the final part where it's not too steep but you're so legs are dead, Rachel bagan to slow down and I tried to catch her. On top of that Coach Womack was rigt behind me and I didn't wanna be passed. We took a long break. It took us about 23 minutes to get to the top. Rachel and I ran down together. It was slick, with all the rocks, so we went slow. It took 17 minutes to get down. The big ugly is always a party and everybody who did it today are the best.

Went on a really late hike last night, came home to get 2.5 hours of sleep, then met up with friends to hike at 3:30 am. We hiked up to the reflectors and watched the sunrise. It was totally worth it. Chilled on the mountain, ate breakfast, then hiked back down. The hike is 2 miles up, but it's super steep. Coming back down was sketch. It took me and Kels more time to get down than up, lol(1:30ish up and 1:45 down). We'll see if I go on a run later today, my body is sore.

After doing nothing productive except for sleeping and reading, I had a burst of energy, so I ran. It was about 80 degrees so I wore a tanktop and had my messy braids from yesterday in. Turned on my africa playlist which gave me even more energy (consisting of Alex Boye and the lion kind). 4 up the canyon and my quads were sore. My pace, though, was a 7:30 up to the third mile. With the uphill 9-minute laste mile, the average pace went up to 7:55. I was done with uphill after the last 36 hours. Picked up Ruby; we only lasted a half mile in 4:17. It was a really fun run today, even with the heat. It kinda hit me that this is my last year to run in hs, so I better make the best of it.

Babysat all morning, and my only chance to run was in the hot afternoon. I didn't eat much until right before which was smart, haha. The first 2 miles felt great. It was over 80 degrees, and my average pace was a 7:20. Just felt good. Then the third mile hit along with the heat. Jogged the shortest route home. I may have been a little dehydrated. Planned to run later when it was cool with Garrett, but we were both so tired. Ended up hiking sv hill and watched the sunset.

First, yet weird, day of summer xc. I just don't feel like a senior, and a bunch of people were gone. A ton of things have changed over the last few years, and I'm not crazy about change, but I'll get used to it. We had a good amount of lowerclassmen, though, which was awesome. Ethan chose the route, cedaridge. We all began walking in a pack towards the course, but nobody was running, lol. I started and everybody followed, haha. It was just different. When we started, I tried to catch the lead group of boys who had sprinted out, whom I could usually keep up with. They were going tempo pace, so I pulled back, letting Clara catch me and we ran together. It wasn't supposed to be hard, but idk if everybody knew that. Clara and I were still pushing the pace a bit which was nice. I was hoping to extend, but my stomach and foot were both hurting, so we just did the normal loop to 4. It may be a little long, but we ran for 33:30, so maybe a little under 8:30 minute miles. There was a mixup with where to finish, so a group of us had to run back to the stop sign. I then led core, which was so weird, but nobody else took over. It was pretty fun and I'm so pumped for this season. Hopefully practice will be the way it used to, because today was a weird day. If I can find time, I will run tonight.

After babysitting and dinner, I wasn't really in the mood to run, so I procrastinated by watching a movie with my little bro. Then it got dark, and I was up for a night run. Just 3 miles at 8:25 pace. I went on downstream upper canal which I hadn't been on in over a year. It's a short trail right below where I normally run, but there's no shade as you run through a field. There was half of a dead water snake which I stopped to look at, lol. The trail then goes behind people's houses and I feel creepy running in people's backyards at night. It was still a blast. Hopefully I can do more similar night runs this summer.

Felt sick early in the morning, but by 10, I was up for a run. I then got distracted by looking at family pics and I found some of Conner's "unseen" sub-4 downhill mile footage, haha. Finally got going before 11. 6 miles up the canyon. It got really hot towards the end. The last uphill mile was death, but I ran through a sprinkler which was great. 8:04 average pace. I was hoping for sub-8, but it seems to take more effort now that the season's over, and that last mile was an 8:50. I was hoping to get some tempo in, but Coach recommended not pushing anything until my foot is 100%. It did hurt a little, but I think it's improving. Really fun run, though.

Really fun day at practice. We went up the canyon which was way nice. Clara and I ran together the whole time. We both thought six was a good amount for today, and on the last mile, a group of guys caught us. On our way down we sped up a bit, but it was way nice to run with people. Our average pace was 7:54.

Another nice run up the canyon. I had to wait for my watch to charge for about 45 minutes, then it took 15 to link, haha. It was a really pretty morning. Went up to the 7 mile turn-around, then cut through birch. Slowed down my average pace, but the trail was worth it. Had to do some extra to round out the half-mileage. 8:06 average pace. I may or may not run tonight.

Yet another run up smithfield canyon. For practice we did sunnyside. Me and Clara stuck together the whole time. It was pretty fun. We started with the guys, but they sped up and I wasn't up for anything too fast. Coach Womack wanted us to go for atleast an hour. Only 4 of us ended up doing that, haha. We extended up the canyon and were both tired, so we didn't speed up much when we turned around. 8:15 average pace.

Wish I coulda gone to the CBC, but I had the act and needed sleep. I was dreading the fact that I'd have to run in the afternoon heat, but it was pouring rain and 65 degress! Today I was up for an adventure run, and it was. Went up Birch. The clay was pretty slick past the first gate, but running was possible. I was hoping to turn onto the trail right before the second gate, but couldn't find it, lol. I attempted to find it by crossing the river (soaking my shoes). Then I tried to just keep going up instead. Because of construction, the clay was too slick and my shoes gained some significant weight. Turned around. Found out the trail was a ways before the gate, I had missed it. Went up the trail which is so pretty, expecially in the rain. When I got to the fields, I followed to another trailhead I didn't know about. It was pretty overgrown, narrow, and slippery. I don't know where it goes to, but I'm down to try hiking it sometime (when it's not rainy and I'm not alone). Went back the way I came to get mileage. Coming down I sped up but soon became covered in mud. It was definitely a fun run. Continued on hillside when I got to the road to get in one more mile to round out to 40. My average pace on the trails was slow, but I was going 7:20 on the road, so it got down to a 9:23. One thing is my foot didn't hurt! Maybe I will be able to do tempo next week.

For xc we did golfcourse, which is probably my favorite. Clara and I pushed it up the hill, but dropped from the first group of guys when it got flat. My watch only lasted the first mile, which was an 8:15 (all uphill). The pack of sophmore boys caught us and we just stuck with them the rest of the time. We extended onto the trail, and Carson was ahead of me and the pack was behind. I was feeling up to going with him, but I didn't wanna drop Clara. When we got into Birch, the group caught up. Tucker cleared some crazy puddles. When we got into the canyon, Clara and I sped up. Jaxon hauled passed us, catching Carson. They finished about 20ish seconds ahead of us at 7:39 pace, so we were at about a 7:45. It was a fun day. I probably should have ran more.

Later, Sarah, Clara, and I went on Crimson trail to hike. It was a beautiful day, but as we were coming down the wind picked up. When we reached the trees towards the end, it began hailing/raining and there was some lightning. We ran the rest of the way, getting soaked and muddy. Sarah was hauling ahead; I just jogged. It was an adventure. I'll count another half mile.

I had no motivation to run until 2. It was about 75 degrees, which was hot enough. I felt amazing the first two miles up the canyon, considering to do 12, but then the heat hit me. I just went up another mile and turned around. My average pace up was a 7:45, which was decent for going up. Coming down it got down to 7:40. Took a break at Mack Park for some water. The last mile was terrible. I didn't eat much before, so I didn't have a ton of energy going up the hill. 7:56 average pace. Running through the park added a bit.

We did saddleback at practice. We haven't ran it in a year, so it was an adventure. We turned early, so we could cross main on the crosswalk which took forever. The whole team caught up by the time we crossed. Half of us forgot where the turn was, lol. Finally found the right road. Clara and I were feeling good at the start and we were in front. The lead pack of boys caught us and we went on the long, straight road to 3.5. The boys pushed the pace for us quite a bit. At 3.5, the lead guys stopped, then turned around. Clara and I felt great, so we waited for the next pack, the sophmore boys, who were up to do the full loop. I thought it was 8, but it turned out to be 8.5, whoops. We were ahead, but stopped quite a bit to make sure they knew where to go. After the final turn, we were on the road back. We slowed down a ton the last 3 miles, but all of us were pretty dead. Our average pace was 8:12. Made it back and everybody had finished core. Water tasted amazing after this run. Adventure runs are the best, and this one definitely felt that way.

This was a day where I had no motivation. Finally, around 10, I just did 4. One reason I may not have a ton of motivation is 'cause I'm not really doing any races this summer and I haven't been able to do anything hard.  Hopefully, next week, I will start doing some tempo. During my run, I did 2 200s on the road to get a feel for speed. My foot didn't hurt much, which was good. They were both around 45, but a little long. 7:45 average pace

For practice, we went up dry canyon. It was pretty fun. I ran with Ryan and Ethan (both sophmores) up the hill. JC and Austin were way ahead, and everybody else was at ragnar or on vacation. It felt way nice going up. We got to a gate, then turned around to pick people up. We went all the way to the bottom of the dirt road, then slowly made our way back up. It was really fun. Storrs showed us some trails I would love to try. Then, we ran down. Most people hauled. I just stuck with Annie and we chatted. We were still around 6:30 pace coming down, which wasn't hard at all. Don't know our average pace, but it was atleast an 8:15 or faster.

Really late in the night, I did 3 miles with Ruby. It was pitch black, but the full moon was out. My miles were 1) 7:52, 2) 7:44, 3) 7:58. Ruby pushed me quite a bit. It was perfect temperature outside, too.

Went up smithfield canyon with my dad. It was way fun. He said we were going to go slow, but we went the perfect pace for an easy run. We didn't talk much, but my mind was going 100 mph. We got a drink at mack park on our way back. We slowed way down on the golf course hill, but it was pretty hot. Our average pace was 8:08, and it was around 82 degrees. When we finished, we were at 8.17, so I just ran up the road a ways and back to atleast round out to the quarter. Super fun run.

Before the sun began to set, I started running. Man, the sunset was beautiful! My whole run was me looking at it. Going south, the dimension of the clouds could be seen with orange, pink, and purple. Going north, there was an orange feather-like cloud against navy blue with the light blue background. Halfway, the whole sky made everything a pink glow for a while, which was way pretty. I did 3 on hillside with Ruby, then one around the block. All of the miles were super consistent, averaging a 7:31 pace. Felt really good and beautiful run!

For xc, we did tree of life, then bumped up to cedaridge backwards. The coaches had us start girls and boys separate to find people to stay with. Cassidy and I stuck together and made our way up to the second pack. Her goal was to stay with me, and she stuck with us until the cemetery which was awesome. The lead ground didn't know where to go after the canal or cemetery, so we caught them twice. The pack was huge. We hauled down the hill. Ethan, Jaxon, and I caught the lead pack around cedaridge, but I dropped the last mile. Around a 7:35 average pace which was plenty faster than I had anticipated. It was a way fun practice.

Ran during the sunset again because it's a convenient time. Brought Ruby with me. She started to struggle when we got to the first mile, and she never got faster. Although she has more energy than her tiny body can handle, Ruby only runs when she wants to. Our miles were 7:44, 7:51,  8:42, and a 4:07 half mile. Going up the hill on the third mile, Ruby was walking and I didn't want to drag her or carry her, so I just slowed way down. The temperature was perfect, but the dog just wasn't feeling it. The sunset wasn't as nice as Saturday, but the clouds were still pink. Fun evening run.

I was really pumped to try tempo, but my foot was hurting. I decided to just go up the canyon and if it warms up, maybe I'll try some tempo. Before 2 miles, it didn't hurt, so my warm up was 2. When I started, I realized how it would all be uphill. My first mile was still decent for going up (6:43). I took a quick break to catch my breath, I hadn't gone fast in a while. Then, I started to go down. Within a minute, my achilles was popping. It hadn't happened since 8th grade, so I stopped. Stretched it, then tried again, but stopped again. It's painful, but when I stop it doesn't hurt. That half mile was still fast, excluding the breaks. Just jogged home the rest of the way. It didn't hurt/pop coming back up the golfcourse hill, but I didn't want to risk it. The only time it really did pop is when I would run down the canyon after all the uphill, so my next tempo will have more gradual hill changes. Still got in 6, and all of my miles were under 10 minutes, lol.

At 3:30, when it was super hot, I went 3 quick miles. I need a few heat runs before cross country, and I had not other time. Just did hillside. When I was next to the fields, I heard a rattle snake, but couldn't see it, so I just sped up. Coming back, I was on the other side of the road. I crossed after the spot where I'd heard the rattle. Then, I heard a bunch more (from a distance). I just ran faster, it wasn't super bad. It was either rattle snakes or sprinklers that didn't exist, lol. About a 7:18 average pace. Still way fun. Right after, hiked the wind caves and my legs were wrecked.

For practice, we ran up the canyon. I was with the girls for a bit, then the sophmores came past and I went with them. The lead pack of guys was way ahead, but I was so tired and my legs were sore. We were still going at a 7:25 pace until the second mile. It was me, tucker, and ryan. As we went up, isaac and swiggy fell off, and stuck with us. After 3 up, we turned around. Tucker and Ryan took off downhill, but my body wasn't up for it. It was way fun and chill. 7:45 average pace.

I was able to run with Amber which was way fun! We drove up birch to the third gate and started up the trail. We followed a single track that weaved in and out of the double which had easier crossings and some bridges across the river. It was a ton of fun chatting with her, and we were going up the trail super slow (14 minute miles). We got to where it is just the single track and went up for a ways. It was the furthest either of us had ever gone up, and the trail was super over grown. Coming down, our pace sped up to 10 minute miles. I fell into the river twice while we were crossing, but the cold water felt really refreshing as the temperature became warmer. It was way fun!

Tempo today. It wasn't as good as anticipated, but good for the first time this summer. Warmed up 2 miles, the first and last mile of the tempo. Did hillside. I felt really good starting, and my first mile was right on, but the second and third were harder to keep pushing. Foot didn't hurt and achilles didn't pop, so that was great. I mostly didn't keep my form the last 2 miles. Miles were: 6:21, 6:44, 6:45 which was 19:51 total. It's crazy how last year, I just hoped for under 20, and hitting this time doesn't kill me anymore. Picked up Ruby and cooled down a mile. I should have ran last night, and tonight because I was on track for 50 miles. I just didn't have the motivation or energy. Next week, I will hit 50.

Storrs asked me what we should run today. I was down to switch it up, and chose golf course backwards. We've done it before, but the first 4 miles are uphill. Arianna stuck with me the whole time which was wonderful. Our first mile was a 7:23. Going up birch, she would speed up which pushed me. Coming off of the trail, she was struggling, so we just went nice and easy. When we got to the mile of downhill, we sped up quite a bit. Ethan caught us (they had extended) and we talked going down the hill. It ended up being a 6:33, so plenty faster than expected. It was just under an 8 minute mile average pace, and was way fun. Right when I got home, I brought Ruby 3 miles up birch. My body was tired, so we went 8:52 pace. I then actually got in a decently good core workout in after.

I went up Smithfield Canyon hoping to do tempo, but I was tired. I went up to the 8 mile turn around. I kept a decent pace going up until the last mile which brought it up to 8 minute pace. I was still feeling tired, so started down slowly. When I was almost a mile down, a white truck came swerving around the corner. It came closer to the edge. I was already in the weeds and tilted my head. If I hadn't tilted my head, the mirror would have hit me. The car wasn't too far from hitting me either. It scared me. Usually, I make eye contact with the driver, but they were flying. I wasn't super angry, just in shock. I slowed way down and felt sick to my stomach, so I cut up birch. My pace slowed way down to an 8:26. Hopefully, that doesn't happen again. I was wearing a gray shirt, so it may have been harder for them to see me, idk. Next time I run up there, I will wear a bright colored shirt, lol.

For practice, we did a nice speed workout. We jogged out to the west side of smithfield (consisting of fields, cows, and an occasional house). We got to a road and based our distance between the telephone poles. The first was a brisk pace, the second was faster, and the third was a sprint. Then, we would recover between one set. We started as a pack, so it was slower and harder to get through. The second and third sets were plenty harder. Arianna came with me, and kicked my butt majority of the sprints. The road went out for a mile. first half was asphalt; the second was dirt/gravel. Coming back, we struggled. It got plenty easier on the asphalt. Arianna struggled towards the end, but we just made our recoveries slower. There were too many sets to count, but it was way fun. We cooled down back to sv nice and easy which rounded to 4.5 miles. I was in charge of core, and made it harder than any of our previous core workouts, but it was fun!

It was almost 90 degrees, butnit was my only chance to run. I brought Ruby without much thought, she's always down to run. We went a mile at 8 minute pace, and she was panting a ton. We ran half a mile back, and I was more worried that she was okay than running more miles. The heat didn't affect me too much, it was nice.

I didn't run until after 12, but it was humid with some light sprinkling. I just wanted to go for an adventure run, so I did. I started up birch. My thighs were a bit sore, so I took it nice and easy. The dirt was perfect. Turned onto the trail that went back on the side of the canyon. I pushed the pace a bit, but didn't get any faster. I then tried to find a trail that went over to the next canyon. While I was looking, I heard a rustle in the tree. At first, I thought it was a hawk, but it was too big to be a hawk as it flew away. It was an owl. I looked up in the tree where it came from, and there was another owl! They were huge! It quickly took off, so I continued searching for the trail. Found it, but the trail was a road less traveled on. Continued up to cedar canyon. I'd only xc skied it, and there were some cool trails going straight up the mountain. Explored some more, then followed the trail back. When I got back to birch, I went up some more past the third gate. Coming back down, I sped up. Super fun run. My pace was around 9 minute miles. It got warmer towards the end, but never too hot.

We were in Monticello and had been driving all afternoon. Got going around 5. I felt the elevation the first, uphill mile, but after that it wasn't too bad. I went to the lake and hopped onto that trail the first possible entrance. Saw plenty of animals. Took the first trail off and went up a road that was covered in snow over the winter. Turned a corner, and it was all uphill. After crossing the 5th cattle guard, I took a break, then finished to 4 miles out. Turned around and flew down the hill. Followed back around the lake where I had come. Dropped my pace way down the last mile  (all downhill). Saw my uncle riding his bike. Almost took a wrong turn to my grandpa's. 8:05 average pace.

Still in Monticello. 9 in the morning. It was 10:00, but not too hot. Went up to the lake. Entered onto the trail the last possible entrance. Went around counterclockwise, which had me at 4.5, so I turned around. It was easier running around clockwise. Followed the road back. My pace wavered right around 8:40 the entire time, but dropped down to 8:29 the final, downhill mile. Way nice getting that many miles in the mmorning.

3.5 in the evening with Ruby. We went up to the lake (1.5ish out) and over the dam and back. On our way back, Ruby had gone off the trail, stepping in cactus. A small piece stuck to her back paw. I picked her up to pull it out getting a few pricks in my finger and a nice yelp from her. She was able to run home after, so Ruby is a trooper. 8:30 average pace, I think.

Bumbed I couldn't run the freedom run 15k, but there was a local 5k in Blanding, so we did that, instead. Warmed up a mile which was the start and finish of the course with Ruby. Didn't know where I was because I hadn't raced since state, and had only done one tempo run. I knew Skye was running, and hoped to stay with her. When we started, she was with a pack of san juan boys and I was a ways behind. 2 guys were way ahead. There was quite a bit of uphill, but it seemed to be where I got closer. The pack spread out, and I picked off a few guys catching skye at 1.5. Stuck with her until 2.5. I hope I wasn't intimidating, but ended up speeding up the last half mile, catching the guy in 3rd. Finishing was painful, and I surprisingly didn't get passed. I was mentally not up to race and struggled at the start. Don't know how, but just pushed through. My foot was only a little achy, but no sharp pains, yay! Talked to skye, and we did a mile cool down together. Glad to fingure out where I am right now. The race was really fun and well organized. Happy to do something this fourth of july.

Garrett was down to run, so I ran a quick mile (7:38) while he got ready. We drove up dry to the wilderness trailhead and started up. He had me lead, and we saw plenty of animals. At one point, we were chasing a bunch of turkeys down the trail. Right after, a cotton tail rabbit was running in front if us. I didn't see it, almost stepping on it. We had a ton of fun on the trail jumping over rocks and logs. It got really overgrown half a mile up, and being in front, I was covered in spider webs. The cliffs up there are super pretty. If Garrett had his climbing gear, he'd be up them. We took a couple walking breaks because Garrett hadn't ran in a while. The trail is uphill, but we didn't get far enough to flat-top steep. We got 1.5 up, and relaxed for a minute. Some bigger animal was up the trail, but neither of us saw it. He had me lead going back down. We sped way up, but I stumbled more. I almost stepped on a water snake which made me jump. As we were going down, there was something moving in the grass. In the corner of my eye, I saw a fat diamond back. I yelled, "Big snake! Big snake! Big snake!" We heard a rattle, and Garrett yelled, "Go, go, go!" Haha, it was an adrenaline rush. Garrett saw more of the snake, and I guess it had a huge rattle. We continued booking it for a while. It was a way fun adventure, and I'm glad Garrett's a bro whose down to run trails. Our average pace was over 10 minute miles, but running took plenty of effort.

When it had started to get dark, I did 3 quick miles with Ruby. They felt really good. Somehow, they stayed at 7:30 pace, but the mile splits were 7:29, 7:43, and 7:16. Had a fun evening after.

For practice, we did sunnyside and met up at mack park after to play games. Everybody was tired, so it was nice! Our first mile was 8:29, and the next 3 miles were in 22:30. Not many people showed up, but we had a good pack up front. To make sure the pack behind us knew where to go, a few of us stopped and went with them. Then, we played partner tag, getting soaked and muddy. We ran back as a team, kind of. I didn't get that mile timed, but it was slow. It was a good, relaxing practice.

In the afternoon, I did 5 miles easy up Smithfield canyon. It wasn't super hot, but still warm. The mile splits were 7:08, 7:47, 7:41, 7:20, 7:50. They vary due to hills, but overall it was under 38 minutes.  The last mile, I focused on keeping pace and never slowing up the hill. It felt good, and somehow kept it under 8 minute miles.

Slept in and took forever to get running. Finally got myself going. 2 miles up the canyon,  I was at a decent pace and thought maybe I'll do a tempo run! 200m in, my achilles popped. Stopped to stretch it, then jogged another mile slow. Turned around and went really easy. My stomach started hurting, so I was glad I turned around early. My body was tired, and I haven't gotten a ton of sleep the last few days, so it felt good to slow down. 8:30 average pace for 6 in the morning.

At 9, I was feeling really good (napping helped), so I ran. Went on downstream upper canal. Hit 2 clouds of gnats within 50 meters of each other. The first didn't seem to end. The second got plenty in my eyes. Went to 6th and came back on hillside, where there were less gnats/bugs. I was averaging a 7:49 pace, but my watch ran outta batteries the last mile. This loop was 3.5 miles. When I got home, Garrett wanted to run, so I went with him once I grabbed my stopwatch. It was dark by now, so we were running in total darkness down hillside. Went to 6th, then looped back around the block on our way back. He was only planning to run 2, but wanted to add extra, so we did 3. We did it in 22 minutes, so 7:20 pace. Lol, it was crazy how much he sped up at the end, I couldn't catch him. It was a fun evening to run, and even saw some fireworks. Didn't plan to go this far today, but it caught me up on mileage.

Everybody was pretty tired, so we did warm up extended, but it wasn't where I thought we were going, haha. Me, Arianna, and Clara just followed the lead pack of boys. We went above the canal, then dropped to go to Mack Park, then went up beauty, half way down beast, down a road, then back on church run. Really random, but short and fun. We were at a 7:45 average pace at 3 miles, but then my watch ran outta batteries. Then, some of us did core while others played soccer. Really chill. I was going to run in the evening, but my body was not physically feeling it at all. Today kinda threw off my mileage, but that's okay. Ended up going on a night hike.

Ran with Amber today, which was way fun! We went onto a trail that hops into birch. Continued up Birch. At 2 miles, neither of our watches were working, but we kept going. We turned around at one of the crossings which was actually just short of 4 miles up. Came back down the canyon back to my house. On our way down (we had sped up) there was a black and yellow spotted snake across the dirt road. It was about 3 feet long. Without much thought, we kept running. It was on my side of the road, so I jumped over it. As I jumped, it coiled up. Lol, I screamed, and we both hauled down the canyon. It was pretty great. Glad we didn't get bit. It was way fun talking to Amber and just going for a chill trail run. Our pace was definitely over 10 minute miles, but it was all on trails.

I was hoping to run more, but my family went boating. As soon as we got home, I had to leave for work, so this week's mileage wasn't where I wanted it to be.

None of the coaches were at practice, although moratorium was last week. We waited almost 10 minutes, then decided to do cedaridge backwards. The whole time Arianna, Clara, and I stuck together which makes me way pumped for this season. We probably were running an 8 minute average pace. We caught a pack of boys the last 1.5 and passed them. The three of us sped up towards the end, which felt really good. At the stop-sign, we turned around, but only got out about 200m before turning back around to sv. Way fun practice.

Really pumped about today. Didn't notice any pain in my foot which was wonderful! Warmed up a mile trying to get my watch to link, but it never did. Grabbed my stopwatch, and then did the good ol' 3 mile tempo on hillside. It was really good. My mile splits werer 6:15, 6:25, 6:19 which added up to 19:00.55. My first mile was faster than anticipated, but it felt comfortable. The second mile, I really focused on keeping my stride, but was 10 seconds slow at the half mile. Coming down the hill, I pushed it more. The last mile was decent. A quarter mile into it, I did slow down a bit, which is where I need to work on pushing it. Coming up the slight hill, my thighs were burning a bit. Really pushed it the last half and quarter mile. Sadly, I didn't break 19, but this was the fastest I'd done all summer. If it hadn't hurt, I would have ran another mile or two. Next time. Cooled down a mile.

In the evening, I ran 3 miles with Ruby at about 8 minute average pace. It had cooled down, but was still a warm summer night. When I got home, I got a text to run the USU course. Drove to it, and the guys were already almost done. Ran the last half mile with them. Then, we ran on campus to the graveyard and walked around for a while, which is totally normal, lol. Ran back getting me to 2.77, but I was too tired to run another quarter mile. It was way fun running that late at night.

At practice we went up dry canoyon. Our goal was to make it to the water tank. That uphill gets to you. It seemed to never end, but my mindset was once we got up, we had all downhill. Arianna and Clara were pushing it, which was awesome. Clara dropped, but kept going. Arianna was struggling, so we slowed down. We went up another .15 from the water tank to get to 2.5 which got us to 5 miles. Because it was all downhill, our pace dropped down to an 8:15. Super fun going up that canyon. Core after was hard and short which was nice.

Around 3, I did a nice 4 mile heat run. While my watch loaded, I did a quarter of a mile to round out from yesterday. Then, I went up birch. Sadly, that canyon doesn't have a ton of shade. I pushed it up trying to keep my pace under 8, but the last mile, it went up to an 8:30. Took a break at the second gate, then came back down. Dropped my pace to an 8:02 average. It's really fun running up birch.

I was way tired from work, so I slept in and didn't start running til 10:30. I just took the course that Amber and I ran last Saturday, but backwards. My pace was pretty great on the dirt road up birch, then I hit the trail. It's pretty uphill but so much fun. Went to the same river crossing. Coming down was really nice. I hit a lot of steep downhills fast which is daring for me, lol. Normally, I don't go downhill so fast, but I was able to keep my momentum pretty well. I took a wrong turn at a fork, but cut through to the main trail when I started going up the mountain, haha. When I passed the second gate on my way down, I turned onto the trail. There wasn't much shade as it got later in the day. Crossed the fields on a little road and made it back. It had gotten pretty hot. Ice-cold cache valley water tasted amazing after today's run. 9:44 average pace due to the hills and trails. I love running up birch, and it has helped me discover how much fun trail running really is.

We did sunnyside at practice. Me, Arianna, and Clara started together, again. We weren't too far behind the lead pack of boys. When we went down the hill, Clara shot ahead catching the lead boys. We started going up the canyon, and I tried to catch them, too. Dropping Arianna and Ryan who was also with us. They turned around at 3 miles up, so I did too.  The pack sped up, and I knew I wouldn't catch them. Knowing that Arianna wasn't too far behind me, I stopped and went with both her and Ryan. We chatted the rest of the way down, which was fun. We slowed way down the last mile, but still averaged a 7:40 pace. Because we turned around earlier, we weren't at 6 miles, so we ran around the parking lot until the mileage rounded to 6.

Early in the morning, I met up with Amber at sv. Unbeknown to her, the track was being resurfaced. We still weren't allowed on, so we warmed up to Mack Park. We did 6 400s at racepace (or whatever pace we could hit them) with a 200 recovery.  It was more of a fun workout. The sprinklers were on on the north end of the park, so we avoided them, messing around with the course. They averaged from 1:30 to 1:42. The faster ones were on the correct part of the course, while the slower ones consisted of more obstacles (including sprinklers, haha). After, we took advantage of the downhill 200 and did 3 200s with a 200 recovery. They were 34, 35, 38. The last one we had to avoid a truck and an old couple crossing the bridge. It was a really fun workout and nice to try something fast. On our way back, we extended our cool down on the lower canal behind sunrise, on the course, and to the tree of life. We got in 6 miles which was way nice.

A little later in the morning, Brayden and I went up Birch. He was in town, and nobody else was, so it was just the two of us. It was way fun. We got past the 3rd gate, and there were a ton of people up there. Sometimes, I never see a person. Today, the canyon was filled. It was way fun crossing the rivers. On our way back, we took a left on the trail that leads to crossing the fields which was fun. We averaged a 9:00 pace for 7 miles, which was good for a trail run.

Not the best day. I felt super good at the start. We did upper canal for the first time all year. The uphill kind of killed me, but I was able to stick with Jackson and Ethan. When we got to the canal trail, we did 3x1:00 with a 2:00 recovery. It was different, and I didn't know what pace, so we went maybe ipace. We got about .18 miles for each set, which is close to a 6 minute mile. The third one, I got really tired. I tried to stay with the guys, but felt a little nauseous, so I stopped. After standing there for a minute, I felt like puking. I've never puked from running, but have been waiting for the day to come. Today wasn't that day. I dry heaved quite a bit, then stood there. After a minute, I began to walk back, but felt a bit dizzy. Sat on a cement thing. Luckily, nobody had stopped to talk. Then, Trevor came along. He began talking to me. At first, I wasn't up for it, but I'm grateful he stayed there. When I was feeling up for it, we began jogging back. Trevor got my mind off of how I physically felt, which was wonderful. We were some of the last people back, averaging an 8:44 pace for 6.62 miles. I was too lazy to round the mileage out. Luckily, Jaci led core. I may have felt sick from not drinking or eating that morning, but I usually don't eat mornings before my run. Hopefully it doesn't happen again, because getting sick while running is rough. Didn't run at all later, but did go on a small hike. My body was a little tired during the bouldering, but it was still fun.

Didn't think today was going to go down the way it did. I was gonna do church run tempo. During my warmup to sv, there was a headwind while going south.  I didn't wanna finish with a headwind, so I decided to do cedaridge. The warmup was 2 miles, so I started next to the track. My first mile was a 6:31, with a headwind. Took a minute break, then started on the second mile. Halfway through the second mile, I was on one of the few turns at 6:40ish pace. There was a little mud in the rain gutter, which I don't think too much about. As I turned, my foot slid from under me. First thing I said (after a grunt) was "crap". I hopped up, hoping it didn't mess up my tempo too much, but stopped. This isn't my first time falling/sliding on a tempo, but gladly this time, there wasn't gravel. (The last time was in January of 2015) I feel like an idiot falling for the second time. Nobody saw, which was wonderful. While I was looking at the damage, a truck drove by. It wasn't nearly as bad as last time, but all of the scrapes are in the exact same spots, just opposite sides of my body, so now I have matching scars, yay! My knee and elbow had dirt embed and burned the most. My hands and hip were very slight. Somehow, my ipod didn't break, but my thumb and pointer finger started bleeding, first, from saving it. I was covered in mud this time, not dust. After thinking about it, I just ran home. Took plenty of stops. The wind made the cuts burn. Passing the track, I ran head-on into a sprinkler, which washed a ton of the mud/dirt off. Ran on the course, passed sunrise, then up golf course hill to avoid the uphill and main roads. Stopped and walked a bunch. Averaged an 8:54 pace for 6.5 miles. Since I'd done this before, cleaning up wasn't too bad, just painful. I'm not in nearly as much shock as last time, so I'll probably be up for an afternoon run.

At practice, we did golf course extended. I started slow to push the other girls, but slowly pulled away catching Clara at the top of the hill. Clara and I extended up the canyon. My whole body was pretty bruised up from yesterday, and my shin and hip both hurt to run. Felt good going a nice and easy 8:06 average pace.

Ran two miles after work with Ruby. It was dark, and I was tired. Not super fast. I should have gone more, but didn't wanna stay out too late.

For practice, we met up green canyon and began at the Bonneville Shoreline trail. Hadn't ever ran it before, so it was nice to switch things up. Clara and I pushed each other, but had fun talking. It had some nice views, but I could understand that it could get boring. We continued past the graffiti towers to 2.5, then turned around. Coach wanted our pack to go down some switchbacks, which were killer coming back up. We came back pretty slow, getting 5.25 at around an 8:10 average pace.

In the hot afternoon, I decided to run. I brought a frozen waterbottle with me, which was completely liquid by the end. It was over 90 degrees outside. Went up the canyon and kept pushing my pace. Went up 3.5, but on my way down, I wasn't feeling too great. Ran through the park, where a wedding was going on. Coming back, I attempted to push the pace. Stopped a bunch to drink from my waterbottle. 8:09 average pace for 7.13 miles.

Went up Birch. It was really nice. Started through the fields, then followed the trail. Made it past the third gate and kept going. Trail running seems to be getting easier, although my pace is slower. Coming down the canyon was fun. 9:13 average pace. Should have ran 4 more miles, but at the same time, I needed to taper for monday.

I was super happy to do a race this summer! It was an early morning, but not too early. Warmed up maybe a half mile, maybe more. Had no idea what time I would hit, I was just hoping for maybe a sub-40. I hadn't ran a ton of tempo, either, this summer. I did wear my flats, though. There were a ton of people I recognized at the start. Talked to quite a few people. The start was fun, there were a lot of people. Turned the corner, and took advantage of the first hill. Of course, 200m in, my left shoe untied. I was next to Sarah Feeny and 2 other girls. I almost wanted to ask outloud if I should stop or keep going to tie my shoe. Just kept running. The four of us pushed each other for the next 3 miles. It felt good. I PRed in my 2 mile up. At about 3.5 miles, a girl came up from behind and passed us. Sarah went with her, and I tried to hold on, but got gapped pretty well. A girl in red was maybe 7 seconds ahead of me, but that gap grew. At mile 4, my legs began to feel the burn. My stride didn't feel as strong the last 2 miles, but I kept a decent pace. On the last turn, where the finish line was in view, I felt a pop on my right foot around the toes. A blister had popped. I was not mentally prepped for the final stretch to be as long as it was. Tried to get on my toes, but the blister burned a bit. Was still able to speed up at the end. After I finished, I looked down at my foot and some blood had soaked through my shoe from the blister. The mile splits were 5:26, 5:43, 5:59, 6:01, 6:13, 8:07 (last 1.2). My first 2 mile was a 11:10 and first 3 mile was a 17:09, so much faster than I'd ever ran either of those distances. It was way fun, though. I'm still pretty shocked about all of those times. Hopefully they can boost my confidence, lol. It was a blast talking to and catching up with a bunch of people after. I was sore, and was stupid enough not to cool down. Had a fun rest of the day with sore calves and thighs. I'm happy with the race, though.

Met up at the wilderness trailhead up Birch. It was Ethan's last chance to run up to flat top, so we did it today. More people were gonna show, but only Storrs, Spencer, Ethan, and I showed up at 6am. My calves and thighs were still really sore from yesterday. We started up nice and easy with Storrs in the front.  It was not completely a run, but I'm counting the whole thing. About half a mile out, my calves were burning, but I just kept going. For the second mile, my left foot went numb, which was weird. It hurt, but I couldn't say 'no' to my only chance to run flat top this year (for my first time ever as a matter of fact). My foot found feeling when we got further up and slowed down. As we went up, it slowly got steeper. By the third mile, we were averaging 20 minute miles. It was still way fun! The trail was really overgrown, but that didn't stop us, lol. The weeds and rocks did pull off my scabs from tripping last week, which didn't feel too good. When the trail ended, I was feeling physically really good, and could've gone a bit faster. The view was amazing! Because Ethan had to get home, soon, we didn't spend too much time at the top. It was 4.5 miles exactly, which was awesome. Came back down really slowly. I suck at going downhill, especially with gravel, so that was an adventure. Spencer and I usually got left in the dust, but Storrs and Ethan were nice enough to stop and wait. It was way fun running up there, and we did it in about 4 hours. At the bottom, we drank some weird juice stuff and said goodbye to Ethan.

The rest of the day, my body was super sore.

I was at girls camp, so I woke up around 6:30 to run. It was really cold, but felt amazing. We were at Cinnamon Creek, so I continued up the road. Found a trail that led to Rosy's Mine, so I ran up to that. My legs were still super sore, so I thought today was gonna be a recovery run, but it wasn't. There was a ton of uphill and downhill. Crossing the rivers on these log bridges was cool. The min was 1.5 up, and there were 2 boyscouts up there. The trail kept going, so I followed it, but it was straight up the mountain! I kept following it, thinking it would level out, but it never did. I turned around becuase I didn't want to climb 2 mountains in 2 days. My average pace was over 14, and I took the downhills way slow. The trail was a bit uneven, but on the flattest part, I tripped on the tiniest rock, bruising my knees and palms. It was just in dirt, and no blood, so that was a plus. Got back after 4.8 miles at 13:40 average pace.

Took a quick break, and one of my leaders, Emily, was gonna run. We went down the road this time. It was fun chatting with her, and it felt good to do something flat to recover. We turned around at a fence, and walked up the hills. We did 2.87 miles (not including the walking) at about 10 minute average pace.

I should have gone further, but I was gonna meet our vistauns to run a few miles at 7. Coming back was harder, because it was uphill. 9:02 average pace. It was really fun. My calves were still a little sore, but they're feeling somewhat better. When I got back, I waited for 15 minutes, and nobody showed up/woke up. I turned my gps back on, but it didn't load. I was super tired, so instead of running more miles, I went back to bed. Had a fun day relaxing, though.

Made the decision to just make this weekend my time off before xc. It is super early, so I may take a mid-season break if I am tired. For practice we did upper canal. When we first started, I could still feel my calves, but the last couple of easy days helped. Started with a big pack of girls, but Arianna and I pulled away when we got off to the canal. Felt really good the whole time. We made it to the end, and began to run back. The girls weren't too far behind, so we turned back around with them and ran the rest of the canal with them. Once we were off of the canal, we took advantage of the downhill. 8:22 average pace for 7.72 miles.

Today at practice, we had a mile time trial for those who didn't have a v dot number. Rachel and I led the warmups, which makes it so weird to be a senior. We did a mile on the course and attempted to explain our 5K course, haha. When we were back on the track, the boys ran their mile first, then the girls. I was really pumped to run on our resurfaced track, but it kinda sucked. It was really hard and not as bouncy. Hopefully, it will be nicer when track rolls around. I was hoping for close to a 5:30, but I wasn't really ready to run a mile that fast. It ended up being a 5:55. My motivation wasn't there, so I had fun with it. After everybody got their numbers (lol, mine was 10 less than what it really is/should be), we did a workout. All at race pace, 500 hard, 400 recovery, 400 hard, 300 recovery, 300 hard, 200 recovery, 200 hard, 100 recovery, 100 hard, 100 recovery, 100 hard. It was really fun becuase we had a solid pack of girls up front. I lost the times recorded, but my race pace splits were about: 1:43, 1:21 (both slow), 59, 38, 20, and 18. The first 100 was funny becuase there were a bunch of people and we were attempting to go around them. We cooled down on the course. It was a fun day of practice. It was around 4.75 miles.

In the evening, I did 8 up the canyon. It felt super good. It was also really hot. On top of that, the air was pretty bad from the fires. As I got further up the canyon, the air got better and cooler. Each mile-marker, I thought "one more." 7:41 average pace. It was a fun long run.

My cousin, Rachel, is training for a marathon, so we planned to run a 13 mile loop together. We were in Monticello and it was 5:45 am when we started. We started up a road, and ended up looking for a road for a while. We then missed a turn and made it to dude ranch, so we turned around. When we found the turn, we were pretty set. It was a really fun run. The trees were really pretty against the gray sky. It rained twice really hard, almost a flash flood. The road became really slick both times. We were super muddy and soaked by the end. Each mile was around 10 minutes, but felt like 3. It was a fun time talking and the run went by super fast. We got to the highway, and ran on in for over 2 miles. We went up a really long hill through devil's canyon (?), then ran back to our cabins. Our average pace was 9:25, which was nice and slow, but felt amazing. This is probably my longest run, ever, and it wasn't too bad.

In the afternoon, we hiked up to an indian ruin, and my legs could feel the run.

I had to do hill repeats, and Rachel, Lynette, and their husbands were down to do hills, too. We warmed up 2 miles looking for a hill, and the best one was up to the big lodge. We did 10 sets. It was .11 miles, and I usually hit it in 40-42 seconds. We all recovered back down together, and started at the bottom. Jon would always sprint past me after the curve and wreck me, but it was good to be pushed. Lynette and Rachel would finish not too far behind, and Paul would turn around as we came back. It was really fun. We cooled down back to the pavillion, then us girls ran 2 more miles to get to 6. It was a fun day.

We ran to the west side of smithfield and did powerlines for practice (Tempo, ipace, all out, recover). It was me, Arianna, and Clara who stuck together the whole time. On the recoveries, I went extra slow. Clara would walk and go the exact same speed, haha. When we got to the gravel, it got harder. Coming back was even worse. It was easier back on the road. None of us were feeling amazing, and the smells of cache valley didn't help. It was a good time. On our cool down back as a team, we learned how to run in a single file line (because we're really good at getting in the way of vehicles). It was a good time.

At practice, we started on tree of life, then did cedarridge extended backwards. It was fun. Clara was at the front of the pack, while Arianna and I started in the back. We had to sprint a bit to catch up. The lower canal never smells good, and today was not an exception. It was a fun run, and we made sure to stay on the right (left) side of the road, lol. We slowed the pace the last mile, but it was a good run. It took us under 40 minutes, so it was under 8 minute average pace.

It was iHop day, so we had to do beast (special request from Rachel). It was a good workout, though. We warmed up a mile to the hill. Storrs broke us up by mile time, so I was stuck with the lead pack of boys and no girls. We did 8 sets. Splits were: 1:05, 1:10, 1:12, 1:12, 1:14, 1:14, 1:16, 1:14. I would always start with the few front boys, get passed, then run alone, which mentally broke me. One of the sets, I stuck right behind Carson (I think), and it felt plenty easier. I remember freshman year, hitting a 1:12 was way fast, so there was some improvement, I guess. I mentally didn't have it today, though. I may have been better if I stuck with the girls, hopefully next time. We ran one more "mediocre" set, but I went 30 seconds slower, lol. Cooled down back nice and easy. 5.5 miles now, so I'll run later. iHop was fun!
