Personal:

When I was young, I ran local fun runs with my family, but nothing more. I watched my dad, mom, and 2 older brothers begin running and decided to try it out. During the spring of 6th grade, I ran 3 miles a couple times a week with my dad and have loved running ever since. I ran local 5ks and even a half marathon. In 7th grade I watched Conner, my older brother, run cross country and decided that I wanted to try it.

High School: Really enjoyed it all so much, grateful for all of the friendships I made while doing it. There were ups and downs, but it was a wonderful experience!

I enjoy running, playing piano, painting, skiing, and hiking. Life is totally worth living. Running my favorite meditation. I ran for Sky View High School. I served a mission in the Adriatic North Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Not yet sure what my plans are with running these next few month, but I am looking forward to an exciting future!

Today I went to Sky View to run with the girls.  We're planning on doing a meet this weekend and we wanted to get a long run in.  For them it was a long run, but for me it seemed more like an easy run.  We went at a really slow pace.  It was the temperatures it's been all week (about 25 degrees), so I wore shorts and a long sleeved shirt.  We had a blast just chatting.  A couple times we stopped because we had no idea what exact course we were doing. We ended up doing 5.94 when we got back to the school so we jogged in circles to get a full 6.  It took us about 53 minutes so a little faster than nine minute pace.  It was a ton of fun running with people again.

It was 25 so you wore shorts! Ha! I'm spoiled in San Diego. I wear tights if it is below 50. :)

Haha, yeah. I get used to the cold this far into the winter and get sick of wearing tights.

I went to Sky View to run with the girls again.  We decided to run 3 tempo miles after a quarter mile warm up.  We stalled a little before we began running.  We were going to go for 6:50 miles because they hadn't done a tempo in a while, and in the cold.  We started out almost sprinting and I was a few feet behind.  Our first mile was 6:39 which was my tempo pace.  We slowed it down.  Riley and I were being a little competative and went ahead of Katelyn and Amber.  When we turned around they caught up with us.  I felt as if I had a ton of energy and was talking a lot. I asked if they wanted to take a quick break at mile 2 because they were falling behind and this was their first tempo outside. We decided to and our mile was 7:14. After a minute and a half recovery we continued. This mile we stuck together. It was 6:18. I guess we didn't need a break.  We began cooling down after that. We ran about 3/4 of a mile.  I was super happy to run a tempo with somebody, it pushed me more and felt good.

I wasn't able to go to Sky View, but I did jog a premeet with Ruby, my dog. She was super excited because I haven't taken her on a "walk" in forever.  We went super slow, but it was a ton of fun. My times were 1) 9:32 and 2) 9:15. Then I did 6 striders.  Because I was wearing tights my form was a little restricted. It was a ton of fun.

Katelyn, Amber, and I jogged to Riley's house to pick her up.  Once we got her we jogged about a mile to the hill beauty because we had to do hills.  We were planning on doing up beauty, down beast, up beast, down beauty atleast 5 or 6 times.  But we ended up doing it only 3.  It was super slushy and there was a sheet of ice on beauty, but it was a good faster workout.   Our recoveries were super slow, but it was okay.  When we first went up beauty, most of the boys that ran cross country were finishing up their workout.  Our splits for going up beauty were 1) 27, 2) 28, 3) 28. Our splits for going up beast were 1) 1.09, 2) 1.12, 3) 1.12.  I wish we could've done it more times, but we had to leave.  Our cool down mile was about twelve minutes.

I ran an easy four that I didn't want to do, but I did anyways.  My times were 1) 8:11, 2) 8:56, 3) 8:55, 4) 9:36.  It was a really slow, but enjoyable easy run.

I was super excited to run today, I don't know why.  I decided to do tempo.  My first mile was 6:37.  My second I didn't feel very great near the middle, but I continued to try to go faster. It was 6:50.  A couple seconds after I crossed the mile point, I felt too sick to move, so I stopped.  I walked back to the mile point which took about a minute.  Then I decided to go half a mile and see how I would feel.  That took me 6:15!  Only half a mile which was super slow.  I sped up because I felt much better and that half mile was 3:00 which was super good for how sick I felt earlier.  Then, I took  a minute and a half break to figure out what I should do because I felt good again.  The next mile I took advantage of the hills and my mile was 6:15.  Then I went another half mile tempo whjch was 3:22.  Then I turned around to do a mile and a half cool down which added up to 16:46.  I felt really good on the way home and I was very happy my times were well on.

So, I was planning on running 8.  Conner wanted to run with me and I didn't want to go hard, so I didn't time.  Our first mile was faster than 7 minutes because it was all downhill and still fast.  The next mile I didn't really feel super good, so we slowed down a ton.  The rest of the run wasn't much better. My stomach hurt a lot like it did yesterday. After 5 I felt so sick, I didn't want to run any more, so I didn't.

I checked the temperature and it was supposedly 30 degrees, but felt around 25.  Because I was doing a tempo run and I didn't want to overheat I wore a long sleeved shirt and shorts.  When I started, there was a light headwind.  Then, I turned onto another street and there wasn't a headwind for about one and a quarter miles.  My first mile was 6:38 which was right on.  The beginning of my second mile was feeling great and my time was right on, but when I turned at the one and a half mile point there was a terrible, cold headwind.  I tried pretty hard, but my mile ended up being 7:06.  I decided to keep going because I didn't want to stop.  My first half of the third mile sucked- 4:20.  I didn't want to move.  When I had another half mile left, I began going all out hoping to get back on pace.  It ended up being 3:11, which I was happy about, even though that mile ended up totaling 7:21.  I took a 2 minute break to catch my breath.  When I stopped my left calf hurt, I realized I hadn't stretched it before running so I did.  Then, I ran another tempo mile.  I began getting my half mile splits because of the horrible headwinds.  The first half was 3:46 and the second was 3:09 totaling 6:58.  I took minute break and ran another mile.  The first half was 3:50, then 3:08 totaling 6:58.  I was super happy because my pace was better than most attempts to run tempo and it was longer.  I did a cool down mile that was about ten minutes.  It was a really good tempo run.

I can't believe you wore shorts in 30 degrees! I ran a tempo this morning - in San Diego - and wore tights, a long sleeve shirt, a wind breaker, and headband to cover my ears. I thought it would by cold (and by cold I mean 50) but it was near 60! So I overheated!

Went running with the girls easy.  We partially did the tree of life so it was on a snow covered trail.  It was a ton of fun. It went by super fast, but we were going pretty slow. I would much rather run with people then alone.

I was that bright person that went skiing two days before a race. I hadn't gone at all this season and I couldn't say no. I was super excited and went super hard skiing, but not so hard I would get injured.  It was a blast! But I got home pretty late and was too sore to go running. I planned to go 6, but that ended up being 2. During my run my legs didn't want to move; they were so sore. I felt as if I were  going 8 minte miles,  but the first was 10 and the second was 13. Yeah, it was worth it though.

I jogged with the girls. We jogged Mack and Back. It was a ton of fun. When we got to Mack Park we played around on the ice for a little while, then we jogged back. We did 5 striders that didn't great to me, but it was still a fun run.

Because I didn't have anything better to do on Valentine's Day I went for a long run. Actually, Conner had to go on a premeet and I was lying on the couch watching tv and he asked me to go with him to prevent him from going too fast. I went two miles which I would say were pretty fast miles. We talked about my race yesterday and running stuff.  Then I went five and a half more.  I didn't feel super good the last two miles, so I cut it short by half a mile.  It was super slow but really fun.  I didn't time or use my watch which took off a ton of pressure to get a certain time.

I went a 4 tempo miles. My first mile I felt amazing, it was pretty easy and onky 2 seconds slow (6:40). My second mile began with a headwind and half way through was right on, but on the way back after I turned around it got really difficult. For some reason I couldn't speed up, so it ended up being 6:57.  My next half mile was really hard. I felt like I was pushig it, but it ended up being a 3:57. This next half mile I was determined to make that mile faster. It was 3:20 which made the mile 7:17. I took a two minute break, then did one more tempo mile. The first half was 3:51 and the second was 3:08, which totalled 6:59 so it was under seven. Then I did a very slow cool down mike which was thirteen minutes. I did eat a Valentines fun dip before and I notices that my body was only running on sugar energy the last two miles.

It was so warm I wore a short sleeve shirt which was one of the best things ever! I ran a tempo. I ran 3 then took a 2 and a half minute break. After that I went a mile and a half, then took a minute break. I next did half a mile, then cooled down a mile.  My splits were 1) 6:23, 2) 6:47, 3) 7:02, 2.5 minute break,, 4) 6:36, 4.5) 3:31, minute break, 5) 3:08

I went to sky view and it was so warm we were able to run on the track! We did a fast workout, but I haven't done any sprinting since before Foot Locker. We warmed up 800. Then we did an 800 at ipace which ended up being too fast (2:55). Then we recovered for a minute and a half. After that, we did 2x400 at ipace wirh a minute recovery (1:26 and 1:27). Next, we did 4x200 at rpace (39, 39, 39, 38) with a 200 recovery in between.  Finally we ran 2 slow easy miles.

It was a ton of fun and I felt super good.  My right calf did hurt a little, but I think it was from my last tempo.  We had fun and oir mikes averaged 7:49 ish. I was super exhausted when I got home because I haven't gone that far since New Years.

We ran about 3 miles which was really fun and easy.  I just kept up with the boys.  Our times felt medium because they weren't hard, but they weren't super easy. It got me a little more excited about track because I wasn't very enthusiastic after yesterday.

Today was the blue and white.  When we got there we were supposed to run the mile soon.  I decided to go for a sub-six mile.  Our warmup was only half a mile, but it felt good.  Then it began to get super rainy which wasn't very good.  During the race there was a horrible head wind on the back stretch of the track.  My first 200 I glanced at my watch and it was a 34 which was way too fast. I stuck with the boys because we mixed the freshman boys and girls.  My time was 6:03 which was okay, but I should have sprinted harder towards the finish.  After that I only did a quarter mile cool down because we were supposed to run the 400 for our coach, but they ended up not having it.  When I got home I did four amazing miles that were so slow and easy but felt so good.  My miles were 1) 10:34 2) 10:29 3) 9:18 4) 10:30.  They were very slow times, but The last two I ran with Ruby who pushed me.  The sunset was really pretty after all the rain.

I was ready to run, but then I had to wait for Conner for an hour to get me the workout, because we didn't have practice today.  I found out it was either tempo today and easy tomorrow or the other way around.  I attempted tempo, but it didn't turn out very amazing.  My first mile was right on, and my next half was really well on, too.  But after that my stomach started to hurt.  I stopped to walk and felt like almost falling over.  I tried to walk/jog home which didn't feel good at all.  My legs felt funny.  I went another half mile, then tried to run again, but I didn't feel good after a minute or so.  I went home and told Conner.  After that, I drank some chocolate milk and felt better.  It could have been that I didn't have any energy (even though I ate lunch like always) or my stomach wasn't very good, but it was okay.  I should have ran more afterwards, but I felt too sick to try.

Because I had such a horrible run yesterday, I decided to try tempo again.  I wanted to get a 6:32 pace, but I wasn't expecting to get the times because it was up the canyon.  My times were 1) 6:11 2) 6:57 (then I took a 30 second break) 3) 6:42 4) 8:08 (Then a minute break) 5) 7:06.  My first mile was all downhill and felt amazing.  The second mile I slowed way down towards the middle which I regret.  Then I tried to hit my time and atleast got a sub-seven.  I wore myself out a little bit trying to hit the time and took a 30 second break.  Then I went down the canyon and my stomach didn't feel amazing.  After that mile I always have to go up some steep hills which I didn't feel good enough to go up.  When I got home I took a minute break and went one more that was okay.  It was super nice outside and I was very excited to run in the heat. I did one more mile to cool down.

After warming up I wasn't really sure what we were doing, so I followed the boys.  I tried to ask them what we were doing, but didn't really figure it out until we went up beauty, then lost the person who knew where we were going.  We guessed he did sunnyside, so we went up the canyon to meet up with him.  I tried to go a little faster to reach tempo pace, but it didn't work very well because I didn't want to ditch the guys with me.  We turned around when we met up with the leader and went back to Sky View.

I wanted to get some sprinting in, so I did 8x 200 @ r pace with a 200 in between at home.  All of them were right on (41) except for the last two where the last one I got cut off by a car (43) and the last one my thigh began burning and I didn't want to injure myself (46).  After that I did a mile cool down I was thinking I should maybe do a 600, but I was so tired.

It was pretty warm, but there was a wind that made it kind of cold.  Since there was a track meet, I just went straight on my run.  I didn't know what to do that was long alone, so I did golf course extended.  Because that was only 5 miles, I added another mile by doing tree of life.  I think it was a little longer, though because I had to run a little extra to switch my runs.  I felt super good because it was around 9 minute pace.  Then I went to the track meet and watched the mile race and hung out.

I had a dentist appointment, so I jogged to and from that which ended up being a little over a mile.  Then, I did 2 more miles.  When I got to the track, I did 2x200 at r pace with a 200 in between.  I didn't know that the 200s were supposed to be part of the 3 miles, but it's okay. We woke up early to get on the bus to BYU even though I wasn't running at all today.  I didn't know if we were supposed to do anything, but I knew we had to do premeet.  Before all the events started we jogged around the track quite a bit.  Throughout the day we jogged, but didn't really get any specific distance, so I think it adds up to 2 miles.  It was a fun day, though.

I was super excited to run today!  Because the 1600 was the first event, we were able to do a warmup on the track and we did about 3/4 a mile including stretches.  The day before I did plenty of visualization and I had checked the heats and times.  I had the perfect strategy figured out and hoped it would flow great.  Conner told me to go all out on the last 800 instead of 600 which I wasn't positive if I would follow that, but I guess I did.

When we finally got called I wasn't fully ready, so I brought all my stuff and spikes into the bullpen place.  I was seeded for second, but our times were all so close.  We did leg swings and our stretches next to the track.  While doing so, I looked over and noticed Vickie was running her last lap and cheered her on because she did amazing!  As we walked over to the starting area I thought about power-stances that my teammates told me about and tried to stand up tall and straight which actually did give me confidences.  When we finally were able to do our striders I was feeling really good.

Now to the race- It all still feels like a dream because I'm so shocked about the time I got.  We started and I got boxed in a little, which didn't effect me, it made me want to pass them all.  Of course our 200 was fast and on the back stretch I caught the two leading girls.  I stuck with them the second lap.  I was going WAY fast though because I looked up at the screen and remember thinking they were fast, but I felt good!  When we hit the 800 I just went.  That lap felt amazing- a little too amazing.  I was hoping the girl behind me didn't catch me.  The last 400 I was ready to give up, but I felt like giving up wouldn't make the race worth it- I didn't know if I'd be able to keep the pace.  The gun scared me, too.  The last lap I tried sprinting and it was hard.  The final 200 I felt as if I didn't have enough in me, but I just kept going.  I tried to sprint and I could hear a lot of yelling and cheering which I didn't know if it was for me or the girls behind me.  I wish I could have gone faster, but when I finished I knew I put in my all because I was DEAD.  I was so happy, though! Normally after a good race I have a runner's high, but I was so tired my body couldn't get very excited.

All the girls in my heat did amazing, too.  Afterwards, I grabbed my stuff and went on a cool down with Katelyn.  We both had a fun chat and then hung out all day at the track.

We did 3/4 mile warmup, then Coach had us do a 200@r pace, 600@tempo, 300 all out with no break in between.  After that we did a full recovery, then did it again.  My first one was 200) 38 (fast) 600) 2:18 (fast) 300) 1:01.  Everything felt pretty good until the 300s which really sucked.  I mostly couldn't go all out.  After 5 minutes of recovery and getting a drink, I did the next one 200) 39 (fast) 600) 2:21 (barely fast) 300) 1:03.  My throat kind of hurt like I counldn't breathe, but I wasn't sick, it was probably just runner's cough.  I then went on a mile cool down which was nice and easy.

Today was fast and fun.  I did a mile warmup, then a 600 at i pace.  While I was doing the 600, somebody said my name and I turned to see what they wanted, but I couldn't understand them, so I kept going.  That took a couple seconds, but I was right on getting 2:15.  Then I did a 600 recovery.  Next, I did 2x200 r pace.  They were both 38 which is pretty fast, but they did feel really good and easier.  Between and after those I did a 200 recovery.  It was over fast and I did a mile cool down.

I did 12 miles up Smithfield canyon with my dad.  When we started out I told him we should go slow and not hit a six minute mile.  Instead it ended up being around seven minutes, so I was happy.  I just didn't want to start out fast and later die.  It felt really good going up around an 8-8:30 pace.  We were trying for 8 minute miles and we were pretty close.  After 5 miles, I started to really struggle because I've rarely gone that far up.  When we got to the top I was happy.  After a drink out of the top we began going down.  It felt SOOO good!  I think our first three miles were under 21 minutes.  We were hauling.  Then, my legs caught up to me.  When we were down I was just looking forward to going home.  It was a ton of fun and I love talking with my dad as we run.  We averaged a 7:50 mile.

Today we did upper canal at practice, but I had to leave early!  It was really fun and slow, but after 2 miles I had to turn around. Later, I found out that they had gone 8 miles!  I was still happy I was able to run with everybody because it was really fun!

I couldn't find a time to run until later in the evening while the sun was setting.  Because I went on a hike I was pretty tired, so I went 3 tempo (instead of 4 or 5 which I was supposed to do).  My first mile felt really good, but I was a little hungry.  It was still really good: 6:45.  My next mile I almost gave up because my stomach began hurting (like it did a couple weeks ago) and I slowed down.  When I turned around I though: 'If I go the right pace I'll hit a 7 minute mile!' but I didn't... it was 7:11.  The next mile was also difficult because I didn't want to try, but it was still 7:07.  It was under 21 minutes, though! :)  (20:54)  I then took Ruby for an eventful cool down where five dogs came after her.  She's afraid of other dogs so she either yelps, curls up, or runs away.  All three occure, but I knew all the dogs and they're nice! :b  But it was still a good cool down.  I was also happy to get atleast some tempo in this week.

So, I got to practice pretty late and nobody was there.  I had my dad drive me around where the usual courses were and after a quarter mile we found them!  I was so happy that I didn't have to run alone today.  We did Sunnyside.  I tried to catch up to some of the varsity girls, but I sort of gave up and chatted with people as I passed them.  I caught up to Amber and she stuck with me.  We had a fun time, then caught up to Katelyn and Rilee.  We slowed down a bit our last mile, and never caught up to the boys and Megan and Lauren, but it was a ton of fun.

Ragnar:  I don't want to put it as a race because it wasn't exactly a race, it was more of a party.
I was the third runner in my van.

my 1st leg) I was super excited and pumped because the excitement around us was so much!  My first leg was 6.7 miles and I thought it was my 7.7 mile leg, so on my watch I planned on getting a sub 53:30 (for 7.7 at about 6:30 pace).  When I started I sprinted, but then finally remembered I had more than five miles to go.  I passed a bunch of people which felt really good. It was overcast and we were hoping the rain wouldn't catch us.  It did rain a little, but it was so humid it felt good. Towards the end there was almost nobody and I passed a guy who tried to keep up with me.  When we got close to the end we sprinted and I went really far ahead.  I noticed I got barely under 50 minutes and I thought I had hauled! But then I found out it was a mile shorter.  I was still happy though, it felt really great!

my 2nd leg) This one was a 4.9 mile leg.  I was mentally ready and hoping it would be very easy.  But, then we found out the time was 7:20ish and I had to have a vest by 8:00pm.  I decided I'd have to go quick (like a sub-7 mile which would be 35 minutes total.) The sun was beginning to set and it was cooling down.  When I started I sprinted for fun.  I was racing the clock.  After a mile, though, I had to go to the bathroom!  I kept going and slowly caught some people.  I had no idea what my speed was, but I didn't feel very fast.  Only one guy passed me and I kept with him for a little while.  He seemed like a really good runner.  Finally, I dropped off because I really wasn't feeling good.  When I hit the final mile marker I sped up knowing I wanted to beat the clock. At the end I sprinted again which is really fun when there are a lot of people around.  It took me a little more than 40 minutes.  I was happy to be done with that one.

Ragnar (continued):

My 3rd leg) It was early in the morning and I barely remember what was going on.  I'm pretty sure, though that I started around 5:00am.  The sun was barely shining.  It was the only leg I had to wear a night-vest and headlamp.  When I started there was nobody in front of me for about a quarter mile.  Slowly I caught up to them when I went down a super steep hill.  Then, we climbed up this canyon that was really pretty.  All the runners were way far apart and it took about a mile to pass them.  When the sun was rising I looked back to see it because I was running away from it.  It was so PRETTY! The bottom of the clouds were hot pink and the top was a light purple.  I wish I had been running towards it, but instead I had to climb a long hill.  When we got to the top there was a gradual downhill and I sped up.  The first 6.7 miles took me about 55 minutes.  The last mile took me 7:56 minutes and I felt like I was hauling.  I was happy to be done when I finished.

Ragnar was a blast and a very fun experience (other than the lack of sleep).  I would definitely recommend it.

It was the practice after Ragnar weekend and I was still tired.  Coach had us do tree of life.  I stuck with Megan and we turned left at the end of the canal.  Everybody else turned right (which makes it a 2.5 mile loop).  We kept going.  I was feeling really good as we were running until we got to the last mile.  Then, I was struggling.  I'm pretty sure we were speeding up, then gradually slowing down, so it felt like we going so fast when we really weren't.  We sort of sprinted at the end, but it was a slow sprint.  It took us about 40 minutes (8 minute miles).

I was too lazy to actually run in the morning, so I went in the middle of the afternoon when it is blistering hot.  I felt amazing my first mile, actually too amazing. 1) 6:05 which is way too fast. My second mile I didn't feel the heat until halfway where I pretty much died.  I kept going though and it was actually pretty decent. 2) 7:23  I took a minute and a half break because I went over to the side a dry-heaved a bit (let me tell you, it was hot!).  Then, I kept going.  I tried for a sub-seven which ended up being a 7:05.  I was so tired and thirsty that I went to the graveyard and took a drink from the pump thing (which I don't know if the water was clean, but I was SO thirsty).  That break was about a minute and a half.  Then I cooled down home because I was too tired (which I regret) to keep going.  That mile was over 11 minutes.  The first three miles (including the break) took 22:04 minutes which was actually okay in the heat.  I was happy to be done, but it was one of those runs that I regretted cutting short.

We did golf-course.  Conner talked to me about pushing the pace at practice because that's what makes you get better, and last year the pace was always pushed, so I did. I tried pushing it up the hill.  Karlee, Lauren, and I stuck together along 10th east.  When we hit the trail, we slowed down a bit and a lot of the girls caught back up.  It was a ton of fun and felt good to actually go a little faster on an easy day.

I kinda-sorta-not really tapered for the Freedom Run because I had to get 6 miles in.  I wanted to get over with it, though, so I tried to keep them under an 8 minute pace.   I finished a little before 48 minutes.  On my last mile, though my knee popped really weird and hurt the last quarter mile (it's okay). It was fun and I was really pumped for the Freedom Run.

I woke up earlier than I should have, but I did get time to eat half of a bagel which was really good.  Karlee and I warmed up half a mile.  I was really excited, and not exactly in that race mode which was really wierd, though.  I did have a goal which was sub-7 average. When everybody wandered towards the starting line, I quickly did some leg swings and we walked up there.  When we started I didn't sprint as fast as I could, but I think that was a good thing.  Here are my mile splits: 1) 7:04, 2) 6:40, 3) 6:54, 4) 6:45, 5) 6:43, 6) 6:50, 7) 7:00, 8) 7:14, 9) 6:57, 9.3) 2:00.  My first mile I just stuck with Karlee.  There was a group of high-school girls near us and I think they were from Mountain Crest.  I felt amazing.   I was actually talking the first mile, too.  When we got to the first mile mark, I actually sped up.  I could see Megan and Holly Haguewood and was hoping that I could catch up to them.  Slowly, I kept passing people.  I felt amazing the first three and had caught up to Megan.  I talked to her for a minute, then kept going.  I found this set way to keep my pace by knowing I'd be around 3:30 minutes at the marathon marks and around 6:00 minutes at the half marathon marks.  That kept my pace pretty even until mile 7 where you go up that steep hill.  I started up it a little too fast, but nobody passed me going up it.  When I got to the top I wanted to give up, but I didn't.  I could still see Holly, but I just didn't want to speed up.  It felt too hard.  I kept checking my watch and doing the math to figure out the slowest miles I could hit and still get a sub-7.  I kept going, but wasn't able to go much faster.  The last mile, I just wanted to be done.  When I hit the 9 mile mark, though, I knew someone was behind me so right when I clicked my watch, I turned to see who is was and sprinted away.  My finish felt fast, but I didn't feel like I was moving fast.  I was happy to be done, though. My time really shocked me.  It was a nine minute PR from last year.  I wonder if the time was off, because my watch or the clock said 1:04, but I got a 1:03.  It was a great race to be sore afterwards.

For practice we went up Smithfield Canyon for 35 minutes.  I felt like we were going at a nice pace at first, but we kept slowing down.  Around 2 miles I kind of sped up and went ahead of the pack to push the pace, but only Lauren followed.  We went up to the nine mile mark from my house which was only probably 8.5 miles or more from SV.  We went at a slower pace down, but it felt nice and easy.  It was about 8:30 minute miles.  When we got back we did a bunch of striders, so I added those into my miles making them total 9.  It was really fun.

I didn't really want to go fast, but I did want to get some tempo in, so I tried to get 5 miles at 7 minute average.  It didn't work out as I had planned. My first 4 miles times were: 1) 7:01 2) 7:05 3) 7:16 4) 7:04.  I really wanted to give up, but for some reason I didn't stop. The fourth mile was all downhill, so I'd have to go uphill to get back and I thought "Why not try going uphill?" That wasn't my favorite idea.  The hill wasn't super fast (about .3 miles in 2:44). When I got to the top I took a 45 second break because I was dying.  The last .7 was around 5:03 which made that mile 7:47.  Tge total time (including the break) was 37 minutes which is decent.  My cool down mile was barely under 10 minutes because I didn't want to go very far, but it was a good run.  I hopefully can get 5 miles under 7 minutes for tempo one day.

BEAST!!! Yeah, that's what we did at practice.  We had a mile warm up.  The hill is about 300 meters and not a fun one.  My times were: 1) 1:09 (fast!) 2) 1:16 3) 1:17 4) 1:20 5) 1:19 6) 1:22 (slow!)  7) 1:17 8) 1:17.  Our recoveries went from 2 and a half minutes to almost 4.  The two that were with me the entire time were Katelyn and Lauren.  Our first one we did with all the fast people (boys).  Then, we actually went our own pace.  After the fourth or fifth we went in some sprinklers which felt amazing.  I forgot until half way to start out slow and speed up which is why I died every time.  Us and MaraLee were the only girls to do 8 total and we finished last, but that's okay! :) We went back to SV super slow because we were so dead.  It was worth it and I hope I can do it again this summer because hills suck. When we got back to SV we did some striders (which sucked) and stretched (which felt good).

Best tempo run this summer! I felt really good this morning, but I knew I had to do 9 miles.  I decided I'd do 3 tempo and see how I'd feel.  1) 6:37 2) 6:37 3) 6:39 which added up to 19:55.  The weird thing was that I kept myself going.  I knew I could do it and my miles were 5 seconds slower than they needed to be.  After a 5 minute break I did 2 more fast miles (trying to get 7 minutes)  4) 7:00 5) 7:12  For a cool down I did an 11 minute mile becaus I was exhausted!  Then I did 3 easy miles with Ruby (my dog) 7) 9:06 8) 9:27 9) 9:38.  I was tired, but happy to get my miles in and to get sub-20.

Then, we hit the trail and I tried to keep up with Kyler who went out on a full sprint.  I was a little confused, so I slowed down.  Down the canyon Megan started to speed up so I caught up with her.  Our last mile was really fast and we ended up doing it under 40 minutes. Afterwards Coach talked to us about camp.  There was a moment where I may have blacked out and almost puked, but I think I was  discrete about it and only told a few people.

I had girls camp and I had to be there at 8, so I woke up at 5:00am to get my run in with my dad.  We went 12 up the canyon and I was really tired from last night, so we were going up at 9 minute miles.  When we got to the top we stopped shortly, then kept going.  The first mile down the canyon my heel kept popping!  It hurt really bad and I tried to loosen it up while running which didn't work.  At the mile mark we stopped and I stretched it out.  I think it was because I did too many miles too fast.  The next 5 were perfectly fine and I sped up a ton because going downhill.  We passed Mac Park and I saw the XC team doing 400 repeats.  It was a really good run that helped me get some more miles in.  Our average pace was 8:36 which is good.

I was in Moab at Girl's Camp and one of my leaders, Becca Louviere, ran with me.  She was so awesome to do that, because I didn't want to and couldn't go alone.  At 6:00 am we went up the canyon we were camping at for 18 minutes to estimate it would take us 2 miles to run.  It was so beautiful.  There was a trail for a while, then we had to get on the road.  We found a biking trail called the enchilada or something like that and went up it a little ways.  Once we turned around it felt better because we had an idea of where to go.  The sun came up as we ran back which was really pretty.  We had a blast chatting the entire way about running and biking (because she's big into biking).

In the morning Becca and I ran again.  We thought there was a trail, but we couldn't find it.  That took us maybe 3/4 of a mile.  Then we went up the road for 15 minutes.  Halfway through, her hamstring was hurting (which is why she doesn't run so much) so I went ahead.  I went up a small hill and then turned around at 15 minutes.  When I met up with her she ran with me and we talked quite a bit which is really fun.  Apparently our campground was where the Moab 1/2 starts, but I couldn't find any mile markers. I think I went around 4. I was really glad Becca could run with me and she was saying that she normally couldn't go so many days, but luckily she could! :)

That night when we got home I threw on my shoes and ran with my dad as he road the bike.  It was getting dark, but I needed 4 more miles.  My times were 1) 8:12 2) 8:24 3) 9:19 4) 9:09. I was SO happy to get sub-20. I then went another mile trying to get under seven.  It ended up being 7:15.  I took another break to get my dog and ran an 8:30 cool down mile with Ruby.  It was a ton of fun and I was SO happy!

We did beauty today.  After warming up Coach talked to us about hills.  I really didn't want to run it, but I knew it would hopefully get me faster.  Beauty is about 150 meters and realluy steep, but fast. He told us to do it 10-12 times, and under 40 seconds.  My times were 1) 34, 2) 36, 3) 36, 4) 38, 5) 38, 6) 38, 7) 39, 8) 38, 9) 39, 10) 38, 11) 38, 12) I have no idea because my watch didn't start.  It took me 33 minutes to do the entire thing.  I was the only girl to do 12, and I wanted to throw up at the end.  I may not have been the fastest (because I can't sprint or do hills), but I figured out how to turn over well and I could also keep myself going all the way.  It was hard.  We then cooled down a mile back to sv.  It was really fun and I was happy to be done.

My family was in Lake Powell this week and I thought "Why not try to hit 45 miles this week?" Bad idea.  It's really hard to run without any trail whatsoever.  I wanted to run around this bend thing near the water, which ended up being a mile both ways.  It took me 14 minutes to run the first mile.  I was dying.  It took me another 16 minutes to run the second mile.  It felt as if I had run a 10k.  I was too lazy to keep going.

Still at Lake Powell: My dad and I ran together.  We were following no trail on sand.  I was struggling so much.  I couldn't keep up with him because I was stressed about how difficult it was to run on the sand.  After 2 miles I broke down because I was worried I'd be burned out due to it being so hard.  My dad wanted me to keep going and we found a little area that was flat.  He told me we should try some sprints: which was the best idea EVER! Instead I did striders.  I think we did six which boosted my confidence SO much.  I felt happier and knew I could still go fast. We decided to follow this cool wash, which led to a horse trail.  I told my dad we should do it tomorrow and we went back.  It was fun when we discovered that area to do striders.

At Lake Powell: we went later in the morning (around 10) up that horse trail/wash.  I thought we could go up 45 minutes, then come back down.  We continued following the horse trail.  It was a beautiful run, but we were going super slow.  It didn't really matter because my breathing was still really deep which meant I was working hard.  We went up for over 30 minutes, and my dad had forgotten to turn on his Garmin!  It didn't really matter, though, because I felt good.  We turned around after we got to a really pretty canyon.  We went back to the area to do striders and did 4 shorter ones.  Then, we jogged/walked back to the houseboat.  It was really fun and we estimated the distance was about 6 miles (maybe more).

At Lake Powell: I was taking the rest of the week off, but I wanted to get a little run in in the evening as the sun set because my legs were twitching.  My mom went on a hike while I jogged to the strider area and did 8.  On the fifth one I thought I saw an animal (like a big cat) on the hill, and stopped halfway to check; it was just a rock.  When I was done, I jogged back to my mom.  At one point I felt like sprinting on the rock because it had gotten easier to run on and I wanted to try it.  When I got to my mom we walked back and picked up some pretty rocks and talked which was fun.

We jogged to central park and did some 1000s @ ipace, but the course was altered making it 850-900meters.  In between we did a little loop that was only supposed to take 3 minutes, but took us more.  Most of them I started slow, but finished in the lead.  On the last one I could hear Amber coming from behind sprinting which made me sprint faster, which helped a ton.  Lauren and Megan weren't there, though, and they would've kicked my but. Our times were 1) 3:15, 2) 3:25, 3) 3:23.  Then we cooled down back to sv which was about a mile. It was a ton of fun .

I had to get somewhere early that morning, but wanted to still get some running in.  I did 3 miles tempo.  It was okay.  1) 6:53, 2) 7:01, 3) 6:59.  I thought I'd be able to hit the times, but after the 2nd mile I just went for sub-7.  Afterwards I did a mile cool down.  It was worth getting in because I was way too tired that afternoon to go running anymore.

We warmed up a mile, then did 6x1000 @ tempo pace with a minute recovery.  We were shooting for about 4:10, but I felt really good, so I wanted to go faster.  On the last 200 I would speed up to try to hit faster times and get a good sprint in.  Our tiems were 1) 4:02, 2) 4:02, 3) 4:05, 4) 4:04, 5) 4:07, (3 minute recovery) 6) 3:59.  I felt really good after the 5th, and wanted to do another.  So I convinced the others that we should take a longer recovery, then go all out.  It was the best one, too.  We recovered a mile which felt really good.

We warmed up to one of the hills and ended up doing beast, beauty, and lion's + 1/2 of golf course hills.  I really didn't feel good that day, which didn't help.  I wasn't hitting the hills super well, and after each one I wanted to throw up.  The loop was 1.2 miles, and we did it 3 times + beast an extra time.  I mentally knew I could go faster, but physically I didn't feel it.   I hope it helped me get faster.  I realized that the throbbing in the front of my head I would get when I did hills was light-headedness.  I didn't really think it would be that, but it was. We cooled down back to sv a mile.

When I got home I did 4 miles, easy.  I wasn't feeling good at all, but because I didn't run yesterday, I needed to get in some more miles. My times were: 1) 8:26, 2) 8:59, 3) 9:58, 4) 8:26.

That evening I thought I should get another quick run in.  I felt much better than this morning: 1) 8:10, 2) 8:08, 3) 8:02.

I met up with Vickie and we ran golf course.  It was a ton of fun.  Going up the first hill was difficult, though, because I was so exhausted from yesterday.  We had a blast just chatting about everything.  When we got into Smithfield we extended by going up an extra mile.  I was happy she got me to run, because I didn't want to after this long week.

We warmed up a mile to Mack Park.  I knew what we were doing, and really didn't want to do them. 6x1000 @ ipace w/ 3:00 recovery.  We were supposed to hit 3:44 according to our v-dot, but our times were all way slow.  1) 3:55, 2) 3:54, 3) 3:57, 4) 3:59, 5) 4:01, 6) 3:58.  For our recovery we found a 200 course to follow, so we could finish on a downhill.  I was happy with how well I felt, but I was mad that we weren't hitting v-dot times.  It could be from the grass and hills we were hitting instead of the flat track.  We cooled down a mile back to sv which felt good.  I was happy to be done with that one.

I wanted to go tempo, even though I went hard yesterday, which was a bad idea.  My first mile was 6:42.   It didn't get any better.  2) 7:35, 3) 7:31, 4) 8:32 (hard uphill).  I mentally wanted to go fast, but physically I thinkg I was just tired.  I then cooled down a mile with Ruby.  It was fun, but hard.

At practice we warmed up about half a mile, then did 3 miles tempo.  We did church run which is easier than some of the others.  We planned to hit maybe 6:40s.  I wanted to go faster, to see how fast I might go with people, but that turned out to be a good goal.  The first half was easier and felt good.  Coach came to pace us the last half which helped a TON at the end.  When we turned around it got a little more difficult because you could see ohw much uphill there was to do.  I was also tired from the last 2 hard days.  When we were going downhill I hoped it would've gotten easier, but it didn't.  At the end, I sort of sprinted, but it wasn't super fast.  The times we got were 1) 6:37, 2) 6:38, 3) 6:27.  That added up to 19:52.  I was super tired afterwards.  I tried jogging to cool down, but it was really difficult.  I cooled down maybe half a mile.  Then we went to Ihop which was a ton of fun, but I was really tired.

In the evening I went 5 easy miles.  I thought it was going to rain, but it didn't.  It was just really muggy.  It ended up taking me 44 minutes because I was so tired.

Premeet today, I ran 4 slow miles.  The first 3 were 8:30 pace and the 4th was 9:30.  When I was done I did 4 strieders.  I was hurting from some hip exercises we did yesterday, so it felt good to go easy.

Today was blue and white.  I got there and wanted to be in "race mode," but I really wasn't.  I was nervous because I thought, what if I don't make it onto varsity?  We only warmed up 1/4 of  a mile because none of us wanted to get going.  I didn't know it was girls and boys together until we lined up.

Our start was good, about a minute and a half quarter mile.  I did start out slow, but caught up to Megan and Lauren while we were still on the track. We just stuck together.  After the second time on the canal, I didn't want to keep going.  Lauren and I just stayed together.  When we had about 800 left I asked her if we should sprint.  She didn't want to.  We mostly coasted in until the last 200 when I said, "Let's get under 21:00."  She sprinted ahead and beat me by 3 or 4 seconds.  My time was 21:01.  It felt good and I was happy to be done.

Afterwards we didn't really cool down, maybe a quarter of a mile.  I was just happy to be done.  I didn't actually feel like I had ran a race, like I wasn't very tired.  That was really nice.  I knew I could've gone much faster, but didn't.

Today was not a fun work out.  We warmed up a mile while Coach showed us where the coarse was.  It was all pretty much uphill.  We were supposed to do alternating 1200s and 800s 4x at ipace with three minutes in between.  We only ended up doing that 3x and some of our recoveries were 4-5 minutes which usually ended up being a 400.  Our times were: 1200) 4:53, 800) 3:25, 1200) 5:10, 800) 3:27, 1200) 5:11, 800) 3:31.  We were pretty ded the entire time, and our times were slow.  After a full recovery we did 4x200 all out w/ 200 recovery.  My times were 1) 29, 2) 38, 3) 39-40 (my watch didn't start.), 4) 38.  They felt really good.  Then we did a mile cool down.  I wanted to die during, but afterwards I felt really good.

So, I was really exhausted from yesterday.  I ended up doing 8 easy and slow miles.  They felt really good.  My first 5 took me about 44 minutes.  My last three I did with Ruby.  They wre about 27 minutes.

Because Highland is tomorrow, we had a premeet.  The sophmore girls met after school and did Mack and Back.  When we got to Mack Park we did 6 striders.  They feel good without a ton of people because you don't get competative and I feel like I can focus more on form than anything.  It was really hot, but felt good to go easy.

We had been driving all day, and Conner and I hadn't gotten the chance to run.  It was late at night and we had a out and back we could do to get something in.  The first mile felt really good, and so did the second.  We were on a dirt road, though, and it was pretty dark.  When I turned around Conner came back which pushed me a ton.  We ran together for most of the rest of the way.  I had to get 1.5 miles in, but didn't feel good.  He offered to go that last bit with me.  It was really nice that he did that because it helped me get my miles in.

Because we didn't run with the team and went long yesterday, Conner and I had to do 400 repeats @ rpace.  It was in the afternoon and we were tired from a long day.  I warmed up a mile on Monticello's track.  It wasn't a very good track, but it worked.  I wasn't feeling good during the warm up. My goal was to hit 1:24, even though I was supposed to hit 1:20s.   In between there was a nice 400 recovery.  My times were: 1) 1:26, 2) 1:26, 3) 1:28, 4) 1:31, 5) 1:34, 6) 1:29, 7) 1:28, 8) 1:20.  My first two were good, I was a little shocked that I couldn't hit the times.  At the end of each one I'd be sprinting the last 100 to hit the times, but wouldn't hit them.  After the fifth one I used the restroom, which felt better.  Right before the 8th one Conner offered to pace me and he wanted me to hit 1:20.  I didn't think I'd be able to do it.  I secretly planned on stopping and the 200 if I didn't feel good.  When I started I actually felt okay.  The 200 mark I kept going and the last 100 I wanted to give up, but gave it my all.  And I hit it! I was so happy Conner was kind enough to pace me.  After a mile cool down I was SO tired, but glad I finished the workout.

That evening after dinner Conner, my dad, and I went on a short run.  It was really fun and felt super nice compared to earlier today.

This run was just a bad experience.  My dad showed us a nine mile loop for me and Conner.  I felt great the first mile.  After the first mile, though, I felt sick.  I ended up feeling so sick I sat down on the side of the road, and went back when I felt better.

Conner and I did the Russian Intervals that we were supposed to do yesterday.  We were in Carbon County, so we just jogged 3/4 of a mile to the track (which is VERY nice).  We warmed up another lap to get in a full mile.  The intervals included 3x300 @ rpace with 30 seconds recovery in 100m.  My first one was: 1) 1:00, (29) 2) 1:03, (29) 3) 11:03.  Our recovery was 800m which took us 10 and a half minutes.  My second one was: 1) :01, (29) 2) 1:04, (33) 3) 1:02.  Our next 800 recovery was 10:11.  The third one was: 1) 1:02, (31) 2) 1:05 (31) 3) 1:04.  Our 800 took about 6:30 minutes.  I was pretty dead.  Afterwards, we jogged back 3/4 of a mile.

Because we missed practice yesterday, Conner and I had the opportunity to do yesterday's workout!  It was 6-8x1000 @ tempo w/ 1 minute recovery.  I was still feeling a little out of it.  Conner showed me the coarse which was our mile warmup.  My times were so bad.  It was hot and nobody was running with me which made the workout suck.  My times were: 1) 4:09, 2) 4:12, 3) 4:32, 4) 4:23, 5) 4:39, 6) 4:15. I was supposed to be hitting 4:05, but I wasn't feeling good.  My last one was all out and still 10 seconds slow.  I was glad to be done.

I wanted to get more miles in and was planning on doing a 3-4  mile premeet.  We ended up doing 5 at practice, so I was set.  During our run we went super easy because of tomorrow.  I enjoy running early morning because it wakes me up.  We ran golf course.  There were a few times where I sped up because I felt good, but I should have stayed a little bit easier.  So, after we came out of  Birch Canyon into Smithfield Canyon, there was a skunk on the road.  It didn't smell too bad until we were right next to it.  The smell went into our throats.  Most of us were gagging.  The rest of the day everything smelled like skunk, but nobody said we smelled bad.  It was a really memorable run.

I was so dead in the morning that I didn't end up running until the evening.  My legs were so dead I didn't want to go very fast.  Most of the miles were a little faster than 10 minutes.  After my fourth mile, Conner came up to me and ran that mile with me.  That was probably my fastest.  I took a quick break and did 2 more miles.  I should have gone 8, but it was too late and I was tired.
